try using the standalone client if you still have it.

been awhile. about a year on steam now. it's more than. likely a recent one. but I don't know because I recently just tried to get it on steam to test it out.
If you don't have the standalone client. I do believe there's a way. not too sure it'll work.
if you search on how to transfer standalone MWO client to steam, they'll show some steps. I'm guessing maybe do the vice-versa of that, but first get the installer, go through everything, but before you begin to patch, maybe make a folder called Piranha Games in your Program Files(x86) (?) and then transfer the MWO files from the steam common apps and into the piranha games folder. just a guess, I'm not too sure honestly. but something to try in your spare time.

PSA: The Steam version of the game contains the standalone client. You just have to manually create a shortcut to it.
Open up your C drive and navigate to:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\MWOClient.exe"
(or Bin64 if you have a 64 bit version of Windows)
..and then make a shortcut to that MWOClient.exe file.
BAM! Now you have the best of both worlds. You have Steam to keep your game automatically updated and you have the standalone client to play with less background processes/RAM eaten up.
You're welcome.

for me as of this patch I try loading MWO via steam and I cannot apply decals. it could've been because I transferred the standalone client into steam and the. let it install, and could've caused some small error (I use "unique sounds" for the game, that might've been it.).

False. I use steam client and decals with no issues.

I never had a problem with decals on the steam version but doing this workaround drastically increased my in game performance, so thank you very much for sharing this
