So I bought myself some MC recently in one of the sales and have been trying to use the decals. In all cases I cannot apply any of them. I've tried most every class of decal on every weight class, mechs with patterns, mechs without, mechs painted, mechs unpainted, hero mechs, champions, and Founder's. No matter what decal I use, when I select it I see a flashing yellow triangle next to the decal button. The decal is visible on the mech and not the black box so it should be placeable or you would hope. The blue pencil icon does nothing as well. Double clicking does nothing.

I've found that using the steam client MWO prevents you from applying decals. (it could be because I use some "unique sounds" to "enhance" my experience.)

try using the standalone client if you still have it.

I used to not use Steam but since I bought a new machine last year I've been trying to keep everything together on one platform and running a standalone client on top of Steam seemed redundant. If this is the case, you would assume they could come up with some kind of bug fix, I mean how long have they been on Steam anyways? It's been a long time.

been awhile. about a year on steam now. it's more than. likely a recent one. but I don't know because I recently just tried to get it on steam to test it out.

If you don't have the standalone client. I do believe there's a way. not too sure it'll work.

if you search on how to transfer standalone MWO client to steam, they'll show some steps. I'm guessing maybe do the vice-versa of that, but first get the installer, go through everything, but before you begin to patch, maybe make a folder called Piranha Games in your Program Files(x86) (?) and then transfer the MWO files from the steam common apps and into the piranha games folder. just a guess, I'm not too sure honestly. but something to try in your spare time.

Technically it shouldn't matter considering that both launchers boot up to the same client. Having both seems a little redundant IMO.

PSA: The Steam version of the game contains the standalone client. You just have to manually create a shortcut to it.

Open up your C drive and navigate to:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\MWOClient.exe"

(or Bin64 if you have a 64 bit version of Windows)

..and then make a shortcut to that MWOClient.exe file.

BAM! Now you have the best of both worlds. You have Steam to keep your game automatically updated and you have the standalone client to play with less background processes/RAM eaten up.

You're welcome.

False. I use steam client and decals with no issues.

for me as of this patch I try loading MWO via steam and I cannot apply decals. it could've been because I transferred the standalone client into steam and the. let it install, and could've caused some small error (I use "unique sounds" for the game, that might've been it.).

I put a loud bell onto my black, outdoor-only cat.

..and, in four inches of snow.. the little **** still went and killed a bird.

I'm now convinced that he's a ninjer.

I tried the direct link and it still doesn't work. It's not an mc issue. I have nearly 4000 mc. Maybe I'll have to use it for something else.

It took me like 20 minutes to figure out that I had to drag the owned decal into the "decal 1" box, and only then could I put it on the mech. I cannot blame the instructions because I would have tried for another 20 minutes before reading them!!! Go men!!!

When you select a decal it is by default in the first decal slot if there is none on the mech. The instructions say to double click to place on the mech and nothing happens. I see the actual decal, not the error box that indicates that it cannot be placed. I cannot purchase the decal because I can't put it on the mech. So it's a sort of catch 22.

I never had a problem with decals on the steam version but doing this workaround drastically increased my in game performance, so thank you very much for sharing this :)

Here is a photo depicting the decal application process, or lack thereof. This is just one of the many mechs and decals which I tried. Note the yellow triangle that appears whenever I try to apply one. Oh, and by the way, PGI support never replied back to my support email. I know, shocking...
