I feel like the King Crab could be a great mech in a slightly different game model. If the game allowed the KC to use it's TOP armor, it could effectively hunker down and take hits on it's shielded head and then suddenly its effective. The mech design is good, it's just the game model that doesn't work for it.

Make sense?

It suffers like most mech in game these days, its cored in seconds.. Alphas are too damn high or CTs have become to weak, if they really want to raise TTK strengthen mech CTs by 2 or 3 times they are now.. then people will be forced to shoot at other parts of a mech not core them in seconds..

Necro or not nothing has changed in over a year.

I like King Crabs, they have lot's of awesome dakka bulds.

It's a bit sad that 2 AC20 builds are bad loadouts for them though, given how iconic it is. AC20 could probably have GH removed without balance issues, at least allow 2.

It's kind of hard to balance these slow mechs properly for quick play, because the problem is often that you simply get abandoned and there's no way to deal with that except to make the mech powerful enough to solo 4 enemy mechs.

That being said, even in a 1v1 situation, the King Crab may be the worst of all 100 ton mechs right now. Maybe it would beat the Atlas on the right map, but even with 2xAC20, I don't really feel comfortable brawling with other assault mechs. The ghost heat means that I basically have to face hug a lot in order to maximize dps, and it's not really agile enough to stick and move either.

I guess a lot of people must be struggling with the King Crab these days, because I swear to God, the majority of them seem to neglect ballistics in order to run 3xLPL + 3xSRM6 or PPCs + SRMs.

What's hilarious is that if you are trying to 1v1 an Atlas, you aren't going to do it with AC/40. My -D-DC build is MRM 60 + UAC 20, which is a 100 point alpha with screen shake. Even UAC/40 doesn't have that kind of damage. You'd have to go with a mirror build, MRM stacks + whatever ballistic makes you feel good.

I have such mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, AC/40 is a joke compared to 2x HGR. On the other, 2x HGR is probably OP in QP.
