So What Do We Do?

At this point its clear to see on both sides that the team with the LRM pug swarm on it loses and the team that has the high number of mercs wins. We can also see that under no circumstance will these two groups tolerate staying on the same side as each other for an extended period.
Tech seems balanced enough at the moment give or take a quirk here and there on the mechs that aren't the top tier meta for their faction, but the population is the problem. The guys running LRM builds chucking rockets into rocks from spawn don't seem to be willing to stop what they are doing and learn from their mistakes or if anything at least learn how to use their favored weapon properly.
Do we just keep farming these guys until they uninstall or what?
Could go back to the system where we split people with tags from people without, this way anyone willing to be in a group can create a one man group and play with the people who wish to coordinate and have designated themselves as such by being in a unit while the people who wish not to put in that effort can stay in their own queue. We'd have unit queue for coordinated battles and then tagless queue for the solo rambos until it dries up from their dislike of getting rained on by the same LRMs they love to use.
We need a potato bin.

What should have happened was split the queues the same way they split the QP queues, put a limit on how many people from a given unit can be in the same drop in the solo side and job done.

I think the reality you live in is different from mine
Jokes aside, pgi needs a better way to even out the merc population than mech packs and tonnage.

Main issue with the split is that they did it on a Wednesday and removed it before the weekend even hit. No random pugs would have even known it existed for the most part. Then they went and did an event the weekend after. I was really hoping at the time that it would last until the big event so that it would get a population surge then the pugs would see that they can play FW and not get farmed like they asked for for over a year.
I feel the actual split itself worked out pretty perfect, just the timing was bad and they didn't give it a chance.

This is teamwork OP mode of the game after all.

The group queue was going fine due to it being tag based rather than group based. There were many pilots who played solo but kept tags and wished to coordinate so they'd keep their tags and be placed in the group queue, even as a solo, and they'd fill out slots for larger groups easily. Group queue was full, booming, having match after match and each match was fun and had coordination on both sides.
Solo queue was the dead queue and the reason, at least the one they gave, for them ending it since it was taking solo queue players up to an hour to get a match (late on a Thursday night). The vast majority of people actually into FW wish to coordinate with a team, or at least did back then. With the new influx of players in CW4.1 with the quickplay maps and hype or whatever they may be able to create a solo queue again for these players and actually get matches and have some player retention at levels similar to quickplay.

At least they were bad players smart enough to actually create a unit just to get into the queue, and they were the minority. It was much better than the spud hordes we have now at least and allowed for players a way to indicate they wish to coordinate.
I'd honestly just be happy with a "Casual" and "Competitive" tick box for FW with only one option able to be selected at a time, but I feel the tag requirement would weed out just a bit more starch.

I feel that soon enough the potato population will move onto something else as getting farmed is not fun.

They seem rather persistent, even going through the process of buying full Clan decks after IS didn't work out for them. They seem to play a whole lot too, as they are in so many matches and have a load of cbills.

Still, it would be nice if there was a place that potatoes could roam free, some type of underground queue in which they could grow and sprout and possibly one day learn.

Like it did before, and before that, and before that.

Technically what you are asking for is already in the game, its called quick play.

Now to just require a certain level in quickplay tier or WL or KDR or something before letting people get into FW, say its training for FW and that the factions only hire professional mechwarriors or something. Though everytime someone suggests that you get some guy shouting about how that's the wrong thing to do, when its a win-win situation, we don't have to carry sacks of potatoes and the potatoes don't get farmed.

There's one issue with that. There is a element of PuG's that refuse to work or join units out of spite from being clubbed or just a general distrust/disgust of player groups.

Perhaps the potato's should be seeking out units and asking for help as well. Thats why we have these forums and units are advertising they want people in them.
Dont leave it up to other people when you can do it yourself.
