What Is It With Afk Griefers?

Dude gets angry b/c potatoes go and potato, so he petulantly goes and powers down in a corner until the timer runs out.
No intent to play, not even a "death and glory" attempt to get all the kills.
On both occasions the griefer--two different people--explicitly said "you guys suck, so now I am going to make you wait."
Has this always been happening, and it's just the first I've seen? Or is this a new low in online gaming behavior?

I've had to wait out these little tantrums before and its certainly deserving of them getting a holiday.
PGI could do a lot more to make sure it cant happen.

Yes, the cars on Crimson move when you shoot them, now will you please help the guy that is on fire?

Anyways, I haven't run into it in awhile, but it's effective at making me angry, that's for sure. If your team got steamrolled, they're already having a bad time. "Punishing" them, and the enemy team, by hiding shutdown in a corner? That's just you making the match and game itself more toxic for everyone else.

Aaaaaaanyways... I probably should have mentioned this earlier, but, you DO realize it's against the CoC to shutdown just to wait out the timer when you'll lose anyways, right?

If my team getting stomped badly I just turned on override shutdown then I force myself to charge in to enemies. Because it's more honorable than sit down cowardly and insulting your team like a edgy spoiled brat. Because I'm honorable Clansmen!

As much as it's called an objective and you've lost fights where you killed everyone and lost on caps, how often does it happen? If say more often then not, you'd lose when team splits up too much to get caps and ignores a 10 man death ball

1. Tab > Click the [Redacted] name > Report
2. Screenshot, in the future, and send that in. If you can or did capture what he says/said, send it!
People like this must be removed from MWO and humanity itself.

I've been in the MechWarrior community since 1999, it's uber salty bro.
You think MWO is bad you haven't heard of league of legends, Call of duty or 995 of other multiplayer communities then, this is one of the best ive seen.

Not sure what the particular rage was (it's already redacted), but I forgot to include in my OP that in both instances I was leveling an unbasicked 'mech, so I couldn't just exit and requeue up =/
I did report in both instances, and implored both teams to do so.
Still, don't be that guy. Potatoes gonna potato - don't punish everyone else b/c you can't handle the fact that other people are incompetent.
Thanks for the positive responses

Yeah, these are situations where it's legit. I use the report feature sparingly.
First instance this week was Assault on PH. Dude was in a Cataphract stripped of all weapons, last one alive against five enemies, powers down and waits till the timer runs out or the enemy team caps to win. It wasn't just me trying to interpret his behavior (wasn't trying to cap their base) to say he was griefing: he was explicitly saying "lurm assault potatoes [Redacted] me, now I [Redacted] them."

PGI removed the option to report players in game for intentional non-participation. (I'm pretty sure it used to exist, but there's a slight chance it was my imagination.) The only griefing options are I believe "Team Damage", "Team Killing", "Assisting the Enemy", and "AFK". None of these are appropriate for chronic non-participators: people who actively avoid engagement at the end of a match just to draw it out for no reason.
Draiocht, could you possibly pass this along to PGI that this is unacceptable? I'd like to be able to properly report players who are disrupting games by intentionally wasting time.

The in-game context-menu is currently separated as Griefing (Team Damage, Team Killing, Assisting the Enemy) and Nonparticipation (Suiciding, AFK). The most accurate selections right now would be (Griefing > Assisting the Enemy) or (Nonparticipation > AFK), depending on the circumstances.
I'll forward the UI request to Community Manager Tina Benoit.

And yes, that's correct. That would also be considered assisting the enemy. PGI Support will investigate reported misconduct as to whether a situation is nonparticipation or natural gameplay (such as ambushes or strategic evasions).
