Right, now they offer a means that is, for most players, more affordable per mech than the 12-18million to kit out a mech. Yes, its a different mechanic, yes its permanent, and yes if we wanted to apply a little smidge of reality, it would make sense that you can't easily just pull a piece out and plug it in elsewhere.
With respect there has not been many mechs that I have bought that I have not had to change the engine or repurpose equipment to make the design viable most mechs come unpacked suboptimal I buy mech pack and often use the 6.6M cbills to get it such that it is competitive. So the cost of mechs will be high still quite high mastering them although better than shown at Mechcon there was an real outcry as to the cost almost immediately and Russ tookto twitter to say that the numbers were placeholders the griund would be comparable and so on
As to the actual mechanics of the economy if they charged for swapping over mech weapons or engines or changing armour then great let them tell their player base what they are going to do and see the reaction. I have stated that I do not believe in F2P as a moniker for these types of games because if people do not pay PGI lights and computer would not be on. We pay for less grind we pay for new mechs, I suggest it would take over US$1.5-3 Million to keep the light and I am sure that MWO nand MW5 is not their only projects so the player base which stands at around 30K (which plays minimum of 10 games) must be furnishing a between $50 and $100 as it is which is pretty good for a small player base and niche product

Frankly for a F2P I'm surprised they don't have a charge for moving any components around, like engines and weapons. I guess the mechbay mechanics are just that charitable...
As I said we must be averaging $50 to $100 per annum in real cash. many whales are spending much more hell I buy 25000MC every year as my Christmas present to myself My other present is an NBA league pass subscription. persoanlly I would be happy with a subscription of $100 per year for me it would be cheaper.

I get that some people aren't cool with being called cheap, but I think most people are going to find that unless they live permanently in cbill poverty they'd be able to kit out there favorite/best mechs and soon be getting others set up.
The other thing is that we've all known this was happening for what, 6+ weeks? Are the same people worried about the costs still living large or are they trying to start saving for the expenses?
Its clear PGI is moving forward with this.
No doubt and I will still be playing but as I pointed out for me I pay for mech pack and I pay for MC and convert XP to GXP. Then the person that all this money gets pissed at me for saying that his skill tre does not work properly and says I am a cheapskate is certainly going to hear about it.
People are not going to stop complaining about this since that is the only influence we have. Say PGI is moving forward with this will mean some people will vote with their wallets that would make for a less interesting game as it is there is only 30K of us around the world and the people he seems to be pissing of are the people that spend a lot more money than me for this game
lastly I am not living large on my C bills I can only spend C bill on mechs, modules engines equipment and weapons, I have been grinding because I never really have much in the way of C bills to hand as I spend it on engines and rebuilding my mechs
So I will have an extra 40Million to spend on mastering when the 21st happens as of today I reckon I will get another few million out before then. I will concentrate on using the better mechs until I have ground out enough C bills to mess with the others. it will be a slowish process. I have ordered the javelin (i am crap at lights) and the roughneck so I will have work to do to get them up to a level where they are competitive.
