It's probably a symptom of fewer experienced players playing, leaving only newer players who don't know any better than bringing LRMs.
I suspect that this is also one of the issues why more and more rolls happen. These LRMoverlords lurm their way up to higher tiers because LRMs do inflated damage numbers without being able to fire direct weapons accurately.
Then they find themselves in matches against teams with experienced players and not on Polar HighLRMlands, and are responsible that their team gets creamed royally. Simply because hiding at the fringe of the map behind a wall of rocks firing LRMs on 900m with their LRM-Assault mech doesn't do the job anymore.

Or maybe I play plenty and you're just bad at fighting a terrible weapon system?
I don't think LRMs are great and prefer "normal" weapons myself, however, LRMs being totally useless is also exaggerated. The moment you understand that LRMs should be fired at mid range, they become useful.
Using them as a suppression weapon to eas pressure on your team or pin a mech in place is also neat, simply because everyone who sees the missile message will take cover.
