It's not shelved. It's delayed for testing so they can put out a better product. The skill tree will happen, we just want something that doesn't alienate the majority of the player base.
I'm amazed at the number of people who can't be asked to read what is actually written and see the intent behind the delay and the fact we will get the skill tree in the not so distant future.

So1ahma skill tree Proposal
I just wish I had seen this sooner. It's so amazing, it's the best player-made proposal for MWO I have seen in a long time. Such an elegant solution to the major problems. And best of all, it's really easy to balance to deal with potential problems that could crop up.

P.S. I also think that with the delay the PGI developers should look at So1ahma's skill tree proposal and examine if it, or a modified version of it, could be part of the answer. I salute So1ahma's dedication to this project.

I had a job once where I wrote out orders that my boss signed off on. I would spend a lot of time making sure I had the wording just right, all of considerations accounted for, and was as perfect as I could make the order. Then my boss would send it back to me with corrections and changes. I would get so mad because he wanted to use different wording, or have things done differently than my well thought out plan. I was holding on too tightly to my own opinion and didn't want to hear his opinion.
Eventually I realized I was just the middle man. I had to satisfy his desires when it came to the orders, not my own.
That's why I think they haven't fixed the skill tree like the video shows. Because they are holding on too tight and don't want to admit they should be making us happy, not themselves.

So when it's feedback you agree with that gets changes made its great, but when it's feedback you don't agree with its whining.

I was growing very concerned that we would see a mistake in the form of the new skill system released before it was ready to transition to Live. It would have been a somewhat understandable mistake ( I recall all the brouhaha around earlier elements, particularly Faction Warfare, that were announced and then not released on time) but a mistake nonetheless. It is good to see improvement in response by learning from both such events and from hearing what your players are saying (In this case, of particular relevance is that there would have been vastly less complaining about the Faction Warfare delays had there been regular communication of some sort as to what was going on with them- with the presence of the Public Test Server and the tests you run on it, just having the testing fulfills a lot of that.)
I am looking forwards to seeing the upcoming iteration(s?) of the skill tree on the Test server, and will do what I can within reason to participate and continue to provide feedback. I hope as many others as can will do the same (and get the impression that this hope will be at least partially fulfilled as well.)

But the rest, it just feels like nit picking. And a waste of time. They're not going to completely change the trees. They're just going to squish the skills and possibly consolidate the less useful ones or remove them. But they'll reduce the points you get to compensate. It's going to come out to the same thing anyways. It's just inconvenient, not game breaking enough to throw a fit over.

And I'm amazed at the amount of hypocrites this community has. Sure, we are bad bad people for not reading the text and getting the intent of this delay, but you all can happily ignore the posts explaining the intent of the skill tree, even if those were written in plain simple english just as much as this last post...

Please remember, that the most devoted feedback providers dont want "things their way". They want to make this game better for every player. They are here to help you.
No, they (you) just want things their way because they (you) feel there are absolutely no other valid way of playing the game, because no one knows better than them (you), or else they (you) are going to throw a big tantrum and a whole lot of posts and YT videos about how they (you) are quitting the game and how much we will miss you.
