At most, just another dakkawolf like mech.. approach from side, hit CT from just about anywhere.. Or blot out it's sun with missiles..
No problem..
Back in previous games, the CT would go up in smoke super fast, and was basically the ONLY component that ever got destroyed..
Keep in mind that even with the biggest engine it can mount, its still a snail.. and if you use a smaller engine.. its a turret with legs.. a locust will dance circles around it..

Perhaps if they allow dual heavy Gauss with a STD 300?

Its gonna be DOA.
So why would you take one when you can get an Atlas with a light 360? Or a Boars Head with a light 400? Or a Madcat mk II (read as marauder IIC on roids)?
So many other mechs will be better.

Also, older whales beat younger whales, unless the latter are very "resilient" like a certain person

Ugh... was that mission 1 or 2... I remember the first time I encountered it, it got a head shot on my Bushie with all four of the AC/s on it...
Yea, I know what you mean one was really resilient, the other one was just abrasive....

When the Cyclops is released it is going to get insta-headshot by every OP LiGhT MeCh within 1Km...
Honestly though, it seems to me that the annihilator will be a bigger Mauler. The head placement is actually much less likely to be headshot than the mauler's center mass cockpit.
As for the interesting aspects of the Annihilator
It can use all of its major components for large AC's.
It has a periscope head that should let it peek over obstacles without presenting too big of a target.
It appears, judging from the store page art, that it is the only mech that can dance.
Really though, the direwhale speed is the only issue i see with it, and with LFE's it should be pretty comparable is survivability.

Never been headshot in my cataphract, and i drive it most the time i want to kill stuff.
I've been headshot in my Loki, though, that kinda surprised me.

IMO it's just a taller, lankier king crab. Easy to hit torso but sleeker and taller. Good shield arms though.
Good shield arms typically cover a significant portion of the torso. The Anni has arms that only cover half the torso, the neck sticks out way further than the head of most humanoids, in other words, it has overrated shield arms. Especially given the speed at which this moves, it will be easily to isolate that neck section and smash it, especially since it will crane over pieces of terrain.

Because an Atlas cannot mount enough Heatsinks to maintain fire output with all its energy weapons. If you run ONLY ballistics and missiles, then an Atlas might stand toe to toe with an Annihilator. Anni's do ballistics better.
Also, I slightly disagree with your assessment that the Direwolf is Dead. It has a locked 300 engine, too, and I make it work.

Well if its any consolation, to really make use of all its ballistics, you wouldn't really want bigger than a 300 engine anyway in most cases.
The biggest issue for me is the geometry.

It has already received a mighty big agility quirk by a massively raised engine cap (should be 240).
And it is still bad. I cannot believe how this was chosen over a Fafnir.
You do realize that having a Sub-250 engine is a problem with the Vindicator and Blackjack (and some Lights). You actually want to penalize the Assault mech further?
Also, PGI didn't include Heavy Gauss on the list, so go figure on why the Fafnir didn't get selected.

Yes, I do realize a small engine cap is a huge problem. That is why the Annihilator should not have been chosen in the first place. Well, that, and the bad geometry.

People are being sold on nostalgia, not practicality.
To be fair, they did choose to release the Huntsman instead of Black Lanner although the latter won the votes.
It seems likely that PGI keeps the Fafnir for later so they could cash on on both the Annihilator and Fafnir. Or maybe they couldn't figure out how to implement the LegoMech system into Fafnir's iconic looks.

because any of the ones chosen fit into the lego mech system.... scissor legs, cobra hood neck and head, etc.....

Well, PGI already knows what the next IS Assault is going to be then.

If you sell all the "practical" stuff first, what does that leave you with? Smart business is to spread the good stuff out and pace yourself. In fact, if we distill that to the core.. why sell more than I mech for each weight class, per faction, to begin with? Just take Ale'x Metanator and go... that is the ideal Comp Solution, yeah?

I'm concerned that they can't figure out what to do with the Fafnir's big @ss twin barrels since they have to implement LegoMech.
