Then scale back the "god" durability quirks until they don't out perform similar clan equivalents? It's not that complicated.
I still run XLs on some heavies and assaults if they have decent hitboxes and move quickly enough. It rarely ever bites me.
Then people arnt XL checking like they should be. Even with LFE, if your only shot is a ST, take it, it will not only reduce firepower but make that IS pilot have to actually manage his heat.
So to try and force a IS mech to use a XL (med/lights excluded) AND give it Godly Plate of the Whale quirks would be way too ibma.
But on the flipside, again it would be too weak. It's tough mech to balance in the meta.

Eh, more like the builds I use XLs with don't require you to get up in people's faces so I can use good positioning to not get killed prematurely. It wouldn't take THAT much quirking to make them viable. Certainly not more than the level of durability that other mechs in game get.
Put it this way, if they can make Clan Battlemechs and Clan Omnimechs balanced with one another, then they can make IS Battlemechs and IS omnimechs balanced with each other.

Jumpy Mist Lynx with lasers & ECM is fun.... a Stinger/Wasp will be even better (and yes, they get ECM variants).

And in my experience the battlemechs for clan are just better at mid range to brawl. Long range I have more omnis.

We don't know how exactly the lawsuit was resolved. It might well be that PGI is only allowed to continue using existing unseens like the Marauder. Adding new ones could be another issue.
Tbh, I would have expected the Crusader being what the Marauder II became: the pre-order bonus poster child of MW:5. Well perhaps they reserve the Crusader for the actual release, but I am quite sure they won't do any less. I mean throwing in an important Mech like the Crusader just in between does not seem right.
I do expect some SW-era unit but I really cannot tell what unit exactly. I could not even guess the weight class. I'd wish for the Lynx, which has a SW-downgrade variant, but I am afraid if it is a Medium... we might get the Dervish.

I find both the IS Rifleman/Rifleman IIC to be pretty good looking mechs in general. But if you want some truely ugly mechs here are some candidates:
Blitzkreig, aka the skillet on legs because you never know when you want to fry an egg in battle -
Flashman, aka the walking light bulb (could pass as the urbanmech's older brother) -
Howler (Baboon), aka who needs side torsos anyways? -
Bonus round: Grizzly. I would lol hard if PGI goes with this artwork concept design, because why not make your cockpit almost the entire length of your body torso?

There's a Clan assault mech in the 3055 (maybe?) TRO that's like 80 tons and has legs so thin they might as well be made of string. I looks like a flamingo.

Which, oddly enough, is one of the best remaining Heavy choices for Clan.
The "1" has 8E 2B
The 2 has 7E 3B & ECM
The 3 has 8E 2B
The 4 has 9E
Being a BattleMech with JJs and a 375XL as standard, it's pretty much a better Timber Wolf
