with LRM5 boats, just to watch them overheat and start ranting and cussing in the allchat? It'll be great...either they will toggle it off to avoid overheating... or they'll shut down, at which time you switch from chain to group fire... and profit! ;)

I know my Mad Dog's body is ready!

Turning it off simply means I switch to group fire and allow them to witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle station!

Either way...yay me! And boo them! :P

Unknown to be honest, but since most mechs struggle with heat, anything that adds (and will continue to add as long as it's engaged) is a bad thing in the long run.

It actually will hopefully be situationally useful, but I also know there will be a lot of taters waiting for the baking!

Almost as fun as that is trolling the forums to see how many butthurt to "quasi scientific" debates gets started! :P

In TT per usage is 7 for IS and 5 for Clans, so 1-2 medium class lasers roughly... SO with a chain fire LRM5/dog and someone pushing 1-2 LAMS you could force them into shut down....

I plan on putting it to the test come the summer....Posted Image

Seems like LAMS is more of a liability then.

AMS is only 1 ton , .5 for the weapon .5 for the ammo.

Yup... still will be fun to see how many people thing about picking it up... All that being said, it is more space and weight efficent than packing enough ammo for AMS for a whole match.

Both forms of missile protection are going to be alot more useful though , with MRMs and ATMs being added.

Just hope i can figure out how to put AMS on my timberwolf and Dire Wolf with there sole ams omnipod -.-

On the other hand, the LAMS never runs dry of ammo halfway through the match the way regular AMS does all the god damned time, and only has to operate for long enough for the LRM-5 spam'd 'mech to get into cover.

LAMS guys will have to learn when to flip their AMS on and off, yeah, but I don't foresee overheat shutdowns due to LRM-5 spam being a crippling issue for anyone but the rawest of rookies. And in the meantime, people can finally make use of their AMS hardpoints without also having to devote three tons of ammunition weight to the damned thing to make it last through a match.

Funny part is that new players actually can figure out how to use quotes, whereas King Cobra, a "vet" still can't. Anyone wanna predict the over under on him being able to figure out the toggle for LAMS? Any takers?

Oh and ROFL LOL LOL, learn how to quote, spud.

Oh...btw?

perhaps a name change to Spud Cobra is in line?

the LAMS uses a Small Pulse Laser, ensuring that the system never runs out of ammunition.

so arround 0.73 HPS or 8 shs / 5 dhs to not notice it per unit.

with 10 dhs in the engine you can fire 2 without taking any heat however your heat dissipation will be almost none.

The real question is, will they have a separate button for LAMS toggle, so I can run both it and AMS on a 'mech and choose which one(s) to use and when? Posted Image

they would have to since ams uses ammo and LAMS doesn't.

im going to specifically use it on cold mechs, like my ballistics boats. i usually dont use ams on those specifically because all my preferred ammo locations are full and i dont want to waste them with ams ammo.

that said lams is based on a small laser, so if a small laser pushes you over the limit you probibly have other problems with your build than having lams.
