Most of the time I wish there was more "inappropriate language" and casual disrespect thrown around. I'm a thick skinned person and all my friends are too, its just how we joke around with each other by insulting each other in a joking fashion. The ingame chat, and especially the forums are too uptight for my likings. I prefer how the faction play forum is a bit more, they seem more casual and it reminds me to have fun and not be too serious. Occasionally I'll get ingame matches that are more relaxed, but that's the type of thing that OP would report.

I'm also of the opinion that using once heavily offensive words often and in a joking or friendly manner is better than banning all use of the word. It takes all power away from those who would actually use it for its original purpose and turns it into a joke, thus defeating the opposition.

I'm also a nutjob who actually likes the CSGO community, one thing that occasionally brings me back to that game even though I dislike its mechanics.

No, it doesn't. Ask any lawyer.

There is no federal obscenities law in the U.S. No idea about Canada. In he US the last obscenity case heard by the Supremes was Miller v. California in the early 70's wherein Burger's "community standards...appeals to the prurient interest" language was put forth. Good luck providing providing a "community standard" on the internet.

This type of behavior will all end once there are services you can order online to assault or eliminate people from the safety of your own home. As it currently stands, it is too scary for the average person trying to use racial slurs and whatnot in public because of possible physical violence/retribution (hence why they do it on the internet) and also too difficult to order assaults or terminations on those aforementioned people because of legal sanctions against vigilante justice. I think with the right amount of money in the future, people will be able to have access to a wider variety of services than just a ride from Uber when you're drunk or whatever.

So you believe terminating someone is okay because someone else disagrees with what they think?

Oh dear god, please no. I'd much rather have PGI ban you and leave the people who type a few mean words in chat left alone. You can turn chat off. Please ban the OP. We can say whatever we want over chat.

PGI has rules that say otherwise. You CANNOT say anything you want. In fact, there are even laws in America that prohibit certain types of speech, such as hate speech and any speech that creates "clear and present danger."

Albeit those cases are very narrowly defined.

But PGI's servers are the property of PGI. You only get to use them if you follow the rules of decorum.

Hey, the rules aren't even strict. It's easy to NOT say something incendiary. It's called respect.

For my part, I have a high tolerance. An occasional bit of foul langauge is ignored. Persistant and pervasive vulgar words get reported. So do racial slurs and the like. It's simple.

On this server, the only standards that matter are PGI's. Federal laws and protections for speech do not apply. Those only prohibit government censorship. PGI is not a government; it is a private enterprise. Their servers - Their rules.

No, there aren't. Other countries sure, but not the US.

Sure. That's not happening in MWO voip or text chat...

Yup.

True. And I'm making my argument on their forum that the rules and our (players') interpretation of the rules ought to err on the side of free speech, particularly as the rules are enforced almost entirely through community self-policing and reporting.
Ultimately it's still up to PGI.

US law is not applicable in this case. Canada has various anti-descrimination laws as well as acts and province level policy. PGI would be bound to enforce certain standards especially anything that would be regarded as hate. As far as offensive language, that is a different story.

All this bull political correctness has got to stop, people are such whimps nowadays oooh don't say that you may offend someone seriously take a teaspoon of cement and harden the F up
Its totally out of control eg bah bah rainbow sheep just cause you cant say the colour black or fun in kookaburra as gay might offend, gay originally meant happy but modern times have put a different spin on it
Wake up to yourselves and get a life and stop worrying over nothing and stop being so thin skinned and insecure

Dag Nab'n snarf humping, pony molest'actor, have nuttin better to do than git their jimmies all rustlin. They start crying afoul when their , snuggle'esk ears are tainted by the venomous slang of smurf no no munchers, its sad time we live in. cant even use appropriate slang to riles one adversary . its now:( good day sir, may i have a shot at your mech with my quad gauss rifles?

why most certainly sir, i would love a good quad gaussing, have not had the pleasuer of a quad gauss in many o moons.)

while these monchi'chi toes sniffers go about their pleasantries and kosher game play, they start to expect others to do the same . and when they are called a platypus's snagle puss, they get all upset and report for a ban .
because we cant have a bunch of surly fraggle power puffers smack talking one another. because ya know da' feelz man da' feelz... they be'z realz. and ya cant go around hurt'n da feelz.

Bob marley wrote a song about .

Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry, be happy
In every life we have some trouble
But when you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy now
don't worry
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry, be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry, be happy
Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
Don't worry, be happy
The landlord say your rent is late
He may have to litigate
Don't worry, be happy
Oh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh don't worry, be happy
