There seems to be a lot of accusations of cheating going on, some founded and some not so much. This plague is killing our new player base, and threatens to ruin the game. First off most accusations of cheating are unfounded. I will bring up one example, because I know these guy and they are fair. Kcom gets a lot of accusations, but they are unfounded I have run with these guys and against them. They are fair , and as good as they seem. One of their newer members is the one who recruited me to my unit 3 years ago. He is no cheat, and if they cheated he would expose them in a heart beat. But still the accusations fly....why because they are good. Because they are good they get more scrutiny. Listen if guys like Kcom, 228 and their like were nothing more than hacks, PGI would have been rid of them long ago.

Still there is cheating, we know this because PGI has let us know, but not often enoph, so the rumors prosiest. The cheaters are usually single individuals, or some group that you never heard of suddenly tearing up the IS (cheaters are usually clanners because better is better). For example I play this game almost every day about the same time. starting 2 days ago I started running into group X ( I wont call them out, hopefully PGI will). I ran into one guy that killed 3 heavy mechs with 1 clan mech, each time with next to no damage. He only ejected when he ran out of ammo. His Mad dog seemed impenetrable. Upon further inspection many in his group did the same...was this a cheater, looks like it. Mad dogs are not known as "the Tanky mech". Ironically in the second match against them that day I went looking for X player and found a mad dog, he went down in the usual manner, except my mistake it was someone who was not in his unit. moments latter I met up with X and he dispatched my fourth mech handily. Thus making the second mach that day that X has killed 3 of my mechs with one Mad dog ( the fourth mech was killed by another player).

The point is PGI has needs to become more proactive about making it harder for the cheaters and more fierce about shamming the ones they catch publicly. Thus keeping the new players...so that they become payers ( face it PGI is not a charity they need to pay people) while also keeping good players from facing constant baseless accusations.

I want to know what you the community (forumwarriors need not apply) so we can help PGI make this the kind of game we all want it to be.

Report all, let PGI sort out the data.

The amount of "cheating" or "hacking" accusations, for the most part, are totally unfounded. If they were actually true, they would be backed up with video evidence.

Have you got any? Probably not, like all others before you.

Sadly most of the "hackusationists" are coming from people that are, just, not good.

Hackers are rare, very rare. Most are easily identified and banned. It's not an issue the morons around here would make people believe.

There is no durability quirked
He was just fighting Potato, who couldn't kill a MadDog

They do ban cheaters occasionally, as the reports trickle in, or their own detection finds them
They've also said they keep a few around (the Terribads, even with Haxors) to monitor the software changes over time.

Someone bust you for using the HAXX and you're trying to cover it up again wicm?

I'm on to you.

Teasing aside cheating in the game is rare.... but it does happen. The proactive approach they had for a bit was great - it just didn't last.

While I would love regular updates with who got banned for cheating the problem is it just helps the people making the cheats identify how they are getting caught. I'm not sure how best to address it - i just want confirmation that PGI aggressively investigates cheating and bans those who do.

I was called a cheater the other day because i stalked an Awesome with 4x ppc, blocked him with my locust and killed him pointblank without worry. Get to know your mechs and weaponry before you accuse others for naughty actions...

Cheating? In MechWarrior? I mean if they want to cheat they're going to have a really hard time doing so since this community has a 110% no ******** policy against cheaters.

On another note:

Anyone else think that PGI should allow us to name and shame convicted cheaters?

I've been playing this game since early 2014 and the only obvious hack I have seen in my entire career was a Timber Wolf on Polar Highlands with 4 CERLL that had an aimbot. I was running out across the open in a Kit Fox at the begining of the match. Who is going to be able to land a meaningful hit on a small and mobile target like a Kit Fox at the begining of the match on Polar Highlands? I felt safe. Then suddenly my side torso instantly exploded. From concentrated ERLL fire from a Timber Wolf from 1000m away. He did not even scratch any of my other components with his 1km CERLL burn. I made it my personal mission to kill him in that match. during the time it took me to flank him other team mates started reporting losing the same side torso in one hit from the same Timber Wolf. Finally I got behind him and started opening up his rear. He never turned around, just kept backing straight into me because he was such a terribad that he thought he was getting shot from the front despite the fact that I was shooting him in the back with Machine Guns which is the most obvious weapon in the game as far as what direction you are getting hit from. He died swiftly, everyone laughed at him, everyone reported him, never saw him again. This is the only encounter with cheating I have ever had in MWO.

Calling me out for being a bad player 1) not helpful 2)well known info....ash Posted Image The problem is cheating real or imagined still hurts the new player base. We all like this game and want it to thrive...other wise you are in the wrong forum. There must be a way for PGI to guarantee no cheating. So that lesser players (like me...ash) have confidence and good players (like ash) do not get accused.

Huh? Most players don't record every match. Not saying anything one way or the other about hackusations, just saying evidence is hard to come by.

Trev makes a good point. I am an old guy..I do not even know how to record a match. BTW if I did it would probably crash my slower pc.Posted Image How many new players would not bother and just move on to Miencraft?

I would consider being accused of cheating to be the ultimate compliment...

While I cannot say I actually saw cheating, I know once in a Faction play their was this one guy who killed three of my mechs in a row. I found that unusual and since I never encountered this before, I let it go. But always wondered if this was some kind of cheating, instead I just racked it up as one lucky SOB.

Ibtl. Btw there are cheaters. You will not know if you see one. If you think you see one report it and move on.

.

Getting videos of cheaters isn't easy you have to be at thier view point and sometimes have two. This is the reason I tweet Russ asking for game playback feature every so often. It would cut out most cheating.

Funny thing some of the big groups the op is promoting have had players caught cheating as they are larger comp groups.

It's hard to tell some times. The 60+ ban they did a few years ago one of the players banned used to play with us on the TS server. I had no idea back then but now of days I would as I have seen it. If people knew what to look for and as there are only the few hacks there would be more bans and less false accusations.

How to legitimately make a "Tanky" Mad Dog.

Take all torso armor (except 1 point per rear torso to fool people) and throw it on the front torso.

Then any Mad Dog can tank as well as the Quickdraw which is also NOT a tanky mech... but then again watch this.

Note you will hear at least two Gauss hits, many LRM hits, some AC hits... and yet..mostly yellow armor with the exception of the CT after a LOT of abuse that would basically tear any Quickdraw asunder.

Cheating will always exist IMO. As others have said, report if you're not sure, let PGI take a look.

Personally, the only time I report anyone is if I get hit with more than one headshot at range on the move. I'm not talking about laser splash, or some LBX pellets. But if someone hits me in the head with gauss/ppc/IS AC at range on the move, and does it more than once I'm suspicious. Same thing applies if the same guy does it to multiple people in a match. Of course, sometimes you might get hit by just one full gauss/ppc salvo and be dead from that headshot.....

Then again, most cheaters aren't dumb enough to start nailing repeated headshots to begin with....
