I was running 1 UAV, 2 strikes, and 2 coolshots on the PTS earlier. The problem with this is that:

1) It costs 200,000 cbills a match to run
2) It's a massive boost for the skill points put in, basically making it mandatory for comp


As it is, I'm assuming I'll have a comp spec ACH that I never take to PUGs.

Yeah I'm debating on loading up on some particular variants to get their free unlocks and just have multiple versions ready to go.


If I don't just lose all interest in the game (or comp) that is.

I'm with you on just about every part of of that.

Good news: I'm not going to have to level any of the next 300 mechs I buy.

Bad news: Uh, that was a big reason to keep logging on...

I would prefer http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Coolant_Pod and similar equipment for UAV/Arty/etc instead of consumables. That would be much more balanced, as long as Arty/Airstrike is limited to 1 per mech.

Edit: Requiring MC to have two cool shots in the new system is ridiculous. It should be two cool shots for c-bills, as before. Some of us don't care for the arty crap.
Intense disagreement with furthering a broken mechanic to be even more broken by orders of magnitude.

im all for more cool shots...in fact, MW4:Mercs there was unlimited coolant that recharged over time. I used it often and would in MWO.

Well then I stand corrected. I missed the bottom widget buried in the hive. Frankly after being immersed in writing prose like I am for hours every night, I don't have time to read complicated spiderwebs that PGI have concocted. Still, it costs more... 30k more, for the same thing we had before.

That's 60% inflation, which is a lot when you use them every drop.

And it costs 5 nodes. 5... nodes. For something we automatically had before.

I wish PGI would do away with all consumables. Consumables are additional firepower/heat sinks at no tonnage. They have been a distortion to balance ever since they were introduced.

At most, flushing coolant should be a core capabilitity of all Mechs - which you get to use once per match, and after that your heat efficiency becomes much worse.

Make an extra coolant refill reservoir should be a one-ton option for those who can't manage the heat of their builds or engagements.


I don't rely, I like to abuse them. If clowns will abuse arty, then I can abuse my own weapons. ;)

that defeats the purpose of having a heat mechanic if people can just ignore it with coolant.

im against even having coolshots personally.

damage is already high enough without being able to squeeze out an extra alpha with coolshots.


id rather see new consumables added that promote more tactical/strategic play anyway

like seismic sensor probe consumables, fake sensor signature consumables, etc...

I keep saying.. We should be able to load up all 4 consumables.. BUT you only get 2 uses per match, +1 with an extra use.


Maybe you should need to spend points to use more than 1? the point things could change a little, 1 point, you get two consumables to load. the next node you get to add one use. the 4th node would let you use one consumable more than once. aka EXTRA cool shot, or EXTRA UAV for example.


Not sure i like the ability to use 5 in one match, to me that is just to much.

No, it's better than before because both coolshots have the same effectiveness and that is greater than a coolshot 6. So either use both and eat the cost or don't. Overall, it's a net buff to coolshot effectiveness. Please stop making misinformed statements.

Why?

Because getting "free" (tonnage and crit space) upgrades without trade-offs is a bad thing.

Coolshots offer a significant advantage to players willing to spend the cbills. The 5 node cost is minimal and a far better investment than anything else in the tree for heat. Personally, I liked it better before we had coolshots, but that's neither here nor there.

You're also neglecting the fact that everyone is losing a module slot (UAV, strike, coolshot). They will also have to spend skill points to unlock more slots. Consumables are 0 tonnage, 0 crit slot free upgrades for anyone willing to spend a few cbills. Why should they be completely free. At least having to unlock them makes there some type of trade-off (even if it's stacked in favor of the consumables).
