Im not going to get into if the way they are refunding is good or bad . What I want to think about is how much is this going to hurt them financially.

Im getting back over 500k gxp. this is over 100 bucks worth.
Im getting so many gsp back i will never have to grind again.
They're giving people back consumable MC refunds.
Then we are getting some cbill module refunds.

Tons of people are going to skip spending cash for the mc-xp to gxp converter.
They are going to skip buying few extra mech bays because they got free mc now.
Lastly they're going to skip buying a mech pack because they have the cbill to buy a few other mechs now.

I just can't see this being a good business plan.

Don't tell the Paulconomist or he'll take away all forms of refunds. Gotta keep that "economy" stable, bruh.

You sound as if you think there is logic or reasoning behind any of the decisions made at PGI.

If they plan to never release anything again maybe? Or if people stop enjoying the game to the point they stop putting money in maybe?

People put money into projects they enjoy often without any form of in game recompense, and there are still plenty of things people can put money on for remaining.

People that have been playing long enough to have bought so much that they are flooded with more xp than they will ever spend, probably technically never needed to buy anything again (or to begin with), but still were. So I am sure they will be fine.

Again im not talking about if the skill tree is right or wrong. I am talking about the economy and how its going to effect them.

It looks to me at least in the short term its going to cost a lot. Normal people are getting back more than they would get in a year of events. We all know how much they hold on as tight as they can to what they give away in events.

Are you personally or do you think others will buy more of pgi products (mc,mechpacks,mc-gxp) because of this?

Another example, I was thinking of buying some of the new mechs and was thinking about getting the collector pack to get the xp/cbill +5% standing items and perm time. I can say there i no way im going too. After what i get back i dont see the value in these anymore.

It may very well affect sales or income flow from them, which may motivate them to either add new methods of monetisation or currency (including XP) sinks. It isn't going to cause the project to get shut down or anything.

Nah, I'll still spend money on Mech-Packs and camo. The true whale doesn't buy MC to buy something. The true whale buys MC first, and then finds something to spend them on. If all else fails, there are still some shades of orange I haven't unlocked yet.

Let me q this in for you op. Its real simple no one in there right mind, wants to regrind all that experience, and adults do not have time to regrind all that experience. Yes I know there are two types, just using a general term. Not to mention credits will be nice. So what does it boil down to? It will allow players to mess around with the new skill tree, without fear of being pushed into another endless long grind. Business model? Really? As if they make zero bucks off the mechs they sell.

You may be right. Or not. For example, I limit the number of Mechs that I buy because I hate the grind and un-skilled Mechs are less competitive than skilled Mechs. The combination of the "Rule of Three" and the necessary grind to skill up the Mechs meant that I bought a lot less. Now, I will have GSP, GXP, MC and C-Bills available to level the Mechs that I acquire in the immediate future. Knowing that I will not be forced to grind those Mechs to make them competitive means that I am much more likely to pre-order and pay cash for Mechs that I would not have bought under the old system.

Did I mention that I hate grinding?

Well there are a few things. Grinding keeps people playing. It keeps the population up and keeps people somewhat happy as the can find matches fast. For a company grinding isnt bad.

For a business model i would think keeping what you have and improving it without giving anything away would be the goal.Even better would be to get people to pay for it haha

example, new gui,fix skills that didnt work, change skills, add consumables and dozen other ideas we have seen.

I think they're more concerned about avoiding the CBill glut that would happen if they do a full module refund. Hence GSP instead of cbills. I can see some players sitting on their cbill pile iand waiting 6 months for mechs instead of buying mechpacks out of the gate. I'm sure they've already worked out which method is better for their business.

but they sell more mechs or make people need more XP in futur, because you cannot reconfig your emch without probably havign to readjust the skill tree, which leads people to buy more mechs (via C-bills or MC, and the mechbays needed) and also, needing to skill these mechs. or you do indeed reskill the emchtree, which emans requiring Xp. That could lead people to buying more premium for gathering more XP. Poeple may also need to buy C-bills from PGI because of need for mor emechs and skills costing C-bills as well.

so after all, it is very hard to say how it really will impact their pocket as this would need us to know how the most peoples accounts C-bills and GXP and module situation looks like.

Being generous with HXP/HSP etc... is more likely to encourage spend from people like myself who will purchase when happy with what PGI are doing... I'm unsure about ST... where as ED was a wallet slammer but new tech resulted in civil war pre-orders, cbill 2nd/3rd wave mechs are more likely to result in hero purchases for me... waiting on ST impact first though.

except im not buying anything from PGI ever again if I dont get a full cbill refund (or at least 50% cbills and 50% GSP) for my modules.

so theyre losing at least one customer if they proceed with this unsatisfactory compensation plan.

And im not entirely unsympathetic to that. Which is why I would settle for 50% cbills and 50% GSP.

Since I can sell my modules for 50% cbills anyway, the cbill economy would be no worse off if PGI just gave 50% cbills and 50% GSP. And giving me the 50% GSP in exchange for taking half cbills on my modules and the inconvenience of switching to the new system seems fair. I would feel fully compensated then.

I feel that is a reasonable compromise.

I mostly just buy MC on sale to get hero mechs on sale, I don't really care if that means I have to wait a year to get any given mech if it means I get hero mechs at the lowest possible price in the current model. The consumable refund is going to give me about 25 tons of hero mech worth of MC at those prices, that's probably going to be put towards another mech at some point.
