The wary customer sniffs the air near the check out line. Ever cautious of a trap, he thinks to himself "hmm a sale on the most popular mechs in the game...smells like a trap. I wonder where the nerf hammer is hiding and when it will strike."

Slowly, cautiously, he approaches the Battlemaster 2C. As he readies himself to click the "purchase" button a cold breeze flows through him. A vague recollection of something...something from the past...not a warning necessarily, but something more sinister but on its face innocent.

Then, in a flood of recollection he knows that doom is at hand if he goes further. He remembers it all:

"June will see an extensive balance pass performed on Energy weapons, which will touch nearly every weapon currently in the energy lineup."

A smile spreads over his face as he thinks "very clever PGI, very clever. Incoming nerf is a euphemism for balance pass". You almost had me you sneaky devils. Well played, but not well enough."

Um... I enjoy the story... And also have this sneaking suspicion that those Mechs will have their quirks curtailed in lieu of an energy weapon balance pass. You say "nerf energy weapons" but I heard "nerf the quirks and buff the IS versions of the weapons."

So, yes, fear your purchase if you are buying for the sake of quirks. And fear your purchase if you are trying to buy a CrutchMech that's better than others.... Make your purchase if you want to buy something "Good," just don't expect them to be CrutchMechs that others will not be able to keep up with.

A player in chat yesterday was reasoning the ownership of his clan mech to salvage. I guess now he's being reenforced in his reasoning and at a lower price lol.

This is cool btw, not everyone own only the best mech and on both tech. I know ill spend yet more cbills.

IS and Clan camo patterns are not on sale
IS and Clan paint colors are not on sale.
I am disappointed.
Those would have been a good way to show your faction pride.

I am surprised that Night Gyrs wre not on the list at all...

I guess more people own Timbers, they've been around forever.

Anyhoo I may pick up a Mauler and Shadow Hawk 2D2. Think I've got the other ones that I would have been interested in.

YES! Being a cheapskate serves me well for the 2nd time this month! If only the GRF-3M was on sale, too...

Bud

Hellbringers are a pretty good mech, the ECM will keep you "off their radar" long enough to pop some rounds and pull back.

With the skill tree, it might even be a little tankier, which it needs...

Hunchback IIc with 4 High torso ballistics are pretty useful, but they have pretty big torso hitboxes, especially from behind...

You can run them with dual LBX20 (no ghost heat), Dual Guass (200XL and 7 tons of ammo), UAC/LBX10s, or my personal favorite 4x UAC2s

"CrutchMech that's better than the others"

Welp, there is a reason mechs like those above were played more than others. There is a reason that there is always a meta.

I for one have finally learned my lesson. I'm done playing to "lore", or playing to TT or playing to any others nostalgia based premise. I'm finally going to start playing what is good -in this game- and in this game there are most certainly "crutchmechs that are better than the others". To deny that is to deny the reality of this game. I have awoken to that reality.

The best part? PGI tends to nerf mechs other than those that are "better than the others". So I figure I can still buy a a couple meta mechs and not have much to worry about. Sure they smashed the Kodak, but the PPFLD capability of the Hunch IIc and the Night Gyr is unimpaired. So what the hell. Gimmie my "crutchmechs".

Yeah, but I only have maybe twenty mechs running STD engines. I gave all my XL mechs a good once over to consider where I could find tonnage for an LFE and honestly I can't see many of them changing. So the remaining maybe 15 or so that I will bother with right away will be a couple of the Thunderbolts, a Cent, a couple of Hunchbacks, maybe an Atlas and a couple Maulers (crits become the issue here), 1 Victor, and a few Cataphracts.

So I think I can buy a deck of Clan mechs (most on sale!) and still have enough for some engines and new tech to at least get some of my IS mechs transitioned to LFEs and new tech.

Can i sell my mechs back to PGI, i am pretty anoyed you thought messing it all up again would be good.
Instead of starting the concept of this game with some logic.

Time could have been spend in the last years on some collective FP content.

It has all gotten less amusing to play this., i think i gave up.

You are missing the Huntsman. I played mostly scouting missions during the event piloting a Huntsman and most of the other Clan pilots I saw were in Huntsmen as well.

I am suspecting they are intentionally leaving the newer mechs off this sale, partly because there would be a lot of butthurt from those that bought them full price in the past months...

The problem with the sale is ironically a fair number of these mechs post-Skill Tree aren't really as good.

That's my problem. After tinkering with several mechs and having some dismal matches, all I'm sure of is I don't understand this skill tree nonsense and I have no idea what makes a good mech any more.

So, how do I know if I should buy one? The real answer is: I shouldn't.
