What was your excuse for loosing the match after that one? When we were on opp sides?

I'm so glad that you brought that up. On the next match your side had 265 tons of advantage over us. That's more tonnage than all three of your Assault mechs put together. And even then your lance didn't do jack in that game. Here is a screenshot as proof. SEVEN Assaults vs. no Assaults and your side barely won by one ST blown mech.

So stop acting like your are hot, cause you are not. Your justification using this match's pathetic performance of your unit for the previous match is pitiful. Posted Image

Who did you blame on your team for that loss?
Your unit put up some great numbers that match but still came up short. What does that tell you? Your unit was the common denominator in both losses? Or did you get screwed by matcmaker? Or a little of both?

The truth lies in the middle probably.

I didn't blame anyone from my team cause we did great despite the low tonnage we had. Unlike your pathetic contribution in that Tourmaline match. Winning or losing was never the issue, as it is part of the game--it is more about how players like your lance who don't contribute with your 85 ton meta Assaults where they should.

It's ok though. Now that I know you and your lance will perform mediocre at best, I will simply keep that in mind when playing. The leaderboards stats of you says enough already.

I'm sorry to hear you had such a toxic experience, and you were right to report the players; one of the hardest things to overcome for me when I first started was how toxic the community can be and how unsupportive of new players some people are in-game (though then I discovered some online guides and youtubers who are really informative, check out Kanajashi, Molten Metal, and M4J35T1C on youtube if you haven't already).

The only thing I would disagree with you is a minor discrepency in terms of role; if you play as an assault mech, I believe that it is fair to ask you to be at or near the front lines, drawing agro and tanking damage, as the class you chose is much better suited to that role than other classes; similarly, if you are a light mech, it is also fair to ask you to do some scouting, for many of the same reasons.

To use a real world analogy, imagine we are playing a game of basketball. You are well in your rights to ask the tallest player on your team to guard the tallest player on the opposing team, as their physical attributes give them a chance while shorter players will just get dunked on. Now, can you force the tallest player to do that? No, of course not, but you would be justifiably upset when the game ended and the opposing team's tallest player completely dominated the court because no one of his size was guarding him (especially if the tallest player on your team had circles run around him by a smaller, more agile player).

Always remember, that while you have both the right and the ability to play any way you like, the game forces us into teams and it is in everyone's best interest to work together and cooperate.

Thank you for understanding.

I have to disagree about determining "roles" though.. You see, I believe "roles" are not determined by weight. Not in MWO.

Yes in single player MW games, but not MWO.

Why? Cose' MWO is a game where the biggest threat to an Assault is not another assault, but a lowly light. Any mech can kill any other mech in this game, with enough skill, teamwork and a bit of luck.

Assaults don't exist solely to negate enemy assaults. That train left the station back in closed beta.

Instead, roles are determined by loadout and skill placement. They are "Scout", "Brawler", "Sniper" and "Support".

The responsibility of each I would describe thus:

"Scout" - usually a light mech, but sometimes also fast medium. Its job is to find the enemy, pop UAV's, get and hold locks, harass enemy slow movers and protect against other scouts. In D&D terms, they are the Rogue.

"Brawler" - Frontline unit who's job is to engage the enemy directly, and deal direct damage, assisted by support and scouts. They are the main pushers and common unit. In D&D terms, they are the "Fighter"

"Sniper" - Long range damage unit, who's job is to soften up targets from long range and harass them, without taking damage themselves, or eliminate them completely, all while remaining unseen. In D&D terms, they are the "Sorcerer"

"Support" - Akin to artillery, support's job is to hammer the enemy hard when possible, control their movement and tactical options, and provide help to brawlers and sometimes scouts. In D&D terms, they are the "Wizard", hurling fireballs and entangling spells.

LRM boats fit the "support" role, and regardless of their size, THAT is their job.. The fact that they are assault class mechs sometimes only means they can deal out alot more punishment and take alot more damage themselves, before being taken out.

So, drop the illusion that "all assaults should be brawlers".

As long as I can kill a Direwolf with two alphas to the back form an Arctic Cheetah or a Locust, weight means absolutely nothing in this game.

P.S.

I've been playing my Supernova SNV-A alot lately. I don't know about others, but using its LRMs, I now regularly have matches in which I kill (and by kill I mean KMDD) other assaults, and lights equally.

My favorite kills include (but are not limited to):

1) An Atlas that tries to rush me
2) A locust that tries to rush me
3) An SRM boat mech.
4) An Irondome mech (3 AMS + ECM carriers)
5) Another SNV-A LRM boat.

I have killed all of these not once, but many times, often in the same match, and my damage / kill / KMDD output has become such that I could never match it in a brawler, and also such that I'm often the most damaging mech in the whole match (including enemy stats) by a landslide. (sometimes literally double damage of the next best guy).

My personal best has become absurd when it comes to QP (I have yet to test my 2 x SNV-A + 2 x ACH-PRIME dropdeck without being bullied and harrased).

So yeah.. I'm not gonna stop just cose' someone wants me to play a brawler I'm not nearly as good with.

Loosing NOT the issue?

Yes it was.
You HATE loosing.
And so do I.
Ive taken bad losses, caused bad losses, carried team to victory, got 8 kills and still lost the match. Group queue is a box of chocolates. All skill levels represented. Maybe one day the people I play with and myself will be as good as you at MWO, but I fear thats a high peak wayyyy in the clouds.

It is just a game. Your guys were the salty ones on tourmaline. So much cant be controlled, and then you play well and great individual effort still BEATS you.

What can you do?

Shake it off and jump back in.

And my Scorch is hardly META. 2ac10s, 4 srm4s, 2 small laser. Not great, but I like it.

See you on the battlefield.

As it shouldn't!

Though, if it makes you feel better, it is better practice to lead a charge with your Lights and fast Mediums because A.) they are harder to hit and focus consistently and B.) while everybody does that, the bigger 'Mechs have a more survivable opening to bring their heavier guns to bare. If the enemy stops dealing with the squishies to focus the bigs, they now have to worry about their backsides getting nibbled to death. Win-win for the team that lead with the sm0ls.

The thing is with PSR people are hitting walls even earlier, because they look and see that "hey, my PSR is growing, I must have l33t skillz already". And since they all reach tier.1 it only confirms their beliefs and adds to that illusion.

You guys should share your telepathic communication to the rest of the team.

You are playing this game since 2013 and still haven't figured out the fact that when your teammates are getting shot it is generally a good idea to shoot the guys who shoot them in return? ...

There are no excuses for that. You can always see that your team is taking fire. And you can always see where red doritos are on the minimap. You don't need anyone holding your hand and telling you what to do for that. Unless of course you are too busy herpaderping on spawn while admiring your lancemates painjobs.

Not paying attention to the minimap and where the enemy pings are on it.

Or even where the friendly pings are.....

In my experience, regardless of who pushes, it's important for the whole team to push with them.. Otherwise they just loose numbers to the enemy's firing line..

I still prefer to have an assault push the gates on Siedge, cose' he has more armor and a better chance of survival, but if it's not a bottleneck situation, light harassment is awesome to confuse and divide the enemy, and then have brawlers and support smash them to pieces.

Often times has a light been the doom of the enemy..

It all depends on strategy, situational awareness, and personal skill. I've led charges, and I've supported from afar, and I've motivated and commanded.. It's all very situational.

I'm playing on a few accounts, and honestly, i pretty much don't see any difference from an account that is T2 to one that is T1.

Paul has been quoted as saying everyone is expected to eventually hit T1.

There is no separation of skill, only larger exp bars. To gain X amount of PSR at T5 is precisely the same score as it is at T1.

As a "matchmaker", it was an easily built lie to temporarily make people feel good about things before time played inevitably slopped the less skilled players into the T1 shark tank, until it was so tainted with the blood of all the dead seals that it just turned into the stinking morass we have today.

To be honest, I have not noticed any change from T4 to the higher tiers.. not in skill or derpiness.. Sure, T5 still has occasional newbie who uses the pointer arrow and doesn't know how to aim.. but they also drop with T1s and T2s.. so still not much change.

in fact, T3 is I think the hardest, cose' they get to drop with everybody..

MechWarrior Online has the best match maker ever made. The trolls have been trying to get it changed since day one.

The really bads constantly talking about skill in this topic don't even know the meaning of the word. Those same really bads do however try very hard to make legit players feel less skilled or what ever, in game and on the forums.

If they did manage to divide up the queues more they would just swamp each queue in turn more easily really destroying gameplay, which is their goal. Old tactic.

The more difficult it is for them to make new accounts to troll the newbie queues the better.

Wait, you mean "start new account for free, deliberately skunk yourself through cadet bonus (who's gonna know?), begin seal clubbing" gets HARDER?

What ever they don't have to do anything special. Just proper player character creation and tutorial.

Well I mean it could be special. :) Depends how far they go with it.

They can't even manage a proper construction system, and you expect "player characters"? At least there's a tutorial.

None of that stops someone from tapping along with a throwaway email account and being tossed like the shark in the guppy pool. Bottom feeding in a F2P system is impossible to stop, because it costs nothing to be at the bottom.

The best you can do is make it tougher standards for each tier, meaning the seals don't end swimming straight into the sharks unless they can overperform their current tier. But that doesn't exist in MWO, only the illusion of being better used as a comfort until you're stuck with the real skilled players and the stick comes down.
