I think it would be fun. I highly doubt that a server let alone a PC could handle a battle of that magnitude. What they could do is have a bunch of 12vs12 matches throughout a week or two and whoever has the most victories wins Tukayyid.

I was always a bit gutted that you never found out who that was...

If they were going to do Tukkayid properly, they'd have to make a whole load of mechs that - AFAIK - didn't really exist anywhere else in the IS anymore (I'm thinking things like the Shootist, Excalibur etc). Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see those 'mechs in the game, but I just can't see that happening.

I think 12v12 battles would not be a good idea for several reasons:

1. It may be unfair if some players would have more superior 'Mechs and weapons.
2. IS warriors can barely do anything against Clan warriors in 12v12 battle (unless they are hardcore gamers). Bots on IS side would solve that problem.
3. In Battletech universe, IS defeated the Clan. Changing that would completely change the history and that must NOT happen. Even if Clan wins some or all matches, the outcome must still be same.

Most battles ,including THE battle, are made up of smallgroup actionss. 12 v12 gives one the chance to paly a part in these great events witout changing the overall outcome.

Sadly, I suspect that most of those who voted yes that want to participate in the Battle of Tukayyid are those who said yes simply because they assume that they will get a free win (on IS side). Those who argue for canon determining battles show that the IS players (and some Clan players to some extent) want easy wins, hence the liberal "entitlement" feelings that permeate every aspect of society.

There would be no point to this game in its entirety if outcomes are just "handed" to the IS side. Same thing for Clan side early in the invasion. I for one would like to see victories earned (by both sides), not given out like a government benefit.

While I know it's much farther off in the cannon, battling over the trial of refusal over the whole invasion would be more conducive to the current format we can expect for the matches. As it stands you'd need an engine like planetside has to pull off such a contest properly. Since that's not what this game is meant to be (thankfully). Let's worry about the clans whenever they show up. If anyone has the handle Phelan Kell, we know who the first casualty will be and can use that as an early warning system.

HOOAH BRO!! Yes, We want to shape that outcome, not participate in a fixed outcome! hehehhee

The battle doesn't even need to be canon - it could just be "what if" scenarios in case something ridiculous happens, like if the Com Guard wiped the floor with all the clans or vice versa. I'd just love to have the chance to experience it! And unlike many in this thread, I'd want to play for the home team.

Gogo ComGuards! When the time comes PGI should totally let the players sign up for the Battle of Tukayyid special event, with a free ComGuard paint scheme available once the event starts (and retained afterword for all who participated).

No, we would not "win" but they could make it a participation event and afterwards those that participated get goodies and titles and other things. Overall, PGI will retain control of all Cannon events and play them out as they should...we will merely be soldiers on the field.

Absolutely! I'd love it if they made it a week long event, where you had the option to do a "normal" drop or a Tukayyid fight. Give the Tukkayyid fights a 10% increase of earned C-Bills and XP or something. Barring that, have a drop where you can select several mechs, and as you lose each one you join the fight in the next one you had in line. It will still be 8v8, but each of those 8 players could have 4 mechs, making it a long lasting 32v32 mech scenario.

I'd love it if they did things like this for every major battle, not just Tukayyid. Make them events to join and play a part of, not just something to read about on the front page of the website.

Excuse me, but guys wake up ?!?

1.) nobody knows when and if this will happen.
2.) you talking about a fictive story in a fictive world and you want to take a role in it? Ahaaaa...
3.) Clan invasion? Sure, someday after the FPI Monster left the innersphere maybe.
4.) The Matchmaker is on your side! Tukayyid was deffinitly a 8vs8 fight!

...somuch stuff to settle first, not even worth making a poll for, I think. And the more hope you put into this Clan/IF stuff, the worse will be the wakeup.

My guess is: make the same pol in August 2013

First, PGI would need to have a little contest to pull the better players out of the pack to act as the ComGuard forces (I doubt they threw random pilots into the meatgrinder) to fight against the Clans (probably played either by AI, if its advanced enough to be a challenge, or played by PGI and pre-selected members of the community)

PGI would also need to make 7 different maps for the Clans' lines of attack and the ComGuards' to defend (12v12 of course)

Maybe all the other players could jump in and observe to see how things'r going (observing both teams, but unable to communicate except with other observers).

BUT, I don't get the feeling that PGI is too interested in possibly changing history (if the Clan forces succeed) and *cough* they may not be eager to put that much work into one major event (which I can understand).

So long as they focus on making the Clan mechs look sexy, figuring out the salvage system (so's I can get my damn MadCat and Masakari) and make the invasion frakking epic, I can live without Tukayyid.

But that's just me

As if anything remotely close to this is even in the realm of possibility for PGI.

If PGI get the underlying tech for the star map nailed (I'm imagining points of interest on a hex map and we fight to move borders), they could theoretically use a scaled down version for a campaign map (a hex map of a planet showing different terrain sectors) and the Battle plays out somehow... tricky.
