You would have a much better chance of coming back if it were 8v8, with less guns shooting at you. I had my best comeback games in the 8v8 days. Worry not, it is coming back! 8v8 is coming soon™...

Sorry but no 8v8 will be even worse. With less numbers every death matters more. If you get a disconnect and an afk you might as well quit.

I've been trying to just log off when I start feeling the need to get snarky in chat.

I just put on loud industrial music now so I don't have to listen to the voip chatter and I cease acknowledging the on screen chat messages and thus I don't bother replying to or starting conversations with others. You cannot insult or instruct stupid people into becoming smart players and the MM will never function as long as its tied to an XP bar regardless of how many (or how few) tier levels it spreads the teams across (its been 4 levels now since last fall, so if you're 1 you could have 4s in the match and if you're a 5 you could be playing with 2s) because so many players move the XP bar with dumb tactics and dumb builds.

The only way to sort properly I think would be based on WLR and KDR followed by mech weight classes. Of course that means all those players who camp behind the team to snipe and steal killing blows of targets others did all the work on will now get stuck together and won't that be amusing to spectate and see how their tactic works when everyone on the team is trying to do it also.

I played 8 v 8 throughout beta and carried disconnects many times. It's not the end of the world by any means.

Frankly a disconnect is preferable to a living tier 4-5 getting into my line of fire, stopping me from backing up, SHOOTING AND AIRSTRIKING ME IN THE BACK etc. etc. (all the awful things we've all seen them do).

In terms of every death mattering, at the moment in 12 v 12 it's very easy to lose 3 allies in quick succession near the start of a match if a particular lance stumbles into (or gets ambushed by) an entire 12 man enemy team. Boom, boom, boom, your team is now down worse than just losing a single suicidal light.

I think 8 v. 8 and 1 v. 1 could greatly alleviate the current MM frustrations.

I can carry 5 or 6 people. I can't carry 10 or 11.

The games were better, not worse. I remember. I played a lot of them.

Were they better because it was 8v8 though?

The thing that is broken is tiers. 8v8 will allow the MM to form matches that are closer together in terms of tiers but if tiers are broken will that even matter?

It was better for a few reasons.

It was more or less,slower and when I started,it was all basetech,no DHS,and UACs weren't a common thing,repairs were a thing too.

81kph wasn't something what you wanted in most mechs. You only went as fast as your slowest mech IIRC.

So what you are really saying is weapon changes have caused the kill speed to be faster, not the number of mechs on the field.

And you also just said that deathballing will be more common since the team will feel the need to stick together instead of having a few people spreading out on the flanks.

Yes and no.

At the time,we didn't have ghost heat, and at the time we didn't have VOIP. Lights had the lag shield too.

The time to kill dropped like a stone during then too when the Gaussapult was a thing because at the time and was easily capable of oneshotting lots of mechs(namely most lights, and the early Centurion).

Around then we got double armor, and shortly after we got 12v12 if I remember right. Then the TTK really dropped, then stabilized for a bit as heavier mechs with more armor started showing up. I also recall that there was a time DHS didn't work at all,and most folks just boated SHS.

Ghost heat became a thing after the ERPPC stalkers started showing up. That was mostly a troll build as it wasnt very good then because of the wonky hitreg on PPCs in general at the time.

Then the Clans dropped, and then TTK really dropped again for a bit, then Clans got nerfed(raged) and IS got buffed, over buffed, nerfed, clans got a couple little buffs here and there, and a bunch more nerfs. Then the IS was buffed and nerfed again etc.

That's pretty much what I figured from what I've read. The people talking about increased TTK in 8v8 are thinking of nostalgia and not actually looking at the game changes to the things that have decreased the TTK.

I'm for the 8v8 because the matches were slower.

You actually seen better tactics then too. I.e lights were ahead scouting, mediums forming on the flanks and heavies slightly ahead of the assaults.

It wasn't always a murderball,it was usually a decently spread out makeup. I didn't usually see a massive murderball fighting another massive murderball.

Or you'd see the squirrel light running around like a madman gnawing at someones ankles and running off.

You just described my fear. Because I enjoy playing medium and heavy mechs on the flanks and moving on the sides of the fight. You just described a deathball with no room for people to break off and engage in flanking.

Heh... last night.. played 2 FW matches.. Had a great match the first one on vitric. we were fairly unorganized, but so was the other team.. But enough folks worked together we pulled out a win.. The match was pure chaos, but a lot of fun. So much so i rolled the dice for another PUG FW match.

Team didn't wanna work together and we got steamrolled.. Then a few got spawn camped and would not tell us till it was far to late.. 4 or 5 didn't break 300.. Posted Image They were obviously new players.. But ahh well, at least i got a fairly decent match score to tack onto my total needed for the event..

Bright side wins again!

Not usually.

What happened was you ended up with a 2v2 situation most common. Or a 1v1 fight. People didn't always group up into a massive furball. It was usually mechs of the same group stayed together to cover each other as it meant more to lose 1 mech at the time.
