Here are the rules that you must follow (if you want to suceed):
Rule 1 - This is not a QP:
Forget about being a hero. If you die quickly your team has less armor to share. Stay close to the team but not too close. Make sure you provide enough space for your team mates to pull back. Blocking team mates is the same as shooting them in the back.
Rules 2 - Sell all of your lurm boats:
People complain running into teams. There are a lot of teams and 7 out of 10 times you will run into a team. A team will run optimised builds meaning - laser womits, surms or dakka (uac builds). This means you have to match their builds. Brinning a LRM mech means that you can't focus your damage (damage is spread over a mech), you tend to sit way back (don't share your armor and wait for a team to get locks not dealing the same amount of damage as the opposite side). If an enemy closes distance to you, you are dead.
Rule 3 - Share your armor:
Remember FP is not just about you but about a team play. If you don't share your armor you are letting you team down. Your team takes more damage and your team mates will die more quickly. Sharing armor is not the same as running into the enemy and diying.
Rule 4 - Learn to trade:
Trading means quickly poking around a corner and shouting your enemy with an alpha strikre. The key is to deal more damage than to receive. If you are losing a trade, move to another location or switch your target.
Rule 5 - Bring heavier mechs first and lighter mechs last.
Teams generally bring their heaviest mechs first. If you bring a light mech first you don't share armor with your team and you tend to do a lot less damage.
Follow these 5 rules and I promise you, FP will get easier and start feeling less scary.
