Well, look at it this way. You acquired all that extra mech XP because once you fully skilled a mech and became happy with the skill tree nodes you chose, now you've got nothing to do on that mech with that XP, right? So if you spend MC to convert it to GXP and put it on a new mech, you've essentially paid real money to put THAT mech in the surplus XP condition right away. What are you going to do with the XP it earns, pay MC to put it on another mech so that you can pay more MC again once you run it? Every mech you run will continue to gain XP forever...but once you hit your permanent 91 SP on it, it's best just to forget that XP even exists.

And yeah, champion variants with XP boosts are seen as a poor investment as well. The boost is only good until you've maxed your skill tree, and then you're stuck with a mech for which you paid MC for the dubious privilege of spending even more MC to convert its XP to GXP a whole lot earlier and more often. They are only useful on the rare occasions that we have an event that requires XP earned. We did just have one recently, but to be completely honest, XP is never the long pole in anyone's event progress tent. I have...two, I think, because I bought a couple of mastery packs and they are included with them, but I've never intentionally used them for their XP boosts.

Hmmm. Actually, what's really so bad about using MC to convert GXP, then the mech fills up with XP then moving that XP to GXP and putting it into another mech and so on and so on? I get to use my mechs at their fullest potential earlier and have fun quicker in shorter bursts than spending 3-4 hours a day grinding away.

I understand the rationale for not using real money to get something that can otherwise be gotten naturally, in this case XP, and saving MC for things that can only be bought using MC, in this case mechbays (outside of loyalty rewards), I just don't (yet) agree with the thinking. It doesn't have to be one or the other choosing between mechbays or GXP.

Maybe you're thinking that the loop of accelerated XP gain into a fully-skilled mech, is creating a loop of effectively paying to level mechs up. But the whole point of monetisation in a F2P game is to use money to accelerate progress, which is what I'm doing. Also if I can use a mech I'm good at to farm XP to pass it onto a mech I'm not so good at to make it slightly better via skill nodes, I think why not.

TBH if I could buy SP, I would. That is something that yet cannot be accelerated using real money afaik.

Well PGI, you won. My fiance saw the rewards thing and knew that I've been eyeing the Hellspawn so she got me the collectors version of that to reach your max tier. I love her to death, but sometimes she enables my worst impulses lmao.

(I think she just wants to see the demon girl standing cockpit item, it better be damn sexy PGI)

If you got the extra money to spend, feel free to do it. I do not believe though that any veteran pilot would endorse doing so.

In my opinion it is not worth it - levelling up 'mechs piece by piece gives you the opportunity to get better at piloting them while improving you as a pilot in general - especially if the 'mech is not a top tier chassis. Also it is quite satisfying if you manage to get a good score in a - let's say less efficient - 'mech.

And there are better uses for MC, bringing more bang for the buck - 'mechbays, heroes and then perhaps colors, patterns and decals. Finally, I believe that the exchange rate is not very favourable.

After 'mechs are mastered, the XP still has it's uses - if you change the loadout and need to re-spec the skill tree (or just figure out that you don't like your previous selections) you can use it to unlock new nodes or activate unlocked ones.

In addition to all that you accumulate GXP pretty quickly - I earned around 160+k GXP since the Skill Tree system has been implemented, and I don't have that much time to play right now. For example I believe buying 'mech mastery packs is essentialy a better progress accelerator - saves you c-bills that you do not need to spend to buy 'mechs and enables you to spend the surplus on weapons, other gear and skills.

P.S.: buying c-bills with MC is also not a good idea ;)

As I said, it's ultimately your decision. I just think that it's ironic that you want to wait for a sale on MC in order to spend it in a way nearly everyone considers frivolous. Best of luck, and I'll be bowing out on this part of the thread from now on.

Peace Posted Image I totally get that you guys have walked the path and are now passing on the wisdom. I'll have to think about it. Best case scenario get the smallest MC pack just to get the annual reward urbanmech.

The MC sale bit is simply to maximise the return, not to minimise cost.

all that this thing doe sis me not buying the NVA hero, because the NVA hero + the SNV ultimate pack bring me above other packs that are top reward qualifying but this buy of me would not qualify me, (despite spending more money) and so PGi just doesn't gets me "motivated" to grap some of their rewards by spending more money. The L variants will come for Cbills anyways, and the nVa hero isn't that amazing. grabbing both for that delta of buying the NVA hero would be nice, but anythign past it is surely nothing I want or need.

I think that even being "PGI" and having the "Piranha" as a possible mascot, It doesn´t have enought variants to be in a full Mechpack, and it's biggest strenght of MG spamming has already been covered by the new Myst Linx and Artic Cheetah variants (And more or less the new Jenner-IIC hero too).

If anything, I think the Fire Moth (Dasher) would be the most appropriate due to the uniqueness of it's speed, hardpoint omnimech variety and arms that could easily work like the armpods of a Raven, that if at least the game engine is made stable enought to feature a mech that can run up to 216kph with MASC, which seems possible for a game engine almost 20 years old yet impossible nowadays, the wonders of Lostech in Battletech I guess

https://youtu.be/DUTdif5WIeE

doesn't matter, look how many variants the SNV has gotten vs how many exist.

I am tempted to buy a Nightstar pack so I can qualify for the Loyalty Victor, since that Victor will have better hardpoints than any other Victor that is currently in the game.

ACK urbies now if it had JJ's and high explosives like the MW4 Mercenaries urbies I could fly and drop them on your head they had the power of like 10 arty strikes per hit. But you got blown out of the air 90 % of the time before you delivered your payload to a enemy mech.

Bu I feel like players who bought steam packs are being screwed out of the rewards and look at the steam pack costs? and they include both IS and clan mechs.

you can just spend the $15 for hero upgrade, if you only have standard packages, I think that does it too

Yeah. When I started playing MWO recently I was seriously contemplating buying the Light Perf Pack with the ACH in it. Instead I bought the ACH using c-bills from the cadet bonus, and bought the tournament support pack instead. Best decision I made so far.

Doesn't. Collector tiers do not stack with heroes and addons (which he'd need six of).

Question: Anyone know how often the qualifying page thing updates??? It's been 12 hours or so and still shows me unqualified for the Clan Top Tier.

I previously owned the Civil War Madcat MKII standard pack which I upgraded to collectors today. I also just pre-ordered the Piranha collectors pack which is suppose to count towards this now. This should qualify me for the Clan Top Tier rewards no?
