And yeah, champion variants with XP boosts are seen as a poor investment as well. The boost is only good until you've maxed your skill tree, and then you're stuck with a mech for which you paid MC for the dubious privilege of spending even more MC to convert its XP to GXP a whole lot earlier and more often. They are only useful on the rare occasions that we have an event that requires XP earned. We did just have one recently, but to be completely honest, XP is never the long pole in anyone's event progress tent. I have...two, I think, because I bought a couple of mastery packs and they are included with them, but I've never intentionally used them for their XP boosts.
Hmmm. Actually, what's really so bad about using MC to convert GXP, then the mech fills up with XP then moving that XP to GXP and putting it into another mech and so on and so on? I get to use my mechs at their fullest potential earlier and have fun quicker in shorter bursts than spending 3-4 hours a day grinding away.
I understand the rationale for not using real money to get something that can otherwise be gotten naturally, in this case XP, and saving MC for things that can only be bought using MC, in this case mechbays (outside of loyalty rewards), I just don't (yet) agree with the thinking. It doesn't have to be one or the other choosing between mechbays or GXP.
Maybe you're thinking that the loop of accelerated XP gain into a fully-skilled mech, is creating a loop of effectively paying to level mechs up. But the whole point of monetisation in a F2P game is to use money to accelerate progress, which is what I'm doing. Also if I can use a mech I'm good at to farm XP to pass it onto a mech I'm not so good at to make it slightly better via skill nodes, I think why not.
TBH if I could buy SP, I would. That is something that yet cannot be accelerated using real money afaik.
