Can't write exact name since I can be banned by merely tpying it, but there was a huge, gigantic Kickstarter by PGI for an MMO.
It was funded, but PGI never delivered it. I believed some people did get refund but not many others.
If PGI were to use Kickstarter again, this incident WILL come out and people won't support PGI.

PGI needs to make an exhaustive laundry list of changes before I consider paying for anything, and even then their asking prices are way too high for mech packs and such.

...I still wouldnt pay for it
to get me to spend even a bent penny on anything PGI would first have to show me they can fix everything thats wrong with MWO.
that means balancing the game satisfactorily (no were still not there yet), adding new maps/gamemodes that arnt just variations of skirmish, differentiating mechs enough so they dont just feel inferior to or exactly the same as other mechs, and adding proper role warfare and sensor/electronic warfare to the game.
but since thats never going to happen I guess I dont have to worry about it.

Theres definitely accountability. Nobody wants to fund their games anymore. lol.
Thats what happens when you tell your playerbase theyre on an island. They dont forget that !@#$ ever.

i seriously doubt they sold as many mechpacks this year compared to previous years
even the whales are reaching oversaturation levels for mechs owned, owning more has become pointless
the mechs simply arnt different enough that theres a reason to keep buying new ones
and PGI cant really powercreep new mechs just to sell mechpacks anymore, because thats caught up with them as far as balancing the game goes.
I foresee hard times coming for PGI. Especially if MW5 doesnt do well.

If they wished to do something similar with a 20 or even 40 USD price tag under the guise of "help support us in updating the game to a better engine for the ensured future of MWO" with more virtual goods being a part of it, and let's assume the goods had a substantial value... It could easily happen. Very easily.
Unfortunately, as we can see from the 2017 Loyalty rewards program in how it's handled for people who dump money on this game in comparison with how PGI would LIKE you to dump money on the game... The marketing department either needs help bad or they're simply working under some form of undisclosed duress. I can't think of what else it might be.

The idea that they need a kickstarter is absurd.

Also, as insurance of delivering on promises, If such a thing is not ready and in-game to a pre-set date, those that pledge should get a Hero Mech of their choice for free, plus an amount of MC equal to money invested + 50%.
Sounds fair?
Also, OP, don't ask bittervets if they wanna invest more money into MWO.. they are bittervets, and will never do that.. ;-)
