Within this post I will talk about the aesthetics of Mechs - how they LOOK, not how they perform - and how this influences my decision to buy or not buy certain mechs.
I do own a wide variety of mechs and do not NEED more - so my reason to buy mechs nowadays is: "Do I like the way it looks?".
A stupid reason, yes.
But I never claimed to be smart.
End of Disclaimer.
Dear PGI, I stopped pre-ordering certain mechs despite really wanting them, for a rather stupid reason:
I do not like the way you designed certain mechs.
You made me like mechs I originally would never have taken another look at - like the Catapult, Urbie, Cicada, Raven, Panther or Centurion - but now you are doing the opposite.
(Please do not consider this a rant, although I actually might spill some salt here and there; but my intention is really to give some feedback.)
It happens mostly with mechs that have a symmetrical design, even hardpoint-wise, but somehow you manage to make them look asymmetrical... in an odd sort of way.
And I am not talking about mechs like the Centurion or Panther, which are kind of asymmetrical by default. I actually am very fond of the Centurion and Panther, but thats a different story.
(I do have to admit though that I absolutely do not like the truly asymmetrical mechs, like the Thunderbolt or Summoner; but again, this is just how I feel.)
To give an example - the Cicada.
Used to have symmetrical energy-hardpoints in the side-torsos, now it just looks derp:

It just triggers my OCD - can't play this mech anymore.
The Zeus was one of my favorite designs, just by the looks of it.
Alex did his best to match and improve on the original art (and hit the spot right on, methinks).
Then you, PGI, realized, after modeling the mech,... that the arms needed some distance from the torso... and resolved the issue like this:

Mind the gap!.... I do.
(I am not even mentioning the first Catapult redesign, since you actually listened to the community and fixed it - VCR's, anyone?)
Then we got the Panther-Hero, the Katana-Kat.
I actually like the Panther, despite being asymmetrical.
But I was still happy to see you creating an actually symmetrical Panther, and pre-ordered it.
But after seeing what the actual mech will look like, I canceled my Pre-order:

... I would not have minded if the left arm would have been a straight copy of the right arm.
I actually do not understand why you did this, but I do not like it. Sorry.
Anyway, from that point on I stopped pre-ordering.
I would have liked to add the MadCat MKII to my arsenal - despite being a bad Assault-Pilot - but I decided to wait. Especially after noticing that the MadCat MKII-Hero would not have Missile-Pods, and the Concept-Art did not reflect that:

I am happy I did wait, because the MadCat MKII I fell in love with was the table-top miniature, that one on the left side:

I think it is one of the very few cases where the old art is actually better then your take on a mech.
Missile-pods are distorted, arms are just to big (yes, nice for shielding, but again, see the disclaimer), and the Torso just looks... bloated to me.
Thanks, I keep my money again; have plenty of other Assaults I am mediocre at piloting, and if I want to add something to my collection, I only do so if I like it.
Needless to say that I also did not pre-order the Nightstar, although I really really like your take on it. Again, I am happy I didn't, and I am not even talking of the ARM-aggedon (the low angled arms; I have to admit I kinda like the aesthetics a bit better with the arms pointing a bit lower).
No - I am referring to the placement of the side-torso hardpoints at the Nightstars that would feature hardpionts in BOTH side-torsos.
I was

But it dies.
Sssooo... I like the Piranha. And I have no idea how one could possibly screw this up.
But I am certain you will find a way.
Again.
I am really torn if I should pre-order it, despite my experience with your customer service, which I had to contact in order to cancel my Katana-Kat pre-order.
That being said: thanks a lot @ GM Patience for dealing with another dissatisfied customer without running amok... me. ;)
Anyway, thanks for reading.
I am not expecting anything to change, since I assume I am the only MWO-Player who buys mechs because he likes the looks, and is very specific about what kind of looks.
I just wanted to get this of my chest.
I apologize for wasting everyones time. -_-

P.S.: I have no idea where I should have posted this, so I put it into General Discussion. Move it into another forum, if necessary.
Or just wait an hour, until it is at page 2. ;)
