I think it will end up in a LRM boat role. Rarely on the lines helping in the pushes/brawls. Pretty much a slightly heavier Archer.

Best build for Thanatos will likely end up being heavy Gauss/heavy ppc flppd builds

thing a lot of people are forgetting is while it's a barn door from the front, the Thanny's pretty thin from the sides. only place this thing'll really be vulnerable is being shot in the back, because if you're facing it.. well... Thanatos have a lotttt of high-mounted forward-facing firepower.

Also, if it is that bulky, it may not stand very tall if the mass/volume rules are applied for sizing...

If fact, based on scaling the size of hitboxes may not be too bad relative to other mechs...

I mean, yeah, standing alone it could suck, but a whammer/hopper/BK/ may end up being an easier target simply by being taller...

Should be +20 armor on side torsos, otherwise its a waste of $$$ to get this mech.
But on the other hand, having torsos so huge, means nobody will ever score a headshot - they will aim always at torsos :D

This thing looks to have decent hard point locations.
It varies from a workable number of hard points though most variants are mixed
It has ecm and JJ.

Closest comparison is the Cataphract.
Cataphract has what appears to be mostly lower hardpoints. Fewer hardpoints on average. Only 1 variant with ecm and 1 variant with JJ. Cataphracts get 15 extra armor on its STs and 22 in the CT.

If PGI is even remotely consistent in its quirking trends then I suspect that the Thant will have fairly middling quirks but with the variants that have far fewer hard points (and especially mixed) getting a bit of a boost. I can’t imagine this thing getting defensive quirks on the level of a Cataphract and certainly not 20 points on the STs no matter how big they are.

It's definitely better than the Cataphract.

I hear the next map in development will involve multiple objects levitating just about mid high height for most heavies...

In other words, the Cataphract will finally have an advantage shooting from it's knees!

Looks really good. High mounts, its what we want. Glad I brought it now. Even with no quirks I'll be happy with it.

Man, the more I look at this thing, the more I am convinced that it will have minimal defensive quirks.

https://mwomercs.com...b09c6d8fb11.jpg

Just look at the height of those torso mounts. Gonna be a great pop tart. Can’t see PGI giving it much in the way of quirks based on their approach toward them over the last year. Hell with those hard points, plus JJ and ECM, they may end up nerfing it from whatever they do give it even before its available for cbills. Might have to give it a movement profile akin to the Night Gyr...but worse...since after all it has ECM (which is something they traditionally also use as an excuse to minimize quirks). Shudder.

Will it have the 360 rotation?

Hm. So 2 HPPC poptart with ECM on the Collector's variant is looking more attractive.

Lol no, why would it?

Because it had 360 rotation in MW4, its only other appearance. In fact, it was THE 360 rotation mech. The Thor had it, too, but the Thanny basically made it part of its identity.

Why couldn't you give the TNS-4S variant a pair of extra energy hardpoints, one in each side torso if these high mounts were going to be a thing anyway? Right now it looks like they won't match the concept art at all. Not to mention these "high mounts 1st" also further highlight how much better the hero is compared to most of the other variants to begin with.

Is this going to be a repeat of the Annihilator where the concept art torso energy mount locations aren't even used, but the big flat gaping holes where they are supposed to go remain on the model?

Not to mention how the Hero seems ideal for a variety of roles, laser sniper with ecm, or full ambush with the ecm and a fist full of rockets, with jumpjets to boot.

Exactly. Everyone pointing out the large side torsos as death traps, but I'm willing to bet the mech itself will work if you play it like a Cataphract (queue sad trombone noise for audience satisfaction)
