I actually really wanted another PGI-made mech, but hey, good on you for somehow knowing what everyone wants.
Would you still be complaining if this was 80 tons? Especially considering how relatively crappy the Phoenix Hawk IIC would be. I'd rather have an 80-ton version of this than the Gladiator or the PHX-IIC.

For those who were questioning it, I understand the marketing appeal of things like the Annihilator, Hellspawn, Uziel, etc. They're memorable 'mechs that people spent a lot of time piloting (or assigning to a lancemate) in the earlier MechWarrior titles. It would honestly be okay for them to keep that trend going, as there are a lot of 'mechs on both sides of the conflict that have many loyal fans already and which aren't yet in the game. Critical Rocket made a video daring PGI to prove him wrong by adding some of the missing 3025 'mechs (such as the Crusader, which has been talked about a LOT in here).
Creating their own 'mech is really only going to sell to the people who are out to buy every single 'mech with real money anyway, and the only way to entice people who aren't as spendy is to make brand new 'mechs a little more powerful than their tonnage counterparts (hence all the high mounts on this and on the Roughneck).
I vote that they work on adding some of the thus-far excluded 'mechs that have a large fan following (forum surveys are an easy way to figure out which ones those are), and I want to see new-tech variants of existing 'mechs added, too. At a much faster rate than 5 loyalty 'mechs per year. They could sell an "Expansion" pack that includes new variants. If they include the DWF-C, then they're guaranteed to at least sell that pack. (Who doesn't want ECM on a DWF?)

At 70 tons, this mech doesn't really bring anything new to Clan drop decks. While it does have more dakka (points there, too) at the end of the day I think I would still rather bring either a EBJ or a TBR to faction play and, with our drop deck weight restrictions, that's where we need the most help.
While the Piranha is going to be a fantastic addition to the clan roster, both the Black Lanner and Sun Spider are little more than lip service filler mechs to keep Clanners from complaining about their lack of available chassis. A better choice for the Black Lanner would have been the Pouncer (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Pouncer) which, at 50 tons, would have actually been viable in scouting. This last failed abortion would have been much better off being replaced by a Phoenix Hawk IIC that would have filled a serious hole in Clan drop decks for faction (only 80 ton mech we have isn't worth bringing).
Short and sweet is, if you're going to claim to be here for the BATTLETECH community and provide a game for BATTLETECH fans, quit telling them to "Go **** yourselves" after YOU ASKING for their opinions and them giving you honest answers. Quit feeding the lowest common denominator of frankly unwanted CoD Jockies, who never would have even know about this franchise if not for the steam release, and start living up to your promises to the real heart of the MWO community.
P.S. WHERE IS MY ******* HAG?!?!?!??!
Hey, we did ask for Solaris and we are getting it! Everything I wanted (except for melee :-( ). Hey, Duncan Fischer for announcer!

It actually does make some sense, simply because the whole "revisiting an old flawed chassis with new tech to get it working" is something that goes all the way back to the Scorpion (ironically given a smoother ride because someone found the old boondoggle Scorpion LAM and applied it's improvements to the rough-riding original).
As a common ride with all those variants though? Overdoing it.

My only dislike: the overused Phranken pattern for the early adopter unlock. Can we please have some of the patterns that haven't seen a lot of use, like Fractal, or Virus, or Snowfall? Even Urban Block would be something different.

Two of the three are pretty easy to explain: Annihilator was prominently featured in MW3 and Uziel was both the starting mech and featured in the box art of MW4: Vengeance, thus qualifying as iconic mechs. Annie's ability to mount 4 big ballistics makes it one of the less-****** IS assaults, so it's got that going for it too. Hellspawn is pretty lame, so PGI can provide its own excuse if it so desires.

So tell me Mr. Whiteknight what great insight lead you to believe that I have financial issues or "mech envy" of any kind? Why do you feel the need to respond to a post directed at PGI? This game's development/progression is severely hampered by all the white knighting and yesmen (and women) who support everything PGI does blindly...its ok to be critical, its ok to have an option contrary to the status quote or to question if things could be better by changing something.
If you read my post, I did say "...or you can, but can't rationalize spending that kind of money on it". And yes, this is my opinion, which just happens to be counter to your opinion. Really, it just boggles my mind that people get upset about how other people spend their money.

It would've been funny if you would get the MechCon pattern for the preorder of that thing. Kinda fits the theme.

i like how you put the sarna link in then said it was 50 tons, when it clearly says 40 on the wiki

As someone already mentioned it: Until now they brought only 1 PGI Design per Year. All other Mechs came from the Franchise we all love. I dont really see a problem with that as others would say. Sooner or later you get your shiny Mechs too that you wish (i want my DEIMOS! Raaaaaagh!) in MWO. For my personal opinion i dont like the Design but i still can give PGI some Points to try at least some new Designs. If you dont like it then dont buy it, but they at least tried.
And about the Vote: Maybe this isnt the Mech we wanted but the next one is it? Because i suspect they have this Mech for quite some time now under development. At least thats what i am thinking about.

Which, if you read your own post, is exactly what you did...get upset at someone for how they choose to spend their money! Even worse you tried to rationalize it by making the assumption that anyone who doesn't spend their money freely on whatever PGI throws at us is either "too cheap" or just "whining" about early access. So, I guess you boggle your own mind...which explains a lot, lol! GG Mr Whiteknight

Also, I don't think it's been posted yet, but cheers PGI for the upcoming holiday rewards announced from Mechcon, real nice and a lot more than I was expecting.

Theorycraft, my guy. The Sun Spider does a bunch of builds that are fairly unique to itself among the Clan heavy lineup. For example, dual arm mounted LBX20s with ECM (I might be wrong on slots, but it can still do UAC/20s which is still damn good), 6 ATM6's with decent speed and ammo, or a mixture of heavy larges/mediums and mass HMGs. It can also do Streaks like the Mad Dog on a tougher frame with potential for some nice backup weapons, maybe even a big ballistic. Nothing is truly unique as is in MWO with how mech customization is done, it's more about the individual flavour of the mech.
The SNS will probably be squishier than the Summoner with less poptart options, but faster and brawlier than the Nova Cat. That's a fair niche for Clan 70s. The IS 70 range already has these categories and distinctions.

It is, actually. Try 2 HLL and 4 ERML with stock D omnipods on the Gargoyle, it's a competitive variant. Alternatively, you can run 6-8 MPLs with the new side torso omnipods, or mass splat with the hero. I'm not trying to be patronizing, but it feels like a lot of Clan players don't experiment too much, because they're hard pressed to try mechs that aren't the Ebon, Hellbringer or Mad IIC. Until the last couple months, I barely saw Linebackers in faction play, and now LBK pushes are stomping IS pugs left and right.
