This... Also, does anybody really care? With only about 2000 players playing at any given time, is being the "Champions" of that small of a player base really anything to brag about?

And then they point out the thousands in prize money.

Money matters. Prizes attract people who want to win them, thus fanning the flames of PGI's dream of esports.

I didn't know Natasha Kerensky was a furry, but I guess it's Clan Wolf...

Welp this isnt the thread i started. Regardless of your personal issues and opinion of another unit, you're not going to gain any traction going full donkey-head about things. This is the internet, and even more than that this is MWO forum where these kind of crapon tirades are not permitted.

I started this thread with the intention of it being a play by play of sorts of yesterday's event, as well as a place to discuss the championship.

Autism aside, that does not give one the excuse to blemish others because they endured a negative interaction (or a percieved one).
It's called life skills; try to focus on being positive/optimistic rather than negative/pessimistic, as life is too short to waste on being angry about ****. We very fortunately live in a world where you can escape reality for that short bit and simulate aspects and activities that will never reach fruition in our life times, if ever. Try to focus on the positive stuff and block out the bad. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but raging about it is not going to help, only exacerbate it. Peace Ark.

Really, most of the bad apples ended up in CSJa. They were such bad apples that they couldn't even keep their own team together to finish MRBC7, and I don't even know if CSJa is even a thing anymore.

Wasn't it CSJ that had members at MechCon, **** talking the rest of their unit while being interviewed?

The simple fact is you don't get cheered for by the population in general because you've MADE people not like you.

I'm pretty sure the reason why not many people got cheered is because viewer investment in the MWO tournament is absurdly low and no one really cares. It's not like the other two teams were getting roaring support through the whole thing.

Pretty sure most of the people I watched the tournament with only were rooting for EON because they were the underdogs and them winning would have been marginally more interesting than EMP sweeping again (No Offense to EMP intended).

Don’t listen to Asym mods!
This thread is great. Very entertaining stuff.

As to the assertions being made against Emp, I can only say that I’ve played this game for about three years now and I regularly encounter a few or more of their unit members on a weekly basis and occasionally several times a night in group queue. I have never in all that time seen them type in all chat or state in voip anything mean, hurtful, antisocial or -ahem- Richard Cameron-ish. Not even a git gud in a 12-0 stomp. If anything as repeat world champs I would expect at least a bit of attitude and even some ego on display and thus far have just never seen it expressed. Their humility is fairly refreshing imho, especially given how the internet typically brings out the worst in many folks.

Congrats EMP and not just for the MWOWC win.

I've always enjoyed running into the emp guys in game and occasionally hanging out in their twitch streams.

I was rooting for them to win this time around and pretty sure there were many others rooting for them as well.

They won because the hard work they put in elevated them from talented players into a great team. GG and WP!

Not a complete breakdown but some good commentary and discussion on some of the mechs and the ins and outs of why they took some specific builds, etc. via Reddit:

Champions should be to get their **** together on Any maps not just the easy mode ones.

All this does is say they're champions, in a niche game with a minimal population.

There isn't an fps out there where the best pro team is the best on all maps. For example SK in CSGO are terrible on Inferno compared to a lot of the other teams. They are still the best team in the game though.

I know that if I were going to a world championship at something I'm proud of I'd tell my family to piss off, I only get approval from the company and accolades of strangers. Also how are you supposed to cruise for nerd chicks with your spouse/girlfriend/parents there.

Why else do people go to cons?

I go to cons with my girl friend and our daughter.

It's my G.F that points out the hot chick in the manga costume, that failed a pantie check.

Which may explain the 17 years of a blissful life together, as I'd miss it being far to busy doing nerdy things..

Well I have zero interest in PvP outside of M.W.O so i haven't a clue whom SK are, and don't need to be enlightened, but it doesn't matter which game or whom.
If they can't win on any map they don't deserve to be champions.

We don't see NFL teams being 'world champions' but only playing on turf, they're expected to win on grass to..whatever the weather, and whatever the altitude.

Patriots aren't Superbowl champions only at sea level and on grass are they..

Within the relevant population, sure. If you win your fantasy football league you’ve got bragging rights. No one outside your league cares, but that’s a given. No one outside of the MWO community gives a flying f about this, but we are here on an MWO board.

NFL fields are all regulation sized, your comparison is off. Different turf, weather etc is like dealing with different temperatures. Playing on Canyon is like "heat neutral", while playing on Tourmaline is "hot". If you don't think EmP are Champions, make a team next year and compete
