I actually felt bad for Russ. You could clearly tell he hoped for more enthusiastic responses from the audience at times, even reshowing a clip for just that. The crowd was probably just tired and in the mood for a snack.

Maybe dont wait until the very end of Mech Con to make the announcement? Or even make the stream 8 hours instead of 12 and let the people there walk around and play the demos for the last few hours?

I heard a rumor Mechcon 2018 was going to be in the USA so the Battletech Pods could be at Mechcon ;)

The closer to Michigan the better :)

No Paul told one of the 228 members it is far cheaper for them to do it in Vancouver.

From a stream perspective

I enjoyed it over all, I appreciate all the work PGI put into it. But here are my suggestions for improvements.

1. I know you guys love Tina, but she was cringworthy doing interviews. She has never been a great at interviewing people and this was worse than the old dev vlogs. Let Phil and/or Bombadil do it they were much easier to listen to.

2. I agree with the comments on Russ's. I mean he did need to be all Dapper like Paul, but comparing him to how the Mitch and Jordan looked he just looked sloppy and the presentation was poor.

3. I think it is time for some new blood in Casting. Most of the time it seemed that Bandit was just bored up there, MDM was ok, The opening before the first match was very low energy. I think it would be nice to see someone else's perspective on casting, or have 2 more casters and rotate between them.

4. Change the setup for the tournament, I know that the players could see and hear the casters, and the teams could hear each other. Put the casters in another room or a sound proof booth or something, hearing that a team is dropping with Assaults on alpha or their lights are moving through some map quadrant is giving away stuff to the other team.

5. Map rotation, I like the idea of once a map is chosen it is gone for the rest of that drop. As far as all Random and those saying it was not real skill, not real MWO. I doubt you would see any real different play if it was completely random. All the teams are good at all aspects on all maps.

6. Like other said there was a lot of dead time, and it seem to take to long to get matches going, and I would not let people get up in between drops that happened a few times.

I enjoyed the.matches, but frankly I want to see more mech combat and less air strike warrior. What does everyone think about eliminating strikes entirely from tournament play?

For Mech_Con 2018, have the entire event in Chicago.

I wish I was clever enough to start this rumor!

Alas, I am not.

That said, BattleTech pods could totes make it to Vancouver with enough planning.

Honestly, I really just have one nitpick for the Solaris mode.

The Jungle is the Liao Arena. the one that was shown for 1v1s during MechCon was labelled "Lyran Jungle."

The Steiner Coliseum is the only Lyran Arena. each District of Solaris City has their own Arena.

Boreal Reach is the Davion one.

The Jungle is Liao.

The Factory is Marik

and Kurita have Ishiyama, which is a Man-made Mountain with a high-tech system for simulating almost any environment.

And of course, Steiner have the Coliseum/Stadium, which is pretty much based off the Roman one.

Thanks Matt for taking the initiative on this.

My advice for the next Mech Con:

2. Remove maps from rotation once used. Real WC Mechwarriors should be able to win on any map.

This has been my thought all along. Don't even let them choose. So they have to balance their drop decks for all possible outcomes. They play the same maps with the same strategies over and over. It would be nice to see them be forced to play random maps. We all know they are extremely good, I've faced many of those names over the years and I know how good they are. Lets shake it up some!

Also, why didn't pgi make different "consumer" versions of the jerseys the 3 teams had, having the opportunity to buy an empyreal shirt and then get it signed by the team would have been sweet!! And if the funds went to the teams directly that would make a lot of people happy.

But the food was great, could have used to bar space to eat it though.

But I'm with everyone else on the map selection issue, needs to be more mrbc based, where this is the maps you play, tough ****.

And for gods sake please fix comp play with a tier system like mrbc, my div e team playing div a teams is not fun for anyone. Or just support mrbc more...?!

Had a good time though, will go again

I'd like to see far fewer of them in everyday play, also.

Cons:
-Getting into MechCon. I was wearing shorts and a T-shirt. I wasn’t planning on getting shuffled outside for a good 30 min.

-Drinks this year (Extremely limited, couldn’t even get a Long Island, I settled for Rum and coke. She poured Pepsi and didn’t even ask if that was because they didn’t have coke Posted Image)
.

well the first point was your own fault. T-Shirt and Shorts? In December? IN CANADA? you walked right into that one Posted Image

coke is coke. there is no difference at all besides the name. i never tasted any difference at least.

EDIT: changed Kanada to Canada. Damn you, german language!

To Matt, Tina, Chris, Russ, Paul, Bryan, and everyone else at PGI who organized and ran Mech_Con this year; to Daeron, Phil, Ben, and Mike and the rest of those who directly supported PGI in pulling it off, great work. There were some significant improvements over last year, and some things to learn from and try to do better next time around.

To the guys from Catalyst Game Labs and Harebrained Schemes who presented a few details about their upcoming products (and to PGI for MW5:Mercs and bringing Solaris 7 to MW:O), you all have me more excited for the BattleTech Universe than I have been in over a decade. It's a great time to be a MechWarrior.

To the MechWarriors from Empyreal, EON Synergy, and my brothers in Black Watch, it is always supremely impressive to watch the best teams in the world compete against each other.

To George Ledoux, Randall Bills, Jordan Weisman and the rest of the BattleTech luminaries that have stuck with it all these years, thank you for bringing back so many memories.

The goods:
- Locating the convention in a hotel was a good call. Being able to run up to my room to drop off t-shirts, my copy of the MW4:Mercs manual (now signed by George Ledoux), etc. was super convenient. I guess I could have done the same with the bag/coat check, but that's a little detail.
- The food was SO much better (I know it was catered by the hotel, but still).
- The merchandise available was better. I know that predicting sales for physical goods is difficult and that your license is limiting, but I would really like to see more variety in the types of things available.
- CGL releasing two new boxed sets with updated rules, nine beautiful minis (ten, if you count the WVR in both), and a handful of really good maps will definitely convince me to try and reintroduce BattleTech to some of my friends.
- MW5:Mercs looks amazing and plays really well already. I hope the story will be able to carry the game beyond random-ish missions. I know there's a fair amount of the community that is really excited for mod support ... I'm excited to see what they can come up with. You almost brought a tear to this old cynic's eye when you announced co-op ... twice.
- Solaris 7 will add a new flavor to MW:O, even if it is at least eight more buckets (each 'mech tier and 2v2).
- Great to meet so many of my brothers and sisters from the 228th IBR. Including friends and family, I'm pretty sure that we were the best represented unit at the event. (And thanks to Iron Kilo and Mrs. Kilo, we were also the best-dressed.)

The not-so-goods:
- The door crew did the best they could, but the wait to enter was significant. Allowing us to get our badges and wristbands in the lobby for a couple of hours before the event would have alleviated this somewhat.
- The Q&As and Meet-and-Greets need to be deconflicted with the tournament. As a competitive player and a fan of the game and the BT universe, I should not be forced to choose.
- The Q&As should be streamed and done from the main stage.
- Too much dead time between main events. Too much dead time between individual tournament matches. (EON, I love you guys, but you should not have been allowed to leave the stage between drops.)
- The tech support area divided the room in two and didn't really allow spectators to watch from in front of the stage.
- Not enough seating, even after the guys from HBS got the Pinnacle to break out more chairs.
- For HBS, I would have liked to have seen more new stuff about BattleTech. Watching Mitch and Jordan play was fun, if cringe-worthy, but it didn't really show us anything new.
- The monitors outside the main room should have had audio.

Things to think about for next year:
- In addition to the MW:O World Championships, how about the Solaris 7 Grand Championships?
- Invite Iron Wind Metals to come, roll out some new product, and sell some minis?
- Give Russ a bit more time to prepare for his presentation. It seemed like it was rushed to production.
- After a map is chosen for a WC round, it can't be chosen again that round.

Thanks again. See you next year.

Hello everybody.

How about simulcasting on Youtube.

Why?

The codec and the player from Twitch are seriously not adequate. I can't watch Twitch for more than a minute even at 160p.

I know, not your fault. not blaming. Asking for a little consideration.

With my crappy internet I can watch Youtube at 360p just fine. Can't watch Twitch even at 160p.

So I missed pretty much the whole thing.

And please don't try to blame me. I live out in the country (not even my cellphone can play the video). I have to go into town to play.

Have to admit, after watching the stream replay on twitch, the two most offputting factors were -

1/ large sections of the replay muted by twitch (probably due to music copyright conflicts) basically the last 3 hours of the replay were unwatchable.

2/ Russ Bullock - he came across on stream as disinterested in the whole affair and showing no excitement or enthusiam at all for the announcements. Additionally, there was no real build-up to what was essentially a keynotes presentation by him. I feel the whole production crew let him down in that regard - there should have been a build up throughout the event to his presentations.

With the new patch notes dropping today, it's almost as if Russ knew the clan side of the community was going to be out for blood. Seriously PGI? Directly buffing 5 IS mech chassis's and IS HMGs while nerfing all Clan MGs? When will the bias in favour of IS end? Even the announcement of the freebies on the 27th doesn't make up for this completely biased balancing against Clans that has been going on all year. When are IS RACs going to be nerfed down from God-Mode?
