Previously, it was much more fun on this map than on the new one. Everyone knows the point where the battles take place on the new map. Skirmishes and in half are not as fascinating as on the ring above the lava. Right?
The new Terra Terma is one of the least selectable maps. I believe that you need to add that map to the game under the working title "Old Terra Terma".
Please support my proposal and share it with the rest of the players.

I would like to see an alternate Terra Therma where there is snow away from the lava and the temperature changes drastically. Would make positioning very important.
I would much rather have the old frozen city, forest colony, and forest colony snow.

Another thing they should do (but won't, because it'd make slow mechs sad) is to use the full amount of available territory on the maps instead of the less than 50% we can use now.

this would be great but they would have to go back to random map selection....which would also be a major improvement.
map voting is still one of the WORST things they ever put in the game.

because too many can't deal with the heat, but that shouldnt be a reason, the map vote was bad anyways.it took a lot time i spent in MWo away because the same stupid maps over and over again -.-
Dunno why people even want more maps if they vote for the same 3 ones all day. So gone with map vote, we are mechwarriors and not the ones deciding the battlefield we get deployed uppon.

The rest of the map, however? Gorgeous. I liked old TT aside from the Caldera.

I don't think that heat is the problem. Tourmaline for example is highly popular and the new Rubbelite does not bad either while the cold Alpine gets picked almost as rare as Terra.
In my opinion the problems are more:
- Very dark theme
In my experience most people prefer bright environments and good visibility. Terra is the darkest map so far and has quite bad visibility. Even Mining Collective despite having a dark background too sports much more lighting on most structures and better visibility. And on HPG those structures are so brightly illuminated that it would not be wrong to even speak of a bright map. - Heavy focus on G7 / F7 area without enough room to fight.
In most modes teams meet in that area but have not much tactical choices because the area is surrounded by massive unpassable mountains. The only flanking possibility is through the 8-line, everything else often takes too long even for fast mechs. While most other maps are centered around one location too, they at least allow for much more movement.
That said i really hope that the new Solaris city map has a good geometry because it's darkness will probably have a negative impact on it's popularity so it needs at least good gameplay.

I would love the old maps back too, especially old Forest Colony was much better in my opinion than the new one.
How much of the map is used is dictated by the game mode. I think Conquest does the best job here. Incursion as well as Escort both look like they have been designed with a wider map-use in mind too but still leave something to be desired.

I think you might misunderstand me. I'm not talking about how much real estate sees combat and movement. I'm talking about a 10x10 grid map having an actual playable map on 40 to 70% of that. Which is naught but BS. "Look at this massive new map!" Yeah, massive new map with a third of the possible real estate being "out of bounds."
EDIT: An example.
See all that unused map? A few small changes, and we could have twice the map to play on. Heck, they could have given us twice the map from day 1.

Edit: Now that you added an example keep in mind that probably not everything you see on the battlegrid is actual modeled map. You can be pretty sure that most of that unwalkable area is fake and not even out-of-bounds area. An 2D artist most likely simply painted the area to fill the box to make a nice battlegrid-image.

Nothing they couldn't solve with a bit of resource allocation. But no.

In fact I want all the old maps back: Forest Colony, Caustic Valley, Frozen City, Terra Therma. River City is alright I guess but I miss the orange, smoky, hazy day version we had.

But why should they allocate resources if most current maps are already big enough for 24 players and already contain significant walking times? By only enlarging the maps players would still gravitate to the center or old landmarks like the Citadel in River City. Without better game modes to fill the huge area with purpose we would just waste more time getting to the well-known front.
And even with such modes there is a limit on how much walking through landscape the average player will endure.

It all doesn't matter much, since the old one wasn't played at all, and the new one isn't played at all.
Remove map voting and then this conversation is relevant.
