Why does it matter how old the topic is if it's still relevant?

I think folks are just pointing out things that MWO developer had not handled yet,
despite forum postings that are a few years old (!).

==>I think that Atlas in particular has need to improve on weapon hardpoint flexibility.
For example, it would be brilliant if:

~Atlas has variant(s) with ballastic hardpoints in both its LT & RT [similar to KDK-3], OR
~Atlas has more energy hardpoints in both its arms (3-4 energy hardpoints in each arm, similar to KDK-3).

~Also, Assaults in general need faster torso twist so that it can protect CT. It is too slow currently.

~This is from someone who hope(d) to use Atlas as main Assault mech, one's favorite!

PGI wants it this way.

Buy "Boar's Head" Hero Atlas.

It has three energy hardpoints in the left arm and three energy hardpoints in the right arm.

Since we've drawn attention to a nearly decade-long problem...

Hardpoint futzing only makes the Atlas an also-ran candidate in the obsession over symmetrical giant weapons. But as pointed out above, the Boar's Head does this with energy — and nobody drops in a Boar's Head with any regularity. (For that matter, nobody regularly drops in Kodiaks, either.)

The problem has always been silhouette, driven home in the MC Mk. II era of the game.

Atlases are giant targets stuck with tabletop armor rules. Since December 2013, half of its weaponry has been at the mercy of side torsos so large that even 30 points of bonus armor isn't enough. (Hilariously, some still have structure quirks instead.) The thing looks like a juggernaut. It should play that way and go head-on with any mid-range or brawling assault. Throw out tabletop and apply armor that fits the geometry. Don't be afraid of big numbers; it's a giant, giant target. Just edit that .xml, man.

I would also wax the Atlas while we're at it.

What is the point of locking a relevant thread? Do you seriously have nothing better to do than trolling real issues? Grow up.

its basic forum etiquette to not nekro threads.

to quote a lemmyism: "manors are free, broken bones are expensive."

"Basic forum etiquette" does not apply to relevant issues. Is that hard for you to understand?

the atlas is fine. there are other old mechs in much worse places than the atlas.

the thread is obsolete.

That's your opinion, not mine. It is not for you to say how I conduct myself on these forums. Please go away troll.

In the "SPAMMING/TROLLING/UNCONSTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR" section of the MWO: Code of Conduct, I found these bullet points about what not to do:
  • Creating forum threads about existing topics.
  • Creating duplicate or similar threads about an existing topic for further discussion in more than one forum.
So you see, I am clearly right to bring this discussion up again in the manner I chose to do so. Why create another topic about it when this thread already exists, especially since it is against the CoC? Please stop derailing the thread or I will be forced to report you.

i never told you what you can or cannot do on this forum. nor is it your place to tell me i cant make a suggestion that an old thread be retired. while the coc does say its inappropriate to create duplicate threads, i do believe this is in the context of spamming. creating a new thread to replace a long dead and buried thread is totally fine as long as the intention is not spamming.

You and I can go around in circles all day long about this. The issue is not relevant to you obviously, but it is to me and others. No need to create a new topic when this thread exists. It's a very simple concept that you seem unable to grasp, or maybe you enjoy arguing over nothing. The Atlas needs to buffed, whether you think it does or not. That is why I posted in this still relevant thread.

Also, you did tell me what to do: stop posting in old threads. I wouldn't bring up old non-issues, but this topic is something that still needs to be discussed. Surely there are other, more pressing matters for you to focus your energy on instead of derailing constructive threads, regardless of their age.

I don't want to play a Mauler. All I really want is for the AS7-KR have 1 ballistic hard point added to the left torso for build diversity. The Atlas was my first 'mech I bought with my Cadet Bonus way back in 2013, since then so many Assaults outshine it in nearly every department. All variants of the Atlas need to have a hard point rebalance and structure quirks switched over to armor quirks. I'm completely fine with speccing into the mobility tree for the extra agility people are complaining about. Hmm, too bad you couldn't change up hard points in the skill tree...

Actually this shows a lack of understanding.

The Atlas is one of the oldest mechs in the game.

i dont even think there are any atlas variants in lore that have the configuration you want. at least none on sarna. if they ever do one its probibly going to be a new variant (if they do any new variants). there is the as7-k2 jedra, which has an lgauss in each arm. srm4s in each st and an erml in each torso. but its a rebuild 3084 variant. would make an interesting hero variant though.

Anecdotal evidence.

You don't want to see what's considered upper tier by my stats...
