im still confused as to what stealth armor actually does to make it worth it

it makes you invisible to turrets and thermal imaging on certain maps at night and uavs and you cant be targeted under 200m? but they can still see you on seismic... and if youre within 200m and out in the open they can certainly see you with their eyes unless theyre BLIND.

and thats somehow worth 12 crit slots, 75% sensor reduction, and not being able to dissipate heat? plus the tonnage you lose by not taking ferro.

but ECM makes you invisible from 200m+, also gives stealth to teammates, does some other stuff too, and is only 1.5 tons and has no downside?

I dont get it

Seems like ECM shouldnt grant stealth at all. And stealth armor should be the only way to get stealth, but stealth armor should stealth you at all ranges not just under 200m.

Khobai stealth armor makes it so the attached mech will not show on sensors at all(even with BAP, and ECM counter), except for seismic, and you can not lock on to that mech while stealth armor is active(TAG might work, NARC might work, PPC effect might work). As for the heat you do not dissipate heat but you gain heat while active, rate of heat gain is affected by the map. Stealth armored mech on the cold maps however will not gain heat as long as they were at 0 heat when enabled (Alpine/Grim Plex/etc).

Stealth armor only works if you have an ECM equipped and in distrup mode, so you still give your allies ecm bubble.

yeah I know what stealth armor does. its the worth of stealth armor im questioning.

im just trying to figure out why ECM still does way more for way less drawbacks.

stealth armor doesnt really seem worth it. you can just take ECM and avoid getting closer than 240m. and its basically the same thing.

ECM really should not grant stealth is my point. it diminishes the value of stealth armor. stealth armor should be the only way to get stealth.

I put it on my Assassin and I stood right in the middle of the enemy death ball and they didn't figure out that I was on the other team. Even B33f has a video of potatoes in CW (Clan vs IS match) not figuring out that his Atlas wasn't one of them.

I have walked right through an enemy team, killed one, then walked right out.

I have been clipped with a PPC, turning my ECM off, but I was able to turn Stealth Armor on (it was off at the time) to break lock and move away.

I have stood in front of an enemy that had only SSRM and laughed as they were unable to obtain a lock.

Stealth Armor may not be worth anything to you, Khobai, but it is certainly worth something to me.

EDIT: With regard to the main topic, if you have a TAG equipped for some reason or another and you suspect that there is something with Stealth Armor around, wave it around. It's, in my opinion, it's one of the best countermeasures because it has no ammo, heat, or cooldown. You just have to clip them to reveal them.

Q is weapon group 4 on my client. How does firing LRMs help on my Kodiak?

Firing the LRMS works great on stealth targets as long as you have decent aim, not sure what the issue is here.

You act like they won't fire unless you have a lock. You still have work to do to master the LRM.

Stealth armor is easy, use thermal or night modes. Walls and rocks do not move. Just shoot it.

You don't show on thermal.

Really?

Hides you from Satellite Sweep, Radar, Turrets, Dropships, UAV.

It is very much worth it.

Stealth Armor is basically a fun trick for low level play.

To each his own. I prefer to not judge books by the cover, but that's just me.

A hidden bonus is people screaming "cheater!', "hack!', 'reported!'.

It is great fun to screw with people with basically invisibility. Can't think of a use for that?

Odd.

Only worth it in select circumstances. Otherwise i just leave it off on my Ghillie. It's nice to have when you want to attack from another angle without them knowing you did in fact move, keeps them guessing.

Is nice to break locks or to cut and run - also playing ‘possum in wreckage is fun (just be sure any AMS is disabled - and hold still!).

Stealth armor works if the enemy mech delays firing until they can get a better fix on the stealth mech. A few tenths of a second could determine the outcome of the fight. This sometimes happens to me when I encounter stealth mechs. Any firing delays helps the stealth mech survive any encounter.

Not being shot is a good thing.

Inferno SRM launche- oh, wait. MWO cannot into more than one kind of ammo.

Seriously, most stealth moders are on a very limited heat budget. If you can keep in contact, they're gonna have to kill stealth to keep going. Flamers, of course are great for pushing them. Even one.

This is absolutely true. I was fooling around with my Stealth Ghille a few days ago, and even on cold maps my UAC10/LPL combo got very hot in anything that even vaguely resembled protracted combat. The stealth/Gauss mechs are the ones you need to watch out for, as they can tap you from so far out that you may not be able to pick their mechs out from the background. Combined with that low-heat/high velocity weapon, and they can nail you from over 1000 meters for damage that you can't really ignore, and then scoot into cover before you have much chance to figure out where the shot came from. A cagey player can keep those kinds of shenanigans going the whole match.

If it's not Blue, shoot it. You can dumbfire LRMs too.

Stealth Armor is also entertaining for the shenanigans you can pull with certain builds. For example:

(You could also sub in Light Gauss if you so wish)

Don't kid yourself, stealth armor works at all levels.
