That would make sense if the goal was to draw in new players, but honestly that's not the business plan of this game. The idea was to sell nostalgia to Battletech fans.

If, suddenly, 80's robot genres came back from the dead, I could imagine someone buying up the BT IP and making a Michael Bay film (god help us all), annihilating all the existing cannon to do it. Otherwise, expect BT to be sold to a small cadre of die hard fans who happen to have jobs and money in their middle age.

I'm not just talking about MWO. BT as a whole is old and decrepit and could use a hard reset.

This. Clantech was honestly the worst mistake FASA made, versus the "Star League tech" that became the IS tech upgrade instead. It was so badly done initially that rules errata had to be slapped down on pulse/targeting computer combos that gave the user Mechwarrior Online-levels of laservomit accuracy, generally obliterating anything in range.

The entire game could use a massive reset at this point, including redoing Clantech entirely.

Oddly enough, my group 'fixed' the clans, by turning them into the SLCF (Star League Crusade Force). Rather than "ClanTech", they use IS tech upto 3070... made the 3050 invasion still a bit of an *** kicking for the IS, but not nearly as bad, and much more fun.

That was the original idea. Rather than two massively divergent tech trees, you'd have the original tech, then the League-era tech for the "Clans". It'd also have made Tukkayid much less ridiculous, along with everything else in the original Clan trilogy of books.

Here's what we do. We all buy a lotto ticket every week. First one to win. Has to buy out the franchise and rework it to be a little less ridiculous in tech progression. :3
