Not CW specific, more of a general MWO "training" idea a Unitmate (great idea LJ!) thought of;

Mentor Program.

This would utilize current in-game functions to allow for an "Apprentice" to Spectate his/her Mentor while playing.

If possible, use the Spectator function from private lobbies to allow the Apprentice to Spectate while the Mentor plays.

For Example;

ASH, you would Mentor me. While you play QP or CW, I could watch you play. See how you move, twist, fire, see your build and how it functions, making a DD, etc. After could even ask questions and such. Think of the benefit in CW. As a new player to CW, I could watch and see how to open gates and properly shoot gens.

Your NPE is actually watching a Vet play and see how his/her Mentor does things.

This could be extended into the MechLab.

No idea if possible for the DEVs to do or not or if any impact on the game itself while the Mentor has an Apprentice.

I do that now dude lol.

I have a few new players that watch me regularly on Twitch (well, regularly as I stream which is random ATM). They are also on my discord and regularly ask for advice and so on. Now and again I do private lobby stuff and get another solid player along to give pointers from spectator ooojnt if view etc.

I'm also doing that on a few other discorda and things with everything from place advice, build and other pointers as I come across them :)

You just have to filter the advice out between all of the expletives

I know you do and respect you for that monumental task.

Just thinking of utilizing current game features in a new way to accomplish that task without 3rd part apps.

When my friend LJ voiced the idea thought it has merit and believed in the idea to post it for more to read and comment on.

It's a good idea sure, PGI won't do it though...

EVERYONE ELSE... Approx 24HRS from now I will be doing a solid session of Faction Play.

I will be streaming it.

Click the link in my Signature below (follow and set notifications) and come head over to check it out. I'll help/answer questions where possible and you'll see plenty of 12man vs 12man action as it's the best time all week for that. Also plenty of the games top players regularly pop by my Twitch to chat/chill/gimme crap... So there will be a metrtic tonne of resources available to help you improve and despite what people say - top players are very helpful of new guys.

So come ask questions, give me crap for bad play - whatever. Just don't let your kids watch, I'm not the most PC person

How do you figure that? Uneducated opinion as usual?

I've actually been busy training / trialing with EmpyreaL (EmP) - The top team in the game the past 3 years. Also I've been busy running the latest competitive MWO league - Battle for Midway and also helping train a few units in the competitive scene around that.

Given your performance with your group tonight - You could do with a LOT of training on basic positioning & map awareness.

Again anyone that wants help please let me know. I put plenty of time into training people that actually wanna learn.

no no..sorry he only trains units who do not need training...like empyreal..cause they dont slow him down in his quest to be top cheese. by the way ash..."training" units like emp does not help the "community" much..they are already good. what you DO NOT DO is train small, young, or inexperience groups to get better and more competitive in things like faction or comp. your a hypocrite of the highest order. and im sure you will mud sling your way out of this or attempt to cause you got no actual proof that you have done a dam thing for anyone not already top 10. and by the way, i doupt they "need" anything from you..there quite capable with out yah. riding off there coat tails to acquire win after win in faction does not make you look like a community man.

I am training EmP? Are you ok in the head or just REALLY bad at comprehending?

I am trialling - as in - they are training me and if I reach a level of the others already in then I might be asked to join. That is what the word -trialling- means.

As for the units I've trained. I have helped out CCdn (Cranky Canadians) who are a Div D/C comp team who are just starting out. They needed some help during the world championship to improve and improve they did. It was evident in their improving results it worked. Granted others helped too so it wasn't just my own doing. Some 228 guys also helped.

I've also spent some time doing drills and similar with a small unit WoTD - a wolf loyalist unit run by KingJ00. Now and again they still ask for advice/pointers.

I also have a bunch of new dudes that stop by my twitch when I'm streaming for advice, I run builds for them to evaluate and on my discrd etc.

Once again you really don't know what you are talking about. That is you're theme though.

There are legit only a few really active top tier players whom are unwilling to impart advice or spend time with people in private lobbies.

There is a huge misconception in this community that comp players only run meta (ASH for example smashed my face in with a hellspawn a few weeks ago, not meta), only want to club seals, and don't want to teach people the game. That is patently false.

I wouldn't have made it this far without help, and none of the people who play above my level would be where they are either without help.

Dante, for real, if you'd pull your head out of your *** for a second you would find there are plenty of high level players willing to work with lesser skilled players. Its your attitude towards the comp scene and high level players in general that prevents you from progressing at the game and getting the help/attention you desperately crave.

What I won't tolerate... People that...

3. Do not want to bring optimised cookie cutter meta builds.

lemme fix that for you..

This is why most of the old golden units of yore broke up. Because drop commanders started demanding people to use THAT exact mech with THAT exact build, stifling creativity and people's playstyles.

They don't want "optimized builds", they want "builds that work FOR THEM". Either that they are good with, or that people could use to benefit / compliment THEM.

If this was not so, these so-called drop commanders / teachers would be telling you to bring a build that YOU are comfortable with, that fits YOUR playstlye, and then train you to use YOUR build effectively with the rest of the team.

This is typical indoctrinatory behavior.. Let me teach you how to "walk like me, quack like me" so I could have 12 identical copies of me on the field that I could run to glorious victory!

That's not what I would recommend to most people seeking training..

Here's a better example of proper training (experienced in real life):

Friend 1: Oh guys, we can't get into a Group que match, our group is too small.. lemme see who's online.. (sees two friends who are known to him for being great lurmers).. I'll send those guys group invites!
Friend 2: Ok, I'll switch to a light Narcer, so they can have that assault tonnage and NARC, those guys are just deadly with those!
Friend 3: Ok, I'll take a brawler to protect them and kill all the targets they weaken!
Friend 4: I'm gonna supplement them with some deadly ATM! You know I'm good with those!

(Lurmers get into group)

Lurmer 1: Hey guys, how yall doing?

Friend 1: Awesome! Wanna drop with us, we could run that deadly LRM+Narc combo?

Lurmer 2: We don't have tonnage, I'm gonna drop down..

Friend 5: No no, that's ok, you keep that LRM assault, we know what you can do with it. I'll drop down..

Lurmer 1: I'll give up some tonnage too, I'm just as deadly in a heavy.. Friend 5, you are more useful in a big brawler..

The above happen regularly..

As opposed to the good old "bring optimized builds approach" where you would get something more akin to (also actual account):

Drop commander: "everyone take SRM Linebacker for 1st drop, Laservomit Hellbringer for 2nd drop.. and if you bring a LRM boat or anything that goes slower that 81, I will TK you"

So to any potencials.. what approach is more fun for you?

I'm not talking about "efficiency" here - I'm talking about spending your MWO hours doing something FUN

Lmao, I cant believe I'm going to use this word but...the amount of PRIVILEGE it must take to think like that is just amazing. What you're talking about isnt training, it's expecting your team to cater to your parasitic playstyle and take all the risks for you. If you want to be trained to be better at the game by a strong player, the least you can do is actually listen to what they're telling you they know works. They're taking the time and effort to provide you with their wisdom of what makes them a better player (isnt that why you're asking them for help?). All you seem to want is for people to hold locks

lots of words

You're free to bring whatever mechs you want in a group, but understand that you are actively hurting your group's chances of winning if you're not participating in whatever strategy your team is doing. If the entire team is doing SRM linebackers wave 1, and you decide to take an LRM boat.... well then you're not going to be much use. You're going to be isolated by enemy lights very quickly and murdered, while your team brawls.

If you want to win, you play with your team. You don't need to have the EXACT build specified to do that, either. If the call is Linebackers, anything that goes faster than 81 KPH can keep up decently well. If you are playing clans, you can take stormcrows, ebon jaguars, hellbringers, gargoyles, arctic wolves, hunchbacks.... you have lots of options. If the call is linebackers, assume brawl, so bring a brawl mech that can keep up with the team.

You need to understand that if both teams are unorganized and bringing random mechs, then it's fine to bring whatever you want, and it will probably be OK. If the enemy team is bringing coordinated mechs though and you have a random pile of garbage mechs, then of course they're going to cut through you like a hot knife through butter. And you refusing to follow calls to bring appropriate mechs is not helping, and are a liability.

Don't think I'm against LRM boats either. I'm probably one of the biggest FP lurmtards you'll see, I often bring a double LRM Fafnir deck, or a Supernova / Nova Cat LRM deck if I'm clans. The thing is, you only take them when they are appropriate. And they are often just not appropriate for the map / mode selected. If you take LRM boats to Vitric Forge or Grim Portico, then IMO you are fair game to be TK'd, because at least that would force you into a different mech where you might contribute. And if you have nothing but 4 LRM boats on that map... well then... I'd honestly rather you disconnect and leave it as 11 vs 12 than complain over comms how "nobody is holding locks for you", as most LRM boats tend to do.
