Voting is needed to bury the dumpster fire known as Escort. Bad modes don't deserve to be played.

Escort doesn't need much to be fixed. It just needs the VIP to follow an actual path and for the Objective to reward more, and boom, fixed.

Some time ago, the community twitched and moaned about random maps. It was said back then that we wanted some input into the type of map so we weren't stuck in a loadout that didn't compliment the map that RNG Jesus gave us.

So PGI introduced map voting, and it was tweaked until we got what you see today.

Now, everyone is sick and tired of it and are making noise about going back to the old method. It's a classic "the grass is greener on the other side of the fence " scenario. If they go back to random maps, the complaints will just start up on the other side of the fence again and what we have now will be remembered fondly.

It's that or keeping the existing system is PGIs way of flipping everyone "the Bird" for questioning their choices. Personally I like the thought of it being "the bird" but the reality is we will complain either way so why bother changing it.

Modes before map voting, had tick boxes, you didn't have to play any mode you didn't want to.

Personally, I like the voting system. Not all maps are played equally, and they shouldn't be-some are more popular than others, most people favour colder maps, because they like to fire their weapons (duh), and that's fine by me.

I like being able to influence which map I'll be playing, even if only slightly.
I'm a bit baffled by the popularity of the Polar Highlands (people really like this? Huh.), but it still beats being stuck on a loop of Caustic Valley, Terra Therma and Tourmaline Desert, because RNGesus hates you for playing HBK-4P or AWS-8Q.

What could be done to increase the variety of maps played, is to start offering "pick you poison" packs of the most underplayed maps more frequently.

why?

all games played on same maps
make people run more diversified mechs

tired of playing same 2-3 maps over and over and over and over.

Same maps are being played, simply because this maps are only good maps in this game. If we want more diversity - then we need more good maps, not bunch of forced crappy maps.

The "community"? Please speak for yourself. I neither wanted map nor game mode voting.

In a related note, it seems that for some a "good" map means "the best map for my meta-whoring loadout". <shrugs>

How about tweaking the vote system? I'd suggest

1) 2 maps to choose from instead of 4.
2) Weigh the maps slightly in favor of unpopular ones.

So that say every 20 games we get the heartbreaking option to decide between Terra Therma
and Forest Colony. Posted Image

Because right now i'm becoming snow blind real fast...

That would make it worse. Random Maps and Modes only

Stop trying to make it seem like I'm not being accurate in describing how the map play situation developed. You know damned well that by using "community" I meant "a vocal fraction". I didn't give 2 "you know whats" either way.

Sure just get rid of Polar Highlands and Escort first then go full random.

If not, however than voting needs to stay to minimize how many times players are forced to endure that nonsense.

I deliberately make such corrections precisely because I want such usage to stop.

Yes, because the only mechs that should be viable are generalists durable for all situations.

If there's one thing this game needs it's fewer viable mechs in play.

Every time one of these threads come up you tend to notice how we're divided between people who want more variety and people who want less.

I was OK with random modes, but then once map voting came about I was the guy who would save those multipliers to force a conquest game on old Terra Therma. Either way I only really get what I want some of the time, because skirmish matches on Frozen, Canyon and Grim tend to be so painfully boring.

I get the distinct impression if we had random maps and modes again we'd see an uptick in build diversity.

Less diversity. It means you can only take build good on any map. Mid to long range only, ballistics and laservomit primarily.

Fewer long range AND brawl builds because you're likely to end up on a map way against your build.

Learn to deal with what comes up, I play what ever mech I feel like and just deal with it.

Only if we could select our mech/loadout after we know what map it is, then I'm for randomized maps

otherwise I think the voting system is better

If PGI replaces voting with randomization, it will affect an increase of AFKer and griefer activity on undesirable maps and mods.

Random maps, yes please. The voting "mini-game" is just silly. Random makes everyone forced to adapt at each map. Most maps could have been better. But saying, "no to random" or "remove maps I dont like". Well stop whining theres too few maps then. Even if we got a few "crappy maps" by meta head standards, thats what we got. Lets make the best use of them and just hope PGI pumps out more maps with... better quality and revamping old ones to better standards.

All maps should be played, vote hoarding is just nonsense. Gotta hoard up 12+ votes to maaaybe get that one map you actually wanted to play. Rather be fair and have random for all than the voting we have now.

And if maps are random I will consistently beat you by taking a generalist because 8 out of 10 maps will put you at a disadvantage.

People can always make bad choices, thats not anything that requires a special mode.
