I was the first
Others seem to have followed
I want to REEE about the vote placement, it wasn't consistently Clam-Sphere, ordering was random!
Light wise, a single Sphere compared to 3 top tier Clam Lights
But, all win or lose different scenarios, even enough at the top end
Medium wise, Clams have a top choice in every possible role
Sphere has a hard time competing at every role
Heavy wise...is there even a Sphere heavy which competes?
Clams have top contenders at different roles, including poptarting, brawling and poking
Assault wise, I gave to the Clams, but there are some Spheroid assaults which aren't bad
Not quite what I would call top end competitive, however. Only PUGLIFE certified

Haha sorry I was trying to be unbiased. Some might suggest if a faction is listed first it's bias for putting them ahead or some such.

For IS heavies, Roughneck, Warhammer & Grasshopper would be the best IS heavies but overall they are a notch below the Clans toys.
For IS assaults I know some say the Anni is so good but it's lack of speed or agility make it perfect for long burn times.

Cyclops for Assault
The Hero being the best, of course (REEE)
It's also more suited to brawling than most Clam Assaults, which might be a factor in Solaris...if we want to mention Solaris
They're agile and can carry decent guns
So, maybe they're just more enjoyable to play, but they seem to perform adequately too.

For lights: I picked neither they both have strength and weaknesses and balance themselves out.
Mediums: I was bout to pick clans but I know a few IS mechs can take on the Huntsmen, Hunchback IIC's, and Arctic Wolf so I go for nither.
Heavy/Assaults: Clans there's no debate, they have more reliable mechs especially since c-battlemechs just break the balance in the heavy and assault bracket.
I say this from experience, and playing with both sides and tech.

I'd say the same about the IS CryBullies but alas words can't penetrate thick skulls, deep seated issues and minds already made up. All i can do is sadly avoid furthering the mindsets/agendas of those people.
Anyhoo in line with the OP.
Voted:
Lights: Clans, however i do think the IS is slowly getting a few outliers coming into the limelight. It's here the clans can exploit their tonnage/slot advantage at it's most.
Mediums: IS: hands down is the IS, my 927 hours would back that up. Mediums are where i think the Clans do suffer in with thier omni's and lack of slots.
Heavy: Went IS i think. Though here is where the Clans do start to really go nuts. The IS do have a small amount of strong dependable heavies.
Assault: Clans, While they might not be the slow, lumbering weapon platforms the IS have. They have the one thing that matters in MWO, Speed. Gotta nascar somehow.

Lights IS are the stronger
Mediums its hard to tell i believe due to clan weapon weights, ranges and damage clan Mediums are stronger..
Heavies no question Clan murders IS
Assaults again lean to Clan.

IS has more "good" Lights than Clan, even if Clan have arguably "better" Lights at the top end
Medium - Clan
The most balance weight class, but I give it to Clan due to being faster & harder hitting, as opposed to sturdier
Heavy - Clan
The are no "bad" Clan Heavy 'mechs and their best picks can't quite be matched by IS
Assault - Clan
Clan walk this category, with only IS AC boats (maybe MRM boats, not seen too many) being the only contenders

OK.
You should add, by 10% margins, "what is your % rank on the Jarl's list" for a better gauge of relative skill I think.
As to the rest, Clans across the board.
I still live longer and do more damage in a Cheetah than I do in any IS mech including the Wolfhound.
I still do better in a Hunch IIC or Nova than I do in any is mech including a Bushie (but I don't have an assassin so I may be missing out).
I still kill more and and damage more in a Hellbringer, Night Gyr (as slow as they are) and even my Ebon than I do in my IS heavies though I freely admit I find fast mobile IS heavies (Jester, Quickdraw 5Ks, etc.) far more fun and so I may not be playing the "meta" IS heavies enough to even know if they are truly good (bias is a ***** and we all have it).
There is no contest in the Assault category. Top is MK-II second is MAD-IIc. PGI can shove their metrics showing otherwise. Those mechs dominate in ways that no IS assault can even approach.

I'm a little surprised by the number of IS assault votes but that's what the poll is about.

But which IS mechs are the overlords according to you?

Mediums: This is tough, depending on role, clan has trading mediums, IS.....doesn't, then medium to close range IS has better options, and at the extreme close range I think clan is better again with HSMLs
Heavy: Clan
Assault: about even, both sides have strong options
edit: but overall I think this is an over simplification, we need to consider context here, there are a lot of different environments this game presents, so based on where we're discussing comp/GQ/QP/FP, modes, maps, etc under which different mechs are better than others

Mediums: Clan - if you consider brawl, then it looks like IS have a slight edge, but brawl is also the weakest form of play and scouting is only brawl because there isn't enough firepower on the field for it to be anything else; when it comes time to trade, Clans win hands-down, it's not even close, where the brawl match-up actually is pretty close. This one was a hard call to make, I can see IS winning it here.
Heavies: Clan - but not by as much as people think IMHO; I think if the LPL were pushed back to 11 and the IS ran a little bit colder, this would be pretty close because the short durations are very much capable of out-trading the bigger alphas...they just run too hot and with not *quite* enough damage. When you get to specialist versions like dakka and ERLL, it's too close to call. Even brawl, where the ON1-IIC-A looks very attractive...the caveat to brawl people tend to forget is that if you re in range to shoot them, they are in range to shoot you, so the prime advantage seems to be speed.
Assault: Clan - Clans win the trade at ranges from 400 on up by a landslide until you get to ERLL ranges, where it starts slipping to the BLR-1G (and only the BLR-1G); even with the BLR-1G the SNV-C retains some tricks up its sleeve that give it a continued reason to be taken for ERLL. Dakka from the MCII-B is superior to dakka from the CP-S or ANH-2A. Below 400 meters, IS have the HGauss trick, but IMHO the drawbacks make it easier to work around than the Gauss vomit from the MCII. IS have better brawling Assaults IMHO, but again...brawl is one of the weaker play forms in the game at the moment, so I can't value it as highly as poke or dakka.
