How to get into the Battletech universe?

my only experience with Mechs are an old Battletech 3025 booklet, I had and an old MW game (MW1 or 2?!) and the early table top game, but my friends disliked it...
So as a battletech newbie, what can you recommend me as an easy entry into the BT universe.
Please just name one book, game, whatever.
Thy in advance.

Besides of that, If you can get your hands on the BattleTech Sourcebooks you'd be in for a whole lot of information.
But best to start with the guide MuffinTop has linked and from there on use Sarna to read about what you are interested in.
by the way: You are new and have already bought the Legendary? Awesome!

Well,
I believe that it is more important to support indie studios or smaller studios as good as possible, because 70% of the fresh and great ideas these days come from them.
I like innovation and new wind more than copying success formula X until you played the same game with different graphics for 10 years.

It's nice to see that this community is so welcoming and helpful. You don't find these a lot on the net nowadays.
