Welp, another mechpack after CivilWar that didn't include the Sunder. Feels bad man.

Before I buy I want to see the model next to a Locust. If it's going to be slower (With max engine and MASC active it will move at 151.47 kph) I really want it to be smaller to make up for the speed difference. Or bump the max engine rating up to 175 so we have one more built in heatsink and can roughly keep up with a Locust with MASC. I'm liking the high weapon locations though.

For reference from the MASC patch notes:

MASC MK I
  • Slots/Tons: 1 slot, 1 ton
  • 'Mech Tonnage Range: 20-25 tons
  • Speed bonus: +10%
  • Random damage range: 0.72 – 0.88

Good to see another 20-tonner. I might even pre-order to encourage PGI to put out more light mechs.

The MASC values have been tuned since their initial release. MASC Mk I now provides a +20% speed boost. A Flea with its max engine and MASC will be able to run at 165.24 kph.

I feel a little sad looking at this mech pack. Before the introduction of the skill tree, this would have been a 'no brainer' purchase for me as a light mech pilot, but not so now. Each potential mech purchase (whether with real money or with C-Bills) now means a significant investment in time and effort to improve the mech ... particularly for an average pilot like me. Before the skill tree, we could improve our mechs to a large extent by using XP only, and then buy further improvements (i.e., modules) for XP and C-Bills. Now, we are tied to both XP and C-Bill costs from the outset. All of that said, it is nice to see another light mech chassis in the game. Posted Image

Everyone that's saying "we could have Fire Moth in MW2, why not here?" is forgetting that MW2 didn't have you playing against somebody on the other side of the world and dealing with massive ping differentials in real time...

True, but they did eventually add multiplayer support.

Why the Locust has the maximum engine 190 the Flea only 170 !!! Posted Image Posted Image very bad for mech of 20tns since speed difference will make them die faster !! Posted Image Posted Image

Flea won't be smaller by volume than the Locust, perhaps it will be proportioned a little differently...

Also, what is the difference in speed for 170 vs 180 engines? A couple of kph? It is not a horrible difference. Try a foot race between 2 mechs at those ratings and you'll see how long it takes for the 180 to pull ahead of the 170. About the only time it'll make a difference is when the faster mech is just at the edge of your weapons range...

It'll be that little "ippy ippy eh" sound from a Looney Tunes flea circus.

An engine heatsink built in.
