I saw an interesting post on the forum this afternoon about a 6xLRM15 Nova Cat build and decided that it might be worth trying out. So I'm stripping SRMs out of my B when the computer makes a funny graunching noise and crashes...

Uh oh...

Six hours later it's back up but my graphics card is knackered.

Thanks MWO, you killed my PC!

Grrrrrr.....

For all those who are wondering about my poor old PC here's a link to the config.

TLDR? W10, i7 4790, Z97, 32gb ram, GeForce GTX 760

Here's the specific graphics card from the supplier - bought in Dec 2014

https://quietpc.co.u...x760h1042-1042j

and there was no overclocking malarky, that's far too difficult for me.

And thanks to all the digital currency miners buying up GPUs, prices are higher, bad timing. : /

What made you conclude it was MWO and not that the card just gave up?

Clearly, LRMs are to blame. Your poor computer just couldn't handle you playing an LRM60 boat and proceeded to self-destruct.

Your graphics card died while using your computer. Fixed

This game barely pulls on a graphics card it's more CPU intensive.

If we had 8v8 he might still have a graphics card Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Given you just contradicted yourself there, I highly doubt it. Posted Image

I stick with a few basic rules:

1. A good 80+ Gold/Titanium power supply is the way to go to ensure consistent power.
2. Never buy a used graphics card unless you know it wasn't used for cryptomining or overclocked.
3. Be sure and read reviews on things before you buy them.
4. Periodically blow the dust out of your computer, including CPU/Video card fans with either canned air.

GPUs are the only parts that fry like potatoes for me, I bet it's like that for most gamers out there. I remember one of my cards fried while playing SWAT 4 (it was Nvidia 9800 GTX). Game was nowhere near heavy on that GPU. Another card was GTX 560 OC while playing L4D2, again, nowhere near that power hungry to fry GPU. Other cards and games I don't even remember. Dust, power supply and mainnly old age, that was what kills them really.

Still curious what GPU that was for OP, and argument against LRMs is pretty hilarious.

i get gold psus almost exclusively and they still dont last more than 3 years. get grossly more psu than you need and they still dont last 3 years. especially troublesome if you are trying to shoot for the efficiency bucket.

my latest psu was a tiny 600w sfx psu, twice what i need based on adding up wattages. hasn't faltered yet. better than one of those atx behemoths they still sell these days. frees up a lot of space in my mini-itx cube. dusting gets more important as your case gets smaller.

Doubtful this game with its “high end” 2012 gfx settings ate your card. Was the card old... was it previously used to mine crypto currencies... did you ever clean fur and the rest of the crap that ends up inevitably in the gpu fan? A lot of times reseating your RAM will solve any blue screen issue encountered. However, maybe the massive amounts of lrms you were trying to equip made the game sick to its stomach and descuded to take matters into its own hands. Good luck.

Don't think OP is trying to accuse PGI of killing his card, he's just saying his card died in the line of duty playing MWO.
