A simplistic hard separation is "Meh!".

Treating solo players as militia and second-line forces and implementing that as part of the campaign system is going to be better.

Use them as stopgaps and garrison troops while waiting for the regular and elite forces to arrive.

Keep them in reserve or as reinforcements during assaults and sieges.

Organize them into ambushes a la Teutoburg Forest.

Use them as bait for traps.

There is so much you can do beyond just "separate solos from groups" with a campaign system.

Finally, dump the concept of "matches" and all traces of it into the trash bin where they belong.

There was never any motivation, desire or plan to do anything of a strategic level with MWO. They don't have the capacity to make it work. They are still balancing the weapons we've been using since alpha and closed Beta. Jump jets are a joke, always have been. The list goes on.

CONSUMABLES because they wanted a gold sink in their game...for some reason. Because like it Fing matters. It's a horror story.

This aint no Battletech Novel. Alphawarrior will not be interesting. You think the meta is killing the game right now? Where is the challenge if i dont have to choose between enough ammo for several targets or less dps by using lasers?

oh, I'm already creating down ammo'd variants.

I'm hoping it isn't just 1 death matches. Best 2 out of 3 where ammo carries over into the next rounds.

I think pinpoint will have a greater advantage in 1v1 2v2. People can be slippery like an eel with all the twisting and jumping.

MRMS will be popular. 300 ammo per ton. yes plz.

Without the pressure of other enemys shooting you, torsotwisting and jumping wont help mitigate damage that much.

Hang on, call me a dimwit but is thats whats hindering PGI to have Solaris FFA? I would sure as heck play alot more S7 then quickplay if that would be the case and they figure out the kinks.
C'mon PGI, you can do it! Posted Image If buckets are a problem, cut 2 vs 2. duels/ zellbrigen style and all out survival of the fittest, having about 4 mechs of each weight class wrecking each other.

In MW4 Mercenaries, the lights wouldnt much stand a chance, because the rule in MW4 and past games were. Bigger = better, cross tech outfitting and clan = better. But in MWO, a bit different story.

And yeah, by banning flamers *sight* you bet theres one way less of joykilling alpha strikers dominance. Cant have that, cant have flamers too scary. Cant take the whining of those relying on overheating by their poor judgement and alphaing all the time. Especially not if they are competive whiners. / salt

But please, go ahead ban more weapons, no need for weapon diversity no matter how boring a "flamer" duel would be.
Heres a solution. Just add the Metatinator as the only mech allowed and only have ONE avaiable weapon allowed. Call it a ultrahypermega laser. No need to worry about balance.
Theeere we go, one heck of a good gameplay experience! / s

iKnow Im exeggerating waaaay to much.
But I fear banning flamers will have a domino effect. Too much unwarranted whining (at leats pilots with hypercompetive mind set and influence over certain MRBC peeps at PGI) about, lets say... rockets and mg's and you bet they will go the way of the dodo.

I find it hilarious that LURMS arent banned. heck even I who love to use them from time to time, question their usefulness on the smaller Solaris maps, almost no point in taking them.
No wait balancers... dont listen to me, nono Posted Image

Was looking forward to using my Firestarters with flamers and Fleas with mg wrecking flamer carriers Posted Image

Give me a break. An extreme extreme extreme minority give a rats puffer about the flamer. Most sensible people agree that a crowd control weapon in such small matches are terrible. Stun lock. stun lock stun lock. I'm a little surprised they made such a ballsy move. Glad consumables are also out.

I hope they don't cave to the three people around here who are shedding tears over it.

And yet PGI is still selling a Solaris 7 Hero Firestarter equipped with flamers! Posted Image

Please explain the logic with above then.

As for stun locks, that should be the price people should pay for deciding to bring weapons that constantly bring them to the edge of overheating. Flamers are the perfect counter play weapon.

But the biggest irony of all is that the flamer ban came as a result of people shedding tears, and quite prematurely at that.

I can only surmise that the mech list was put together a long time before the details about Solaris were even finalized. You'd think that testing of problem systems would have been a priority.

It's a stock lore build.

Also yes, it's extremely likely that the Solaris heroes were picked long before the details of Solaris were worked out.

That said that Firestarter is quite interesting being a reverse Ember.

Jumping on them for such a trivial thing only leads them to releasing NOTHING until they are ABSOLUTELY sure what they say is coming out is coming out.

Everything is subject to change. We should know this. Not that they care.

1v1 should be a thing in all games. Its not my thing but its so simple and its the ultimate "im better than you" tool that should keep the bs to a minimum. i could be totaly wrong on the "minimum" but we wil lsee lol.

Loadout are not locked, it dont matter if it has flamers or not. The problem is... Its the Ember with hardpoints reversed and i dont want the mgs on the arms so im gona play the Ember instead. But the Ember pattern is butt ugly and not an option over the Firestorm so imn gon play the Firestorm instead, but i dont need to better aim the mgs with the arms, i want the energy on the arms so im gona play the Ember instead, god its butt ugly... fk it im gona play the -A or -S or -H or -K, they all are better option. and if i must have 4b on a fs9 its gona be the ember.

1vs1 matches are very personal, casuals won't like it because of that.

In a team death match, every target is a target of opportunity, every attacker is an attacker by chance. Not so in duels, it will feel personal. For example, what if someone is clearly going to win, but instead they disarm the other player completely, and using single fire to whittle away every component and hp possible to pad stats?

If anyone running LRMs is unfortunately/foolish enough to run across me in a 1v1 I fully intent to strip their mech in the slowest and most painful way possible.

The flamer ban isn't premature. While you personally may not have done a lot of 1v1s there is a decent part of the community that has. Both small scale (inter unit, between friends, etc.) and full on 1v1 tournaments have been happening since private lobbies were introduced. The people who play 1v1s know what the meta looks like and how it player. Solaris won't change the meta for 1v1s and 2v2s at all other than by the restrictions it puts in place.

You neglect the fact that most of the 1v1 players that pushed for flamers to be banned also pushed for coolshots to be banned. If the goal was to benefit mechs riding the heat cap why would they push to get rid of coolshots which are extremely strong in a 1v1 setting. The goal isn't to make hot builds amazing it's to balance the mode to make it more fun.

The ban isn't premature because people have been playing 1v1s and determining the meta for well over a year.

Quote

As for stun locks, that should be the price people should pay for deciding to bring weapons that constantly bring them to the edge of overheating. Flamers are the perfect counter play weapon.

What you don't seem to understand is that flamers don't just counter weapons that run hot. Having 1v1 without coolshots actually addresses a lot of these builds because if you can't take them out in 1-2 alphas (outside of flamer range) having DPS tends to be more advantageous since you can't hide to cooldown.

The problem with flamers is that they lock out most loadouts. Would you consider a 10-20% heat alpha to be a hot build? Flamers will shut that build down or limit it to chain firing its coolest weapons. It eliminates build diversity by forcing people to either take flamers (mutual stun lock is so much fun) and/or to take cool weapons like Gauss rifles. Things like SRMs and lasers becomes pretty nonviable and MGs become king in any light tonnage setting.

Gauss + MG + Flamer sounds like a pretty boring meta to me.

Imagine scouting with just 1-2 mechs on both teams. Is that fun? For a week maybe but then it is worn out for me.
Pgi wants solaris because it is much cheaper to produce content. Right now i see no substantial reason why i should bother with 1min brawl matches and i hope Solaris offers something i don`t realize yet. Otherwhise i fear that it is a big wast of resouces on pgi`s side for a week of fun.

With MW5 coming they will never give FW any campaign or more content. My bet is that on next Mechcon PGI will reveal that MWO will be only Solaris and that group play and everything else is integrated to MW5 because "the community" asked for it. Then they will sell you the gameplay and mechs you already had bit by bit again and again. But hey maybe then we get the unreal engine.
