Nope. Too many long memories here about things that were promised in 2013 and 2014 but never delivered.

And then there was the PGI "Transverse" debacle...nobody will ever trust PGI again with up-front money.

Dont be so sure. I think there's still a whale or 2 left. That will pay ridiculous amounts of money for anything even remotely battletech.

Big difference between a mechpack and a major crowdfunding effort such as the original Founders' program, or even the original Clan Invasion pre-orders (remember the gold "Khan" mechs?).

yeah bought into the founders, then Phoenix.. no mas. a mech pack here and there but nothing extreme. Asking for some of the "old salts" to crowdfund wouldnt work well IMO. Now to a newer crowd? maybe if marketing was on point. But i dont even know if they have a marketing team...

If solaris ends up being good though, like, immersive and fully fleshed out, would that up your trust levels man?

Not gonna happen.

with luck solaris, MW5, and battletech advertising may stimulate past and potential players and could perhaps reinvigorate CW?
i refuse to believe CW has died...

It hasent yet. There are still a few who are trying to fight the stupid. But they are few. There are few units still really active. And most of those are ad hoc amalgamations of dead ones.

Loyalism as a thing is totally dead. They have no control of anything, not where they fight, who they fight, why they are. Back in the day there was always somebody causing **** on the forums and stirring up fights that could go on for months. Thats dead.

Mercs are only slightly less screwed. Where was once mercs would move around the map seeking something to stick there nose in(loyalist used to hate this but i thought it was funny.)(Or in phase 3's case super stack the jade turkey heresy train.)

I could get this all together but it boils down to:As it stands right now the mode is even more bare bones than it was in 2015. Its literaly just quickplay with respawns.

What if they contracted out the work? The programming and design of it? Maybe people would have more faith in someone else doing the design and management of it.

i have a feeling they do that now. they never seem to have a coder, or a sound guy, and the mapper probably splits their time doing mechpack related stuff. problem with contracting stuff out is that pgi has no-one on their staff that can maintain those features once the contract is up. its the kind of thing that killed ammo switching. solaris is mostly ui work and i bet they contracted that out, the number of interface bugs is a testament to that. voice actors are also contracted out, thats why betty doesnt know how to tell you that your civilwar weapons are out of ammo. the only regulars seem to be the graphics guys and they are stretched pretty thin.

problem with contractors is they arent in it for the long haul, they have no personal investment in the game beyond the contract. and you cant always guarantee getting the same person again if you need them. worst part is once a system is in place, its either keep it or gut it and replace it with some other system (by another contractor). as a programmer its easier to work on a code base you are familiar with or write one from scratch, than it is to inherit someones poorly commented spaghetti code, hence the scorched earth policy.

You have to actually get programmers to program a game... but that's only if the management permits that.

What you're looking for is Lostech. Can't program something that you don't have the knowledge or resources to do it.

I think they only did that for the initial creation of the game. I think if they had done that for other stuff. We'd see more than what we have.

thats may well be true. though i have a feeling that much of the work on solaris is being contracted out. the staff pgi has is pretty much just the mechpack team.

They don't really know what to implement in FP, without a game play resourcing is moot.
