Your counter counter point would mean that its not time to nerf the Piranha, its time to buff some other lights.

I've seen it all in MWO now that there is a thread that is basically "nerf machine guns"

How long exactly have you been playing this game?

Since closed beta, but that has zero significance on the current issue.

There might also be "nerf AMS" and "nerf BAP", then maybe "nerf Clan heatsinks"... oh wait, already had that. That being said, Clan micro lasers have outrageous damage per heat (especially when compared to Inner Sphere smalls) and DPS per ton. When is this glaring balance issue being addressed?

You must have another account, as it says you've been a member since Jan of 2016. Closed beta was ~5 years prior.
Not that I care, just seems not true.

See the above post with a video attached of the damage potential of a piranha

almost the same result with a comando DK with 4mpl.... its not the MG's fault.

my beef with the piranha is putting full alphas into them and having them show little effect. Compared to a mist lynx, those are tanky little ********.

I feel like their hit reg is wonky.

assassin hit reg is wonky (very wonky)..but piranhas melt when you shoot them... especially since the MGs require face time...

Which is funny, because when I give an opponent a clean shot on me, I die. Please define the composition of your alpha strike? High PPFLD Alphas are death to my PIRs if I take a clean shot. Laser vomit and missiles are a bit different ballgame due to damage over time and spread. A lot of players I've observed hit the alpha button and then proceed to drag the cursor all over the place on a basically stationary target with laser vomit. That's not the PIR's fault.

No but being the 640728 member registered for a game that started 5 years ago and your showing Tier 4.... kinda dilutes your perspective a tad, especially when you have not provided any facts to support your side that I have seen. At least I can post vids of the piranha and lights mechs in general doing what they are meant to do. And instead of coming to the forums to complain every time I am one shot at 400+ meters by a heavy or assault I just chuck it up to the way the game was designed.

As well as the locust and wolfhound..... but yet because there is no heat generated, its OP. Whats even funnier is the keep trying to bolster their point of view with nothing that has any substance. At least the first video I posted in this thread shows my damage... and its pretty damn evident that the MG"s did not do it all.

I have an idea... lets take an atlas..... and a Piranha.... each standing still at 100 meters..... Let the atlas fire for one second..... then let the piranha fire for one second and see who is still standing.

They don't ignore them, they just recognize that low top speed and agility is the downside to balance assaults. Since depending on build you can have good to best in everything else. Low top speed by itself would not be enough to keep them balanced, especially since some of them are already the best mechs in the game.

No nerfs to PIR or MG. No thank you.
Why cant people handle the strenghts of certain mechs. Especially a Piranha in which Mgs are one of the FEW things it can do well. Why the frakk take that away from it????

No! If you nerf the Piranha, you make one of the weaker lights even weaker because it can boat one of a few very situational weapons. Sure it can boat micros and small lasers well enough, but the heat can hamper it drastically, especially for those who cant watch the heat!

Nerfing MG for Clan and IS because of a niche boating incident kills the use of that weapon system for the mechs that lacks the hardpoints to make the most use of them.

Stop the darn niagara tears of salt and up the back armor, stay together UNLESS you can deal with deadly lights alone, save the lone wolf for S7.

Its beyond my comprehension that peeps whine and beg PGI to nerf weapons like rockets, mgs, flamers and LRMS because they cant friggin counter them! Nerf them anymore and they might aswell be cut from the game. Satisfying gloating whiners, yeah that will do it Posted Image
EVERY weapon and mech needs their place, their niche even. But hey, cant threaten the mighty meta tryhard loadouts, they are always fun, the only fun that should be!
Why not just have one mech and one weapon system? Fun yet? /s

Im for min maxing and have meta of course, to have something to balance from, top to bottom. Also an adaptive meta. because it seems theres this underground lobbying from hindering other weapons to reach usefulness agains certain meta setups. It would be hilariously sad if there is Posted Image
Having a static everlasting meta kills the varity and fun of having this many weapons in the game. It would be predictabel and boring for sure.

Let MG and PIRS have their place together, thats all they have if you like to pilot them that way. but piloting lights takes skill, skill to survive.

The logic is extremely simple:
  • I am a Mechwarrior God.
  • Gods cannot be killed.
  • XXX killed me, a God.
  • Ergo, XXX is OP and must be nerfed into the ground.
  • Did I say I am a God and Gods cannot be killed? How dare you question my Godness?

And this is the main point. Folks do not know how the numbers get generated. I have watched that video several times now and still have no clue how I got that much.

Half of the 1,000 damage comes from the strike, a fact which has been pointed out to you way too many times now in multiple threads. It's time to stop feigning ignorance.

Umm I am not feigning any ignorance at all. I know the MG's did not do all the damage. I never said it did. In fact if you actually research this thread and the last one.... you will quite clearly me say .... why I scored that much...... Ammo explosions and Arty (not 50% though).... yet folks seem to think a Piranha dishes out this type of damage every darn match the way some cry about it.

I honestly would like to see a breakdown of damage at the end of each match. I think that would greatly reduce the cries for nerfs on certain mechs when you can see that ammo explosions or strikes are responsible for the majority of the damage.

Because someone over nerfed my fun. It’s been going on far too long so I expect the flip side to get the same treatment using the same reasons and logic. That’s why I’m posting here.

Basically since that junky update called the skill tree this game has been pretty much “not fun” that simple.

Only one mech can boat 12MG (PGI nerf logic 1)
The PIR-1 has zero heat penalties for it. (PGI nerf logic 2)
This variant makes other lights useless and the IS has no counter to it. (PGI nerf logic 3)
PGI doesn’t like boating (PGI nerf logic 4)

So basically one of two nerfs will happen. Ghost Heat after 8MG ( best option brings it inline with other mechs in its class), or removing / lowering the MG crit chance (bad option hurts a weak weapon)

Here's a video from a qp match I had recently. Exactly at :08 is when the hit occurs. While the light killed was not a pir but a com 2d it shows quite well that hit reg works. I've looked at it in bandicut frame by frame and only 2 of the 3 med lasers get any burn time on the com; the ac 20 scores a direct hit resulting on death for the Com.

Comparing the stock armor values of both com 2d and pir's side torsos below. The ac 20 is sufficient to outright kill the com 2d with xl while the pir can be assumed to live from the cx advantage over isxl. It would however take significant damage to either blow off the arm and st entirely or do severe damage to both parts depending on if the pir had survival skills in the tree. The Pir has a max of 16 armor before survival tree vs the com's 18. Simple subtraction yields that leaves them with negative armor thus destroying the side torso/arm.

http://PIR-1 Stock

COM-2D Stock

Both mechs can survive a direct AC 20 hit to the ct only if they are front loading their armor heavily and have invested in the survival tree for armor nodes.

If a PIR had been ST'd there instead it still would have been screwed because of the slow down, if not the loss of top speed afterwards.
