What do you think?

add it need to be added to the game?

do not add it to the game?

Put in a testing ground to see what happens?

would be interesting, and dont think it would be complex like melee to add in game. I approve of this to be added
edit:would make mechs that have no weapon hardpoints in the arms more useful

yeah the base stats from the wiki are pretty weak

Also if shields do get added then the centurion can add a shield on its shield. So it can block incoming damage while it blocks incoming damage

It would be nice to use a shield to charge into the teeth of the enemy and deliver vengeance in the form of SRMs and HMLs.

Could be a way to buff some IS mechs.... as long as it uses up tonnage. For example, spend 2 tons to add a shield that can absorb 70 point of damage to a medium mech. (same efficiency as FF armor).

Only applicable to humanoid shaped mechs though... and assaults that can't twist wouldn't benefit much (cough Atlas cough)

I was just thinking the other day, that if the technology exists to have energy shields surrounding the arenas to protect the spectators from stray rounds, why are these shields not deployed on mechs? If it's a scale/power draw issue, then couldn't the Battletech universe still have shields on capital ships in space or present to protect facilities from orbital bombardment? It's just funny this technology isn't being used for its obvious military application.

edit: seems there's been discussion of this issue by lore hounds in years past: https://bg.battletec...p?topic=33339.0

sticking in blueshield would let pgi buff those ppcs to the point where i like using them again. right now you need a warhawk to have ppc fun.

I like the thought of having a 50-85 point destructible shield on my Direwolf or other slower assault allowing me to get close to the enemy.

Well I think by add shields "metal ones" will be a nice touch to add the game, and will help with buffing and debuffing more easy without much other side effects... I think. Posted Image

I do hope that they will add in the three modes of operations for the shield and not just stick to one mode for it.

It was originally designed for Solaris, so it makes sense. XD

Shields are honestly one of the few things they could reasonably add that would do nice things for defensive boosts, though it'd fail on shield bashing along with all melee.

Or, you know. Hardened armor. That's already in-timeline.

i think pgi just needs to increase the size of the collision sphere on the ppc projectile by a small amount.

Shields would be awesome if not meta changing.

Another game has this already. Won't be hard to implement. Energy shields as well. The physical shield will swing around on a special command.

Posted Image

Energy shields are easier. Just a hitbox bubble around the mech with its own separate HP bar that can be depleted and recharged, with animations when hit.

With the adding of bolt ons on MWO, something similar to the ECU concept in WR can be in the technical realm of possibility, and this is as simple as bolting on shield attachments on the arms.

The shields are fixed to the arms. Without torso twisting, it protects you on the side where the shields are at.

If you are being fired from the front, you twist the torso to the side, something you already do in the game using your arms, so the shields blocks the incoming fire.

With a fixed HP amount, the shield will only last till the HP runs out and it's broken.

The shield will replace all weapons in the arm its installed on, reducing your firepower, so its not a free lunch.

Would be nice to see this as more of a shield with a command to bring it forward, instead of a buff...that's inferior to the armor protection the NON SHIELD arm has.
