Then MGs would need a damage buff, and then player complaints will go from "I hate how MGs chew up weapons" to "Now they chew up armor too fast".
And? They are a high risk weapon in that they require you to get stupid close, they better being doing some damage. If we are wanting to protect spuds, I'm just here to say there is only so much you can protect them. I wouldn't even care if they got minor heat added to them like Gauss needs.

People are already complaining about MGs chewing through armor.
Joke is on them, though, I can chew through their armor much faster with literally any other weapon system. That's sort of the issue: MGs require more risk in play than lasers, missiles, or ACs, but they are only really viable on 'Mechs that can bring more than 8 unless that 'Mech also has decent energy complements.

A lone assault will normally get mobbed, because most players think they can kill it in about any mech. A lone light, and a players are avoiding it - huddling together for protection or running to hide behind terrain until it goes away.
Sure, there is a handful of players that hunt lights - but most other light players prefer to get the points from killing a large mech. More to damage - bigger score and less chance of dying.

Actually the PIRs also rely on the potato factor of the enemy. If someone cannot aim properly, pays no heed to its surroundings or gets out of position, the PIR can strike.
Let's be frank, the whole complaining is about a weapon system which has abysmal short range, needs face-time, has no alpha capability. Says it all...

Actually Piranhas rely on broken mechanics and small size to kill enemies. All you do is run up wave your Machine guns around then run away. There's no skill involved. Just crappy pgi mechanics.

Before I write more and get myself banned I will just say so much: If PIR 1s, or any PIR for the record, were as easy peasy and so super overpowered [Redacted], we would drown in QP matches in PIRs.
In reality you see sometimes 1 PIR per team, and not even that is common - rarely 2. This alone shows that your perception is screwed beyong belief simply because people tend to play the most easy and powerfull stuff in online pvp games (read: OP stuff).
And one last advice, and this is really not meant as an ad hominem, but [Redacted] lights, especially the tiny ones, are infurating until you learn how to properly aim and lead your pinpoint weapon. MWO's learning curve can be steep and hitting the weenies is one of those things

I think you mean the FS9-A (which boated SPLs), which caused a similar stir among spud assault players.

It may have been. I was driving Spiders then. I was pretty envious of those Firestarters getting that close in with a mech 4 times their size and living to tell the tale.

Light mechs are already too durable as is, often receiving several tonnes worth of free armour turning them into very fast mediums. That's fine if you want all mechs buffed and nerfed towards the centre, but it makes things awfully generic.

Generally speaking...isn't it funny that when you see posts about OP light mechs and you check the leaderboard for their light mech scores, that you nearly always find horrible scores or hardly / none matches played in light mechs for several seasons?
Just look up some people's leaderboard scores who complain about "OP light mechs" or whatever in this thread. It is eye-opening.
And if someone thinks this is bashing or not relevant...it is. After all it shows if someone is either an experienced player or rather inexperienced or if someone has real hands-on experience piloting light mechs. Remember the saying: the grass is always greener on the other side. So, playing a light mech for 50-100 matches will show you the ups and downs

Well, the "psychology" is: XXX killed me, therefore, XXX is OP and must be nerfed. It's really that simple when it comes to PvP games.

You would think so because of equipment health, but honestly the size (and therefore chance of getting hit) matters far more. An IS UAC/10 goes poof before a Clan one does..
