1.) This is just going to taunt me further that the game has no melee. What's next? Release Hatchetman with no melee?

2.) Xin Sheng mechs when?

*Cough* Hatchetman. With melee. See my post above.

Man, don't know how I missed hearing about the new BATTLETECH expansion! I guess in November the Outlaws For Hire will have to come back from vacation.

From Sarna: "HTM-28Tr A simple Jihad-era refit, this version places a Guardian ECM Suite in the torso by reducing the Streak SRM systems to their four tube versions."
...However, I note that the MWO spec has a Streak SRM4 in the left torso and a Streak SRM6 in the right torso.

So something that's been confusing me. Are the XP and C-bill boost items given immediately or in December?

Hatamoto-Chi Torso and Head look great, but hardpoint wise it's not exactly my cup of tea, except the Prime variant.

Charger is exactly my style hardpoint / engine cap wise, but the head looks so hideous. Very ugly concept art. =(

Comments/rants:

1. Charger head design is bad. Please rework it.
2. Charger torsos and designs are arguably "highlander-ish". Why?
3. Sarna's article on Charger is far from glowing. It's really down to PGI to make Charger appeal more (quirk, mobility, hitbox, etc), otherwise why should we buy an admittedly defective mech?
4. How difficult is it to add GXP bonus into the early adapter rewards? Grinding skill points are (really) painful.

So, when will we get melee into this game?

Finally the hatamoto-chi shows up, looks like it and the charger have a lot of re-used assets (Charger has a lot of BK and highlander in it while the hatamoto-chi is obviously a Victor with a different helmet). I'll see you guys uh.....sometime in 2019 when they come out for cbills Posted Image

The issue with the Charger in lore is that it's loadout is pitifully weak, in MWO with the mechlab this issue can be solved. But they will need some nice quirks to make them viable.

The Charger's head seems to be the number one complaint... I hope PGI understands and reworks the head when doing the 3D-model:

What... What did you do to my Charger's head!?!? That looks like a Highlander's head...

View PostRekkon, on 31 August 2018 - 06:17 PM, said:

That Charger head really kind of ruins it. It makes it look not-Charger, as well as frakking with identification between it and the Highlander.

CHANGE CHARGERS HEAD PGI IT SUCKS!

View PostRipper X, on 31 August 2018 - 07:45 PM, said:

The Chargers head definitely needs a rework.

View PostJaspbo1, on 31 August 2018 - 08:56 PM, said:

Could the 3D team make the head a bit slimmer and maybe taller? It's silhouette is a bit close to the old HGN.

View PostDran Dragore, on 01 September 2018 - 01:18 AM, said:

EDIT: oh, and yes. The head of the Charger dont look like the realy Chargers Head. Its more like the Highlander Head. Please redesign it.

View PostTeenage Mutant Ninja Urbie, on 01 September 2018 - 07:16 AM, said:

Highlander-head has to go, it needs a proper Charger-Head.

View PostFLG 01, on 01 September 2018 - 07:59 AM, said:

Agreed. The head needs a rework. It looks like it was done right first and then squashed to make it flat. It should not be flat.
Fortunately, the 3D-modellers can fix that problem. So do it, please!

View PostTincan Nightmare, on 01 September 2018 - 11:30 AM, said:

I think the biggest problem with the Charger's head is that it is just too wide. The TRO art shows it as being pretty 'boxy' with a rounded top, but it is far more slimmer. If they just reduced its width I think it would look a lot closer to the source material and would no longer look like the Highlander's long lost brother.

And from other threads:

View PostBishop Steiner, on 01 September 2018 - 10:40 AM, said:

Also the head looks more like a derp'd Highlander than anythign to do with a Charger.

View PostWill9761, on 01 September 2018 - 12:28 AM, said:

Though, I will agree that the Charger's head should have been handled better.

View PostVariant1, on 01 September 2018 - 08:06 PM, said:

charger's head looks a bit too similar to the highlanders. wish they could make it a bit rounder and narrow

I'm so done with the Gotta-buy-3-mech pack garbage.

Been working on a BT-faithful overall mod. Among other things is more vehicles, infantry (in game I have everything except hiding in buildings, swarm attacks and models so right now a squad of infantry men look like an APC, but functionally have BT stats and 5 separate though minuscule health pools with MGs, flamers and small lasers being the most effective against them) and aircraft (specifically I only have the warrior in game -- and actually at the moment its a flying APC and the AI has...no idea how to take advantage of what I gave it. But the AC/2 fires exactly as described under MechFactory [you must log in and then search for Warrior under vehicles, specifically the H7], with 10 shot bursts per trigger pull and with my modding, "rapid fire ACs" is implemented; you can use ACs twice in a turn at a jam-and/or-explosion risk which increases each time you do it in succession and cools down when you give the weapon a break; UACs simply have a much softer jam risk and it isn't as high -- noteworthy though, AC damage is down on par with their comparative weapons).

Pretty eager to see Charger and Hatamoto Chi over there, would be far more intimidating. That said, perhaps PGI could see Chargers used more appropriately with a substantial bonus to small lasers and perhaps Light-class high acceleration? Even if they can't punch and brawl, perhaps they can still be "chargers" instead of another laser vomit-hideaway mech.

Sigh....they just don't get it. The game is on borrowed time and they still insist on releasing new mechs. Not particularly good ones either for MWO.

If it's like the ones they did for Escalation and such, they'll be awarded when you get the mech injection when they're released.

Isn't that actually the best reason to keep making more mechs?

They can recycle the mechs for future mech games, after all there won't be much difference in graphics between releases, its not like we're making the jump from pixel art to 3D or vice versa. What they can't recycle in a new game on a better engine is actual content, like making a meaningful faction play or actual things to do in game...or scripts written for CryEngine.

Yeah, but uninspiring 'Mechs with uninspiring looks aren't going to get me to play the game more. Good 'Mechs with good looks will.

Probably never. Proper collision physics and knockdowns have not been reintroduced to the game since it was removed during beta. Even MechWarrior 5 (from what I have seen so far) will not have melee, although it does have destructible terrain, which is a step in the right direction.

Really, they could just make it so that when you are within melee range of an enemy Mech your weapon group 1 would change to a punch / chop attack and weapon group 2 would be a kick attack and you would still be able to fire any support weapons (like in BATTLETECH) too. Support weapons in BATTLETECH are MGs, Flamers and Small Lasers (so far).

And from other threads:

Yup. Alex hits more home runs than Mark McGuire did in his full steroid era glory. But even the best hitters also have foul balls and strike outs. That head on the Charger is a among the worst whiffs Alex has swung since taking the gig.

I too would like to add my vote to re-due the model for the Charger. Looks too Highlander especially the head, I believe the head is suppose to be more spherical and with a T visor cockpit. Since it's suppose to be a Brawler mech a spherical head gives a cockpit window that would be better for seeing your immediate surroundings.

If the whole mech can't be re-done at least change the head/cockpit to one more true to the original design.
