It is to crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentations of their mothers.
It is to eke out a narrow victory despite overwhelming odds.
It is to coordinate a strategy with your teammates that transforms your group into an unstoppable whirlwind of destruction.
It is to give the challenge your best shot and grow in skill and experience with every match, no matter the outcome.

No worry man,,, the game is full of lunatics so you will fit right in.
At the end, this is the most charming part of MWO.

mech's from Years back, may be obsolete , or totally different load outs since then, to be viable in a FP match of today.
There is nothing wrong with "trying" with what you have.
Quick Play modes have been added, Incursion is now called Siege.
Solo Dropping, is pretty much like what Ma always sez, 'It's like a box of Chocolates, you never Know what you're gonna Get"

HHoD is a top notch Unit for players that are honest about wanting to learn CW, better themselves, and have a great pool of pilots to drop with.
Their Training program is the best I have experienced and not only in MWO either.

I'm a fair player. I have streaks of "great" followed by pits of despair. QP is getting to be ridiculous - it seems like the games are always 12-2 or so (with a very few exceptions) and you either are part of the 12, or part of the 2. I rarely feel like I can make a difference. You might be on a team with an LRM Atlas and no other assaults, or packed on a team with fairly fast assaults and a lot of lights or mediums.
And don't get me started with teams like last night with 3 Annis and a Fafnir. The game was practically over before they got to the fight.
Help.
give it a try. fw is super-fun if you're into teamplay.

Well, soon enough those QP w/ respawn players can only fight others of the same "skill". They can play at the bottom of the barrel and get stomped by other bottom of the barrel players.
Cannot happen soon enough.

I drop with all kinds of people. I have dozens of TS bookmarked. When KCom drops we invite people from our friends list to fill a drop. When there's not enough KCom on we go drop with other groups. The other night I dropped with a mixed BCMC/EVIL/et al group. I even took LRMs. Built a NARC Kit Fox. It was good fun, realized I don't have many ERLL Clan mechs built. It was good fun.
However there's always good people and fun teams to drop with. Always. Don't be an antisocial jackwagon. Or at least if you are either be entertaining or put up good numbers. Dropping in a team doesn't mean you have to go to "practice drops" (most comp teams don't even do practice drops) or only take X mech or whatever. It just means you're communicating with your teammates and putting in a bare minimum effort at teamwork.

It's not like the bads are not actually clamoring for teamwork / group play in FP to be nerfed. You know, because too much skill is abuse, and groups belong to the comp queue and stuff...

Makes me sad to read that.
I base(d) my post and opinions on personal experiences in the past. I hope it has not changed that much as I have a good deal of respect for the program they had developed and the training I had received.

My experience and opinion differs entirely with the opinion you just stated. FW experiences can be separated between (a) dropping solo, (b.) dropping in small groups of 4-6, and (c) dropping in groups of 8+. While I enjoy playing solo and as an 8+ man team, I prefer to drop in small groups as that generally results in the closest matches. Dropping solo its hard to have enough of an impact on the match to significantly affect the odds of winning, but it does allow for you to practice playing against players that are generally better than those you find in QP, and if you win it is exciting (but you usually don't unless you get matched up against other pugs or a really bad premade team). Dropping as large groups tends to result in stomps in your favor (which is great for c-bill farming, but isn't super challenging unless you drop against another large group).
The only way you should feel confused is if you decide to drop in solo, without taking advantage of the multiple resources, both here on the forums, and elsewhere. I can't recall ever feeling used. Dropping solo I sometimes end up pissed off (usually at the stupidity of my own teammates), but that can be solved by just dropping with a few friends so that at least a few people on the team know whats going on (and you can bs in chat even if the match is turning to poo).
