I haven't found too many builds where light ppcs seemed like a good choice. Maybe I'm just not playing enough. The only one I tried out was on my Rifleman. With 5 LPPCs and medium lasers. If you configure it right. You can get 3 of them on the highest mounts. And while it wasn't unusable, you can certainly scare an enemy into back peddling away if you chain fire them. It feels like more of a build for fun than practical.

I haven't found any other builds where it makes sense. Anyone else think it needs a buff to distinguish it? Personally I think lower cooldown would better distinguish them.

You can combine a LPPC with a HPPC to be more weight-efficient than 2 PPC. That's about it really.

LPPC's and LGauss are both garbage-tier weapons, that really don't belong on any builds.

I dunno. I found that I like Light Gauss plus Medium pulse lasers on my Uziel. It's a weird build. But the cooldowns line up enough to just keep snapping off shot after shot.

I found that the light gauss worked okay as a fire suppression weapon. It is a way to keep people's heads down, and get them to move. It doesn't do a ton of damage. But when I used it on a stealth-armored assassin, I could get to the side or back of the enemy, and use it to get them out of cover so my team mates could shoot them. Yeah, 8 points of damage isn't a lot. But it does make noise when it hits, and makes their paper doll indicator lights blink. Sometimes that kind of distraction is almost as useful. And the speed that the shots move at means you can get hits far outside of effective range. Yeah, they don't do that much damage. But it still works to get them moving.

Agreed, more fun then practical but fun has a place too....

I was playing are with them on one of my Urbies and having giggles.

I run two light PPC's on my Urbie-SC as it doesn't have the tonnage for an ERPPC, the speed means the 90m min-range is rarely an issue.

I run two Snubs on my Jenner, given that it's for infighting it gives me a respectable punch at optimum and I have the speed to disengage the bigger targets and cool down, I pilot the thing like a Y-Wing.

You can put 2xLPPCs on a Locust-3M with its 20% cooldown quirk for some annoying action.

as usual, this guy gets it ;)

(sadly,) it just a fun weapon that has a place on fun builds, and that's it. you can work them in a few places into an "okay" shape - but why take "okay" when you can take "good" ?
PGI has to rebalanc...oh..nevermind ;)

I think it is the best weapon on that single energy Spider, but really nobody should be driving that thing by choice.

You should be using either an LPL or SNPPC on that variant. A single LPPC won't hurt anybody.

@Fupdup: It boosts my matchscore through damage assists though. I can run full speed and jump and still have the mg. If I wanted to do real damage would taken another 30 tonner.

I've run snub on my Spider. That is quite a bit of fun if you're doing a full speed drive by, timing gets tricky. Fighting other agile lights though it become quite hectic trying to land those shots.

So to answer OP's question.

Do Light Ppcs Have A Place?

YES - If you play for fun!

Yup, and if you think it's fun to win, you won't take them.

yeah light ppcs do have a place, they are there if you need to save tonage on lighter chasis. while the hppc is the opposite spectrum more suited for heavier mechs. it all comes down to preference, i could certainly imagine it being an attractive weapon for light/medium sniper builds

If you're sniping on a light/medium gundam that's what the ERLL is for usually (although it is getting nerfed quite significantly in October...).

true erll is also good for sniping, but it requires burn time where as a light ppc can be fired quickly in and out of cover. also they are not gundams, they are mechs Posted Image

Light Gauss CAN be useful. You can put two on a MAD-3R with 4 MedL or 4erMedL, works pretty good for me. It's like having a Gauss Rifle, only with quicker cooldown. While you may spend more tonnage on the ballistics, you're also gaining heatless ranged attacks with quick cooldown. There are trade-offs, but it can be worth it. Don't bother using this on the other Marauders, since the 3-R has better quirks for protection.

WRT LPPCs...I just can't justify their heat and cooldown with any builds I've tried. Might be okay on certain mechs with the right quirks, but then I'd probably rather use a different PPC type for more damage.

it's a blast, right?
had a game with a fresh racecar-spider yesterday; measly 150dmg, but 4 snub-kills. so. much. fun ;D
but the point remains: why would you use a light ppc on that? we use a snub.
there's nearly 0 scenarios where that thing makes sense, even on fun-builds like the racecar-spider.
