Gameplay here is so bad, you should probably just listen to the top 5%

That's why this is a PSA imploring those bad players to please stfu and not lead.

Games are better most times even without a lead.

good points

you just need to get the word out for people to follow your vision of MWO
another idea would be to remove voip except for group drops

I'm just presuming this is a troll thread because telling people not to call is so dumb its unbelievable....

With the stat padding people do via solaris the stats are almost literally meaningless without a breakdown of match types, group and solo.

It gets even worse as I know a couple of very good drop callers that play almost nothing except FW so essentially don't appear at all....

Just recently I managed to talk folks into going basement on HPG (Skirmish), we literally murdered enemy team, rolled over them and stomped into the ground. However, most challenging part was to keep trigger-happy folks from leaving the deathball. Every time people try to take top on HPG, it ALWAYS turns into big, fat disorganized s***show, and either team can only win purely by luck.

and most basement camps ..3 guys run in entry to shoot out and becomes fire from 3 Reds in the Outside and blocked all supportfire from his mates ...died, the next leroy run in the entry...other side "im can cry ..take the top and stand alone while the first folloing assault goes backward by MG Fire from the first enemy Light and blocked all others or all plays Nascar ...

otherside :Crimson first order-"dont get in the Tunnel or over Ridge -Deattraps and all support blocked" ...What we doing other? -Build Firelines and Focus fire . The Mates doing it and we won ,im self died early in focus fire and spectate the show ...give hints ..not run in the firelines- from mates hold positions-im was the only lost in the Match with good Dmg make, was a Good Match and a win ...and its came a "Thanks for the good Command"

That is very true.. But we are talking Pug's here, and if there are 5 mechs around a corner, and you have 8.. if you are focusing even on a weaker target you are far better off then everyone shooting at someone different.
Even pugs can cooperate with one another and use common sense...

Not sure about now but back when i used to play, pugs cooperating was actually quite... normal. Obviously only works with a drop caller but i've seen firsthand, players like hades mw split the team up into groups and coordinate pincer attacks effectively.

Team play has been disincentivized. Who wants to put in the effort to work with others and make a match interesting if all you need is 50 MS to complete the "challenge"?

I guess you're speaking from personal experience there so please don't be on my team when I'm in the solo queue. Posted Image

Nah. I'm just flustered with all the pre-fight override suicides, the "Polar? No thanks!... logs off", and all the other nonparticipatory shenanigans that matches seem to be filled with. I feel rewards should require less grind, but more engagement, so players have at least an interest in actually playing their matches.

I maintain that it's because pgi holds events with low-lying objectives like "play X number of games" or "perform Y number of assists". Every time that hapoens, it seems qp gets saturated with people doing things loke dropping airstrikes and running in to die so they can move on to their next game. Or aiming at "non-essential" components to get kmdds. Or running off alone to gamble on getting a solo kill before dying. Stuff like that.

It's why i don't play during events. And there's always an event on nowadays. So i just don't play.

You can't pad the stats people talk about with Solaris. Solaris stats are a separate deal, and most everyone knows they're useless.

The same thing happened when events required non-trivial objective completions. People would just load up some SRM vomit mech, rush, die, and then go drop into another match to do the same, because it was often quicker to fish for lucky matches when you got your damage in early than it was to stick around and have an actually good match.

This is a silly thread. How else are people gonna learn to drop call if they do not practice--especially since a good call can make the difference between a win and a loss? Heck, I was dropcalling back when I was a Marik pug because having someone do it was definitely better than no one doing it. Sure I made plenty of mistakes, and I wasn't even good at the game, but from those mistakes I learned to get better at it. Managed to beat even 12-man stacks in FP by organizing pugs, and that was back when my overall WLR was only little over 1.2.

Command? This is a troll post because this is silly....

EL has it right, "trying" is the first step in Doing..... You know, the FM100-5 kind of doing.......(Be, Know and Do,) Oh, that's right, for the few of us that have "actually Commanded" in the real world, we spent years learning, practicing, being mentored on, how to Command..... By the way, Commanding is the best and the worst experience ever imagined.....because Commanding is a binary skill: you either can or can not Command. You either win or lose.... You have respect or you don't.... Not for the meek.

Practice is a good first step in the DO cycle..... But, Leadership is all about Knowing and Being as well..... People will follow if they have "trust" in your actions and "respect" your knowledge............notice, not words....

So, give it a whack.... Practice Command Voice and for heavens sake.......know something before you open your mouth....

How many of the great commanders in history were front-line fighters?

Almost all of them, at some point in their military career. Rommel may be remembered as corps commander, but his reputation actually stemmed from his understanding of small unit infantry tactics in WWI when he was a lieutenant.

Also, in BattleTech almost all commanders are frontline commanders and fighters. Hohiro Kurita in his Daishi, Adam Steiner in his Thunderhawk, Hanse Davion in his Battlemaster, Janos Marik in his Rifleman, and even Sun-Tzu Liao occassionally took the field in his Emperor.

Lastly, as pointed out, we are fielding companies, i.e. units usually commanded by captains.

Just had a fun match. Frozen City... spawned on the C line. We were headed to E7/F7, but the assaults went to cross D5, including an Anni. He wasn't going to turn back so I told the team to follow him to the E4 city. Much complaining ensued. One assault stayed behind and died to the enemy, we killed a light scout on E4. Then we got strung out in the city and all through G5 and F6. The Anni was alone in E4. Anni calls back for the team since he sees people crossing the valley. The lights head back to him and call for the others. Much complaining ensued, but the rest of the team follows. We get there to see the enemy trying to climb up to the city one by one. Two of their assaults hid in E7 so even with all the grumbling we take the group down. We win 12-5. People whined it was a crap win.

A silly call that the whole team buys into is usually better than a good one that gets ignored by half of it, so I say call away if you have an idea. It's better than having no direction. It's one of the things they teach in the Army; in the absence of leadership, take charge and do SOMETHING.

Just cause dropcallers can lead from the front, doesn't mean they should. By placing oneself at the front one risks getting crippled (which would suck if you are one of the better shots of your group) or destroyed (if the group doesn't have a competent back-up caller then that wave is probably gonna be a bust). You don't see drop callers like Merata Kell leading the charge in KCom - he generally stays back with AC2 Mauler. Which is wise, cause good opponents would be gunning for his head.

I think you seem to conflate bad stats to hiding at the back as a good commander and good stats with being a front line fighter and being a bad lead. This is a game and the two are not mutually exclusive. You can be a good leader from the front and have great stats. MWO is more of a small squad play rather than battalion level and at this level, you lead from the front.

Again this is a game. Not history.

You're hugely mistaken if you think I am conflating anything.

And I like mixing a little bit of history with my games. Posted Image

If some one has a plan its better than no plan

If some one neggs your plan and doesn't come up with an alternative , just neggs....they can eat moi shorts

If some one neggs your plan and comes up with an alternative.........Consider it

If some one has a bad plan... sell the team your experience and alternative plan.....very quickly (by pass the other if needed Posted Image)

Avoid negging....its a time waster

The best commanders are the ones that ocd twitch switch between lance and company commander on the drop pred screen then give a single order...'move here' then when the actual shooting starts do nothing else with it. Good times those. I've done better suicide rushing into the enemy with an xl equipped lrm cat whilst calling my 'teammates' all sorts of names about how much better a suicidal xl lrm boat makes a better assault than an assault mech. Startlingly enough it seems to motivate a lot of pugs into full on kamikaze mode with a 50% chance of winning seeing a cat lrm and lazer spaming gunning into the blob of reds.
