The ghost heat would need to be quite a bit higher than what is shown in the example given to us though, something more akin to AC/20 ghost heat of 600% for two. (which is only 8 when applied to MWO's current heat for two Gauss rifles but then... actually once you get to three its practically unusable as that triple GR design I showed in the youtube videos would hit somewhere between 70 to 80% heat with a long cool down with each firing [it used 10 SHS if I'm not mistaken], and when you get to four...that'd shut down literally any possible design even with DHS boating, which is basically impossible given the weight and space needed.)

Ultimately the ghost heat would make Gauss Rifles impractical above 2 anyway and a liability to a suicide machine beyond 3.

Still, anyone could easily pump quad Gauss or twin Gauss twin ER PPC with the way MWO currently is and has been.

We'd be able to get around it the same way, too. Though beyond the 8 heat for twin Gauss, basically there'd be no difference while people work their way around it. Maybe on high end teams there might be a glass cannon protected in the "E sports" to make it interesting to watch because while team X has a ballista (Gauss boat), team Y might have some other counter strategy and we'd see how it works out.

(Would like Mech Mortars PGI if you're listening...)

-------

Side note: In doing the math for the HGR and remember it isn't exact as the weapon doesn't break down in an even 4x / 5x range (and its been reduced from what it used to be which was 5x), I discovered a simple way to improve the Light Gauss. Except as I double checked, it turns out that's already in.

(Unlike Gauss and Heavy Gauss, Light Gauss can still get triple crits, meaning the damage against structure for one LGR can go up to a maximum of 11.6 compared to its 8 base as well as potentially destroying 3 components, assuming you got a triple crit. This is its only redeeming feature and its chance for any sort of crit is a flat 42%).

Was it really worth necroing this stupid idea just to add that one comment?

You realize the twin Heavy Gauss Rifle's 50 alpha at 440 meters is...
approximately 37.5 damage, right?
At 660 its 25 damage, at 880 its 12.5 damage. (These are approximate).

There's a 42% chance (according to smurfy its +17%, which is +17% on the base 25% for a single crit) of the Heavy Gauss Rifle slug to get a 12.5 crit damage bonus. Assuming both slugs get this single crit, and taking 15% of that to add to bonus structure damage, which is unaffected by range, then against structure...

Twin Heavy Gauss at 440 meters is approximately 41.25 damage against structure if both succeed in crits.
THG at 660 meters is approximately 28.75 damage.
THG at 880 is approximately 16.25 damage. Again these three are if both of them succeed in critical hits.

While 45 at the range of three standard Gauss Rifle at 660 might be scary, consider how easily destroyed such mechs are.

Any mech trying to run this setup is an easily destroyed glass cannon, kind of like a piranha that's slower than dog-poop, sacrificing much speed and pretty much its own dignity in order to run this.

The ghost heat would make it pretty unruly, too.
Considering how MWO treats Gauss Rifles and PPCs, this means that ghost heat will also spread to combining them with PPCs and prevent the real threat of the much harder to deal and fewer sacrifices of the twin Gauss twin PPC setup.

One more for fun.

Victor, Blood Asp, Anni, Dire Wolf, and Kodiak

Don't get me wrong, I agree that 3x Gauss might be too hard to bear, more so on IS mechs. But Clan seems to have no problem, even capable of adding backup lasers, Dire could go 3x GR + 6x ERML, while it's not exactly a good chassis to begin with it is dastardly powerful. And the Kodiak, I even put DHS and lasers on that thing, no doubt that it could go faster without them.
