If I follow you, you're talking about 50/8 in the extreme case(8 total components on a 'Mech) of a 100 tonner colliding with a 20 tonner. So roughly 6 damage per component. Sounds reasonable.

However, 1) this won't stop folks from "leg humping"; they'll just do it from 5m further away, and even the best Assault pilot will not be able to force a collision if the Light knows how to avoid it due to the massive difference in agility, and 2) it has vast potential to unfairly punish friendly collisions in lower ranked play

Actually over just the hit components which would be both legs, and at most 2 torso, unless the impacted mech gets a face full of knee then it over the 3 torsos, or throw his shoulder into it which means that arm is likely gone.

At 5m from the leg there should be enough of the hostile in view when looking down to get an estimate where to aim arm mounts or low slung torso mounts. Also alternating from backing up to going forward would throw the timing off for most leg humping lights as it is.

As a mainly a Stalker pilot I can attest to this fact.
The little crotch huggin leg humpin b******* have gone on.
Far too long.
This needs to be fixed PGI.
Stop ignoring this issue.
On a side note beware the Stalker 5M.
It might not be a lurm boat.

but the point being made is that you're unqualified to be making this statement. Besides that, you're wrong.

What you are saying applies to you only.
It's not exploiting a weakness, it's exploiting a broken mechanic and you have no right to speak because you don't understand and you most definitely weren't here by the time knockdown was removed. You only dont want this to happen because you know you will lose your precious stats as a light player, because you can't abuse a broken mechanic to score an easy kill.

MWO is an adaptation of Battletech and throughout all Mechwarrior games, lights were never meant to be a counter to Assaults unless they had help. Lights shouldn't be a counter to an assault unless there is 2 of them and people who suggest otherwise are advocates for "BIG STOMPY ROBOT GAME RAINBOW LIGHT" the only thing that should counter assault mechs are long range poke and speed....NOT AVOIDING THE ENEMY'S CROSS-HAIRS FROM LEG HUMPING.

Wrong. MWO is *based* on Battletech. It isn't an adaptation. It surprises me how many times I've had to say this on this forum.

They're just numbers.

You're one of those guys....
Talked about my stats and you acted as if they were important....

In a game where every player has only one mech and there's no combat value or tonnage restriction (outside of FW) and there is only death match mode every mech should at least have the chance to take out the other.

Also, if assaults were not endangered to fall to lighter mechs, no one would play anything but assault mechs.

And just for the record: heavy units were guarded by lighter elements to protect them from being harassed and flanked in Battletech (ever heard of the Eridiani Light Horse? Guess what they were (in)famous for)

And lastly, if you want to be soooo true to the Battletech lore, you should know that assault mechs are precious machines and rather rare compared to other models. So, should we impose a restriction per match?

Despite you are so darn wrong on all accounts, I totally agree that leg humping is silly. The tiny 20t mechs should be increased in size so that they are targetable and the 35t mechs reduced because these are too easy to hit and vulnerable

Fixed with emphasis.

MWO is only PvP, so every 'mech (in theory) has to be able to kill every other 'mech. Lights need to be able to kill Assaults, otherwise why bother playing one, when 99/100 QP matches are decided by the 1st team to 12 kills?

Say it with me "This is not tabletop, 1 player controls 1 'mech, therefore 1 'mech must be balanced vs any other"

And you want to increase your stats by nerfing an entire class, and that won't work, because it won't make you better at the game.

At the end of the day it won't matter bro. Check yourself, there is much room for improvement.

Most of the dedicated light pilots in this thread would screw you wild no matter the circumstances.

In previous games, lights were always the tomato cans that get kicked around. It's fine for a "procedural" game where you get stronger, more money etc and move upwards to assaults eventually. You can see this happening even in the latest battletech hbs game.

In an arena, single spawn system, lights can't be tomato cans. They need another niche in the game and that is to be the giant killers that hunt big game assaults. The game would be extremepy one dimensional if it took a 100t assault to down another 100t assault. Everyone will bring 100 tonners and the game immediately loses like 75% of its character.

BS even in closed beta with knock downs the jenners were fierce also in BattleTech Solaris on AOL and again in 3025. Good pilots that can maneuver will still be feared.

Are you gauging the current effectiveness of light mechs in mwo now by judging them on their closed beta performance? Wha-?

Also, you do realize that pilots who perform well in lights generally do better in heavier chassis? They do well despite the disadvantages. That doesn't mean the disadvantages aren't there.

You said lights are tomato cans I was pointing out they are not.

Yes good pilots are good pilots. Someone that runs up and leg humps you is not good piloting.

I said lights are tomato cans in previous games. I didn't say lights are tomato cans in this one. And also, no, i don't count a 2001 "game" that also closed down in 2001 a proper game. Nor does it influence anything.

Right? See, sausages are made of meat. There are a few vegan sausage manufacturers but it takes a special kind of person to disagree that sausages are made of meat because of that.

Good or bad piloting depends on the outcome. If a light pilot manages to run in and leg hump you to death, he's a good pilot. Before that happened, he made a series of good decisions in terms of timing, positioning and aggression. The final dash to your assault's crotch is just the victory lap.

It's not a nerf nor do I think lights are OP My suggestion is stopping the people who are abusing PGI's inability to code in knockdown or melee.
What you said is true, those players deserve those kills by being able to dodge and maneuver my attacks...Unlike the exploiters who just run up to an extremely tall mech and just move a small rotation around whilst hugging the legs, if i had melee I'm sure people would think twice by humping my leg like some mangy mutt .

MW4 did have facehugging lights but they were easily demolished with a very neat feature that only needed to be activated with the M key, It let you look down at your feet and fire right there.

Right now it's stompy robot wars with point and click adventures.

MW4 had a key to look down I never played LL what other PvP mechs games were there? And no console crap doesn't count.

I've played mw2, mw2 mercs, mw3, mw4, mech commander 1 and 2, ll (a little), mwo and hbs battletech

In all, except mwo, light mechs were designed to be something you started with then grow out off. Obviously some of the games vary a bit, but the "training wheels" role of lights is always present.

It's why i think lots of mwo grognards can't accept the fact that their monster 100 tonner gets shredded by lights. Decades of "lights are stomped on by heavier mechs" makes it a rude and unacceptable shock.
