Ive tried to keep up with the updates but that doesnt tell me much about in game gameplay.
So how has the game been treating you guys? Well i hope?
I'm really hoping the game is getting better instead of winding down into oblivion.
What have PUG Queues been like recently? Same old randoms drunkenly piloting slow mechs to the center of the map? Be honest and serious, id genuinely like to how how PGI is doing and how the game is expanding or shrinking.

Status: Over-mature, Brown ocean small niche; declining population and stagnated development because of MW5.....which, may not meet anyone's expectations.......sigh.

My Summary:
General consensus, based on subjective evidence, is that MWO user pool is shrinking month over month. Group Queue wait times are excessive, same people seen over and over again in solo queue, OMG the STEAM CHARTS!!! etc used as evidence
The most recent patch did some -- interesting things to heat dissipation which was meant to limit/nerf the "evil" Clan Laser vomit but...actually seems to have had kinda the opposite effect. Funny enough though this might actually be bringing back some players because while it's pretty ridiculous it's at least a FUN kind of ridiculous which we haven't had for a while.
Heavies are still probably the best bet mech followed by Assaults and Mediums, lights are largely useless apart from a few outliers (which means there is a LOT of moaning about that outlier atm)
That's about all i know, I haven't been able to play much recently due to injury but from watching the (remaining) mwo streamers and reading the forms this is my understanding of how things are. so this is, at best, second hand knowledge.

Yeah that last patch seems to be occupying that special place where it's so bad it's good lol
But hey if it gets some people to come back and look that's fine by me.

hell you cant even say ***** err k n o b s. i didn't even know that was slang for something. must be a canadian thing. i always assumed they were those things you turn to open doors and make your stereo louder. you mentioned lines and that was enough for me to know what it was.
anyway pgi only needs to keep this game alive until they see a return on investment from mw5. then they can squander the profits on their next half assed conception.

Regarding queue, with FP events it got a bit harder to find QP match quick, which I'm personally happy about, since I'll be taking a break till Nov 15 or so, got a little burned out lately. But yeah, despite all issues, it's still good. Even latest update which brought faster heat dissipation and lowered TTK hard, I somehow came to enjoy it.

skilling up new mechs has kept me playing (I grind all my Mechs)but I ran out of mechs I would
want to buy
haven't even read the last two patch notes
FP is ok if you can get some drops in
I do some weapons testing in QP
every things seems about normal
and I was just thinking they should have hundreds of players joining the game weekly
snafu is the military term

Cibills economy is great though, no complaints there, and we do get to earn MC through events so we can buy MechBays when they're on discount

So aside from PGI's greed and laziness to do anything, the economy is great

Status of the game?
All LRMs and laser vomit.
And the fish of course.
Seriously, since the last patch that is about all I see being played, with a few MCII-bs every once in a while.

Still plenty of HGR/LBX10 Fafnirs and Annis around too, post patch. Fafnirs in particular seem pretty common.
One new one seen post patch too - the Triple HPPC Awesome. Seen more 8Qs in the last 2 weeks than I've probably seen in the previous 2 years. A lot of them even seem.... decent.
Sidenote question - Has anyone else noticed that the game has gotten noticeably more Assault oriented Post Patch? I used to see more heavies on the field than assaults, but post patch, that trend seems to have reversed. (Lights and mediums, as always, are relatively uncommon, except for the fish.)

Yeah, I couldn’t fit dual heavy gauss rifle builds along with the rest into my haiku though, but yeah, the dual HGR builds are certainly still present. I haven’t noticed any LBX builds. The 3HPPC builds only lasted for a few days, been absent in GQ since the last weekend in my games. So for the purposes of the OP’s question I’ll stick with my generality that the game is dominated at the moment by LRMs, Laser Vomit, the Piranha, and your addition of dual HGR.
As to your question, hell yes. Even in GQ smaller groups are all running mostly Assaults, and when they are large groups most seem to be doing the mostly Assaults and piranhas (with an occasional Commando).

Honestly though, each year, we get more powerful mechs and weapons that screw up balance. I think the game was more fun back in simpler times. Maybe it's just lost the freshness factor. I don't know. I'm honestly more of a single player person myself so we'll see how MW5 goes.
Many players have complained or left due to balance issues but those don't really bother me. I mix and match what I play so much that I'm not keyed into specific balance changes at all.
